Thank You so much for your overwhelming

generosity donating personal hygiene products for patients in need at St. Mary’s General Hospital and the Sexual Assault Centre and Domestic Violence Centre. These items may seem ordinary but they have made a huge and immediate impact on patient care. Some of our staff were moved to tears to see the stocked cart of supplies we brought to units, allowing them to support their patients’ healing in this way. So overwhelming was your response, we ran out of storage space! So we have paused the campaign temporarily but look forward to reaching out again to you in the coming months. We feel humbled, honoured and grateful for your response and for this life-giving collaboration between our hospital and its kind neighbours.

oneROOF HOST HOMES oneROOF Youth Services is committed to providing for the safety, support and overall well-being of youth who are experiencing homelessness, and youth who are at-risk of homelessness inWaterloo Region. One of the ways they do this is through Host Homes, a prevention and diversion program, where people in the community welcome youth aged 16-25 who are at risk of homelessness into their own homes for a temporary stay. oneROOF is currently looking for more Host Homes and reached out to the invite the St. Francis community to learn more about the program. You can read a brochure and FAQs on our website by clicking here, or contact the parish office and we will connect you with oneROOF for more information. Thank you for prayerfully considering this vocation.

SYNOD OF BISHOPS 2023 Pope Francis recently announced that the next Synod of Bishops will take place in October 2023. The Theme of the Synod is: For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission. For the first time, the meeting will be the culmination of a “three-year path” involving all of the People of God at every level of the Church. This “path” is a process which Pope Francis inaugurated this past weekend, and is meant to be a manifestation of “synodality” which is a form that realizes the participation of all the people of God in mission.

You can watch the full inauguration Mass with English translation by clicking here.

The synodal path will take place in three phases. 1. First Phase (October 2021 to April 2022)

A consultation with all the People of God in each Diocese and begins this weekend, on October 17th.

2. Second Phase (September 2022 to March 2023) The “continental” phase where Diocesan responses are collated across each continent. For example, Canada and the United States of America will collate their responses and submit them to the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops in Rome by March 2023.

3. The Final Phase of the Synod will take place in October 2023 with the celebration of the Assembly of Bishops in Rome.

In the Diocese of Hamilton, a Committee has been established to guide the Diocesan Phase of the Synodal Process. From November to mid-December parishioners in the Diocese of Hamilton will have an opportunity to respond to the questions posed by the Synod, more information on this to come. We pray for the success of this unique and historic synodal process:

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in your name. With you alone to guide us, make yourself at home in our hearts;

Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it. We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.

Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in you our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life

and not stray from the way of the truth and what is right. All this we ask of you, who are at work in every place and time,

in the communion of the Father and the Son, for ever and ever. Amen.
