For just about everyone else,it was a matter of surviving.

Marc Leishman made it tothe round of 16 by playing two holes on Friday. He was awarded a victory because Jason Day withdrew on Wednesday, got a reprieve when Lee Westwood beat PatPerez to force a threeman playoff, and beat Westwood on the second hole. — AP

BOSTON — Devin Bookerscored 70 points for the Suns, becoming the sixth different player in NBA history to reach that total, but the Celtics got 34 points from Isaiah Thomas and outlasted Phoenix 130120 on Friday night.
Booker joined Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, David Robinson and Elgin Baylor as the NBA’s 70point scorers. Baylor also held the previous record against the Celtics with 64 points in Minneapolis for the Lakers on Nov. 8, 1959.
“This doesn’t happen veryoften especially against a really good defensive team likethe Boston Celtics,” Booker said. “It’s a zone. It’s kind of hard to explain. I’ve been in those zones before, but neverto this extent.”
Just 20 years old, Bookerscored 51 after halftime. The win was Boston’s third straight, and avenged its buzzerbeater loss in Phoenix earlier this month. — AP

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Friday night’sSweet 16 loss didn’t end the Steve Alford era at UCLA and it didn’t start one at Indiana.
At least, that’s what the UCLAcoach said after his thirdseeded Bruins fell to No. 2 Kentucky, 8675, at FedExForum.
“I said it last week, and I’ll reiterate it again even more so that I love Los Angeles. To begin with, it’s a beautiful place, and our family has fallen in love with it,” Alford said. “I’m very happy. I’m at UCLA. I don’t know of a lot of people that areout there wanting to leave UCLA.”
Rumors have run rampant that Alford, who led Indiana as a player to the 1987 national title, would replacefired Hoosiers coach Tom Crean. FOX Sports analyst Doug Gottlieb said it was a “done deal,” and severalother notable outlets have reported the possibility Alford would go backto Bloomington, Ind. But that doesn’t appear to be the case.
“I am absolutely 100 percent notgoing to Indiana. Staying at UCLA. I
am happy. Love it here,” Alford, an Indiana native, later told ESPN. “Have a great class coming in, and [a] brandnew practice facility. Obviously, I love my alma mater. Committed to UCLA. I am not going to talk to Indiana. I am staying a Bruin.”
While Lonzo Ball is headed to theNBA, announcing his UCLA career was over after the loss, the Bruins will welcome the secondranked recruiting class in the country next year, according to Scout.com, led byfivestar prospects Jaylen Hands and Kris Wilkes. They also are opening a new stateoftheart basketball practice facility, called the The Mo Ostin Basketball Center, and are coming off their most wins — 31 — in a season since 200708.
“I’m very, very happy where I’mat, and hopefully that’ll continue,” Alford said.
