Christ the King November 24, 2019 Christ’s Kingship and His Kingdom

Dear brothers and sisters, With the celebration of Christ, the King, we come to the end of theLiturgical year; and are reminded that we are citizens of Christ’s kingdom. However, millions in the world neither want to accept His kingship nor want to be included in His kingdom. Whether they

accept it or not, Christ is the King! The people of Israel wanted a king like every other nations. [1 Sam 8:20] The reasons for wanting a king were to fight their battles for them, protect them and give them a symbol of national unity. This request betrayed their rejection of the kingship of Yahweh [1 Sam. 8:7; 19:19; 12:12] and denial of the covenant. The prophets warned them about what it would be like to have a king like the nations. [1 Sam 8:11-18] The angel Gabriel proclaims, "Behold, …the Lord God will give him the throne of David, his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” [Lk. 1:32-33] The Magi asked, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews?" [Mt. 2:2] In John 18, Pilate refers to the implication that the Christ is a royal title by inquiring explicitly if Jesus claims to be the "king of the Jews." Pilate was convinced that Jesus was the King and declared: “Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews.” Christ is King and sovereign Head over His Church. [Eph.1:22; 4:15; Col. 1:18; 2:19] His rule extends to every creature, for "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” [Mt. 28:18] Its establishment among men is progressive, but it is destined at last to fill the whole earth. As we acknowledge that Christ is the King of the Universe, let us accept His great commissioning – by our teaching, baptizing, and bringing them to Jesus. Let us acknowledge Christ as the King of our hearts and homes. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving! My prayers and blessings! Msgr. Xavier

PRO-LIFE: FETAL DEVELOPMENT, MONTH 8

In the last two months the baby continues to gain weight. She is developing a layer of fat that will keep her warm after she is born. In the 9th month she will shift to a head-down position, preparing for birth. Her lungs are now fully developed and capable of making the transition to breathing air. After birth she will continue the human growth process for many years to come. Just as an expectant mother makes final preparations for the birth of her baby we make preparations for Christmas during the four weeks of Advent.

NO Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament On Wednesday this week.

Adoration will resume next week on Wednesday and First Friday.

Why do we pray for the dead?

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, the clearest Bible reference about prayers for the dead is from the Second Book of Maccabees. When soldiers were preparing the bodies of their slain comrades for burial

they discovered they were wearing amulets taken from a pagan temple which violated the law of Deuteronomy, so they prayed that God would forgive the sin these men had committed. The New Testament echoes this notion in the second letter of Timothy when Paul prays for someone who died named Onesiphorus, saying: “May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church also has something to say about prayers for the dead, stating: “All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven” (1030).
