2nd annual family ties angus bull & female sale

Family Ties Angus focuses their herd on good strong traits that will work in all cattle farms and help to improve the herd they will work for. Achieving this is done by tight guidelines on BW, WW, maternal instinct and making the feed put into the animals do the work. We cull our calves very hard at birth and again at weaning time, ensuring that only the bulls that will do the job remain on the farm. We pay close attention to hair coat, feet, testicular size and frame size on the animals we sell. If the bull wouldn’t work in our herd, we don’t want it in someone else’s. We have been

born and raised around cattle and started raising purebreds about 9yrs ago. We have slowly increased our herd to 80 purebred black cows, by careful selection of replacement heifers and some herd dispersal buys. We bought Gordon Braithwaite’s herd in December of 2011 and in May of 2013 we bought Gord Rattray’s herd of black cows. Th is has given us some great bloodlines and cows that have proven themselves to be great mothers and raise champion bulls.In 2013 Samantha and I decided that we would like to expand our cow herd and introduce a diff erent color Angus, while keeping all the same goals and beliefs we have raised the blacks on for the last 8 yrs. We spent countless hours walking Red Angus aft er Red Angus herd, hand picking a select group of females to start our Red Angus herd with. In the end we ended up purchasing 30 Red Pairs from well known breeders such as Yolo Acres Red Angus, Carnwood Red Angus and Road House Red Angus Holdings. Most of the calves at side were females and late April calves that you will see sell as 2yr old red bulls next year.We AI about 35 cows per year and have been raising and purchasing herdsires to make our herd better. In 2012 we bought the high seller at the Standard Hill sale; a $10,000 Tiger son. We also use an Sitz Upward son we purchased from Gord Rattray for $7000. Looking to expand our bull off ering to include more Networth 4200 bloodlines to the sale we rented GGRR Networth 1U from Garnier Ranching, Gus Garnier. While increasing our cow numbers and adding Red Angus to the Black Herd the decision to have our own sale became reality. Th at is why you will notice the name change from Family Aff air to just Family Ties Angus.We our very excited about the pen of bulls and heifers on off er this year. All the animals come from our purchased herdsires over the last 4yrs. We purchased Standard Hill Yahoo 40Y for $10,000 as the high selling bull at the 2012 Standard Hill sale. One look at his off spring and you can see the stamp he leaves on all his calves. Big, strong, well muscled calves who are long and all have the “Tiger Ears” as we call them. Yahoo comes from the great HF Tiger 5T, Hamilton Farms bull that is a common name to all black producers. Yahoo will catch your eye no matter what bull you put him beside. He is long, well muscled, with great hair coat, good feet and a head and shoulders that just yell calving ease. With a moderate BW, he is mainly a cow bull but his calves that have lighter BW could be used on larger heifers. Yahoo will add meat and muscle to your calves making for a bigger payday at weaning and sale time. Have a look at his off spring and add them to your herd.

In the spring of 2013 we sold some bred heifers to Sherry and Sheldon Th orson of Yellowhead County. Th ese heifers were bred to Family Ties herdsire GGRR 5Z Sitz Upwards. We asked them if we could buy the bulls back for our sale and what bulls we got back. All our Upwards sons our heifer bulls with calving ease in mind. Gary and Lois Etherington FarmsOn off er will be 10 commercial open heifers and 10 commercial bred heifers produced by Etherington Farms out of their Angus Beef Program. Gary started the program in 1999 and culls for birth weight, gain and ribeye area. You will not see better groups of open and bred heifers at any sale this year. Th e bred heif-ers will be bred back to EC easy calver and can start calving April 1, 2015. Th ese will be sold as 4 groups of 5 animals.
