How can I as your parent help you with things you are good at? 7. How can I as your parent help you with things you may not be good at? It is better to ask these specific questions rather than just ask your child "what goals have you got?" Some of your children may discuss with you about areas other than Math’s, Reading and Writing and may wish to discuss with you areas of the curriculum which include managing themselves, and getting on better with others in the school. Reporting to Parents

The way we report to you, our parents and whanau will change slightly from this year onwards.

This change in reporting is dictated by the Ministry of

Education, and is dependent on when your child first started their schooling life. We are required to report on your child progress towards the National Standards,

and also their achievement agains the National Standards at

the end of a given years education. The graphs below

explain when to expect to receive a written formal report

from your childs teachers. Please note: if you have more

than one child at our school, they many not all receive a report at

the same time in the year...

MANUREWA EAST SCHOOL

It was really pleasing to see how many parents and whanau took the opportunity to observe the classrooms in action last Tuesday on our Open Day. It was great to see parents having a shared lunch under the trees and on the decks with their children.

This Term we have had our Meet the Teacher informal evening on 24th of February and then the Open Day.

We look forward to seeing you for the Three Way Conferences where students, teachers and parents set learning goals for the year. From now until then it would be great to discuss with your child/ren questions such as;

1. How do you think you are doing at school? 2. What are the things you are good at and like doing? 3. What are things that you may not be good at and need help with? 4. How can your teacher help you with things you are good at? 5. How can your teacher help you with things you need help with? 6. How can I as your parent help you with things you are good at? 7. How can I as your parent help you with things you may not be

good at?

It is better to ask these specific questions rather than just ask your child "what goals have you got?" Some of your children may discuss with you about areas other than Math’s, Reading and Writing and may wish to discuss with you areas of the curriculum which include managing themselves, and getting on better with others in the school. By having these discussions with your child before arriving at the Three Way Conferences, everyone attending will have a better idea on actual learning goals that are based on what your child really needs as a focus for their learning.

“By the time students leave us in Year 6 we want them to be confident, inquisitive, articulate problem solvers, who can use a varity of communication tools to make sense of their world”

Upcoming dates:

• Thursday 2 April 3pm – Term One Ends • Friday 3 April – Good Friday • Monday 20th April 9am – Term Two Begins • Monday 27th April – ANZAC Day

MARKET DAY!!

This  Friday,  March  27th,  Manurewa  East  School  will  have  their  first  Market  Day.    At  lunchGme,  Team  1  will  have  stalls  that  have  been  created  as  part  of  their  unit  on  Financial  Literacy.    If  you  would  like  to,  please  send  your  child  to  school  on  Friday  with  some  money  (maybe  $1  -‐  $5)  so  that  they  can  buy  some  food  or  play  some  games.    Thank  you  for  your  support!!

The Book of Everything

On  Wednesday  March  18th,  the  Year  6  students  went  to  watch  the  play:  The  Book  of  Everything.    This  was  only  made  possible  by  the  generosity  of  St  Cuthbert’s.    They  kindly  paid  for  our  59  children  to  experience  a  very  emoGonal  play.    Thank  you  to  St  Cuthbert’s  for  allowing  the  Year  6  students  to  a\end  a  once  in  a  lifeGme  event.

I  loved  it  because  it  was  a  beauGful,  lovely  story  that  was  also  scary  and  terrible  at  the  same  Gme.  It  was  amazing  that  I  could  feel  sad  and  happy  in  my  heart  at  the  same  Gme.  -‐  Dylan,  A3

My  favourite  bit  was  when  we  threw  the  frogs  on  the  stage.  My  favourite  character  was  the  daughter  because  she  ended  up  being  kind  to  the  brother.  I  really  loved  the  play,  it  was  oh  so  amazing!  I  also  loved  how  the  characters  were  so  confident.  -‐  IG,  E1
