P: 1) What does the cell theory state? Organisms and environments. The student knows that living systems at all levels of organization demonstrate the complementary nature of structure and function. The student is expected to:(D) differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles, including cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, and vacuole;(E) compare the functions of a cell to the functions of organisms such as waste removal; and(F) recognize that according to cell theory all organisms are composed of cells and cells carry on similar functions such as extracting energy from food to sustain life.
Cell theory states that cells are the basic unit of life, cells come from cells, and every living thing is made of one or more cells.
Schleiden first to recognize that plants were composed of cells. Schwann discovered that animals were made of cells as well. And Virchow proposed that cells came from pre-existing cells.

S-Monica and Louis are arguing about what takes more work, holding or lifting a box. • Monica held a box over her head using a force of 20 N for 10
minutes at a height of 2 meters. • Louis lifted a box with a force of 10 N and it took him 10 seconds
to get it to a height of 1.2 meters.
Which of the following statement do you agree with?A) Monica did the most work because she held the box above her head for a longer period of time.B)Monica did the most work because she used more force to keep the box up at a height of 2 meters. C)Louis did the most work because he is using force and motion in the same direction as he lifts the box.D) Monica and Louis did the same amount of work. EXPLAIN!

P – Answer the following questions:1. How do cells extract energy from food?2. How do cells remove waste?3. Which structures are common to all cells? Organisms and environments. The student knows that living systems at all levels of organization demonstrate the complementary nature of structure and function. The student is expected to:
(D) differentiate between structure and function in plant and animal cell organelles, including cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, chloroplast, and vacuole;
(F) recognize that according to cell theory all organisms are composed of cells and cells carry on similar functions such as extracting energy from food to sustain life
The mitochondria helps extract energy from food for cells.
Vacuoles store waste for removal and waste exits through the cell membrane
Structures common to all cells are the cell membrane, cytoplasm, and DNA.

A- Human Body Analogy
At each station compare the organ system to a cell organelle by completing the following analogy.
Write station number and complete analogy.
The (identify organelle) of a cell is like the (write organ system) because (identify the function).
Ex. The cell membrane of a cell is like the integumentary system because it acts like a barrier that controls what goes in an out of the cell.
Ex2. The mitochondria is like the respiratory system because it exchanges gasses through cellular respiration as it makes energy for the cell.

A: Pre-Lab Reading Questions“ The Ultra-Structure of Animal Cells”
*Answer the following questions as you begin the micro viewer lab*
1. For thousands of years, the only optical instrument used by men was the____________
2. Why did things like protozoa, bacteria & cells remain unknown until the 1600’s?
3. Microscopes depend on __________ __________ to bend rays of light.
4. Fine structure was discovered in______________.
5. Explain the difference between a light microscope & an electron microscope.
human eye
Objects were too small or microscopic to see until the use of microscopes by Leeuwenhoek, Hooke, and Grew in the 1600s.
glass lenses
protoplasm when light microscopes achieved magnifications of 1000 or perhaps 2000 with special lighting.
Electron microscopes use electrons instead of light rays and electromagnetic fields instead of glass lenses and provided higher magnifications.
