24TH MARCH 2019 THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT YR C Ministries of the Parish in the hands of the parishioners. In these days of Lent we, through Project Compassion, contribute to the ministry and work of Caritas Australia. The ministry and administrative activities of Caritas Australia wouldn’t be possible without money which ordinary Parishioners donate generously during Lent and on a regular basis through the year. Every ministry whether it is Caritas Australia, St Vincent de Paul, Parish, etc.… rely on the generosity and goodwill of people who financially support these ministries. Southport Catholic Parish is a living community, which nurtures and nourishes the faith of its people and visitors who come to our three Churches. Through various facilities, association and groups, our Parish has ministered and continues to serve many generations of Catholics residing in and visiting the Gold Coast region today. This mission of nurturing and sharing faith cannot be done without parishioners who so willingly participate in many ministries of our parish life. Today, I thank these Parishioners for their dedication and commitment in the last 12 months. Each ministry, even the one that happens behind the scenes, (eg. washing and ironing the altar linen) contributes to the growth of our Parish. Only a growing community can share and nurture the faith with others. Another factor that cannot be ignored in this context is the financial support that Southport Parish received from parishioners and visitors in 2018. Today I thank you for your generosity in upholding the parish pastoral work through your financial support. Without your money, it would be very challenging to take care of the ministries which exist in our Parish. Today I’d like to say thank you to the members of this Committee who are always willing to share with me their wis- dom and expertise. Thanks again for your generosity in helping our Parish to grow and serve God’s people, who every Sunday come, from different cultures and backgrounds to the same Table to be nourished with the Eucharist of our Lord. 24TH MARCH 2019

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT YR C

Ministries of the Parish in the hands of the parishioners.

Towards the end of March, we will be distributing the new sets of envelopes for parishioners who contribute through the Planned Giving Program. The 24-hour Adoration on 15th - 16th

March was a time of grace in our parish. Around two hundred and fifty people became part of this adoration at different times including visitors from other parishes. The entire parish was represented by our priests, parish staff, pastoral council, Eucharistic ministers, altar servers, musicians, youth, volunteers, students and staff from Aquinas college and Guardian Angels school. Special thanks to Terry Naug, Chris Underwood, Maria Blancia, Daloras Howes, Dannie

Ashman, Karen and Vince O'Brien for their generous leadership. We also thank Bruce

Vesey-Brown, Jackie McDonald, Audrey Chung,

Veniré and the Hive youth groups who organised the beautiful music. We are grateful to Gler Ramos, Pat, Teresa, Christina and others who supplied and served refreshments. We express our gratitude to Fr. Isidore

Enyinnaya, who gave an inspiring spiritual talk. The constant guidance and support of Fr. Jan, Fr. Huong, Fr Vince and Leeanne (the parish manager) made this Adoration more fruitful. May the Eucharistic Lord bless each one who became part of this spiritual outpouring by

their prayer and presence. Big Thank you everyone. Fr. Thomas

Easter ceremonies of the Holy Triduum. Choir practice

every Monday at Mary Immaculate Church, Ashmore 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Singing and music are an essential part of the Holy Week liturgy, although our Parish is blessed with so many dedicated musicians and singers, we need more parishioners to join this choir practice and make Easter Ceremonies a beautiful worship through singing and music.

St Joseph the Worker Church are in need of

Communion Ministers for 7am Mass every Sunday. Full training will be provided. For more information please contact Sheilah O’Neill on 5591 2639.

Liturgy of the Word for Next Sunday Year C 1st Reading – Joshua 5:9-12, 2nd Reading – 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, Gospel - Luke 15:1-3, 11-32

Please take home a Project Compassion box and/or a set of donation envelopes and support Caritas Australia this Lenten season themed “Give Lent 100%”. This year’s Project Compassion showcases the many ways we work around the world with our local partners to offer hope to people most vulnerable to extreme poverty and injustice. As

Pope Francis said, “The future does have a name… and its name is hope.” Through your generosity during Project compassion this year, you are empowering communities with hope and helping those in great need to shape a better future for themselves, their families and their

communities. Lives change when we all give 100%. You can donate through Parish boxes and envelopes, or by visiting www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion or call 1800 024 413.

Christchurch Mosque Terror Attack please pray for all the victims’ families during this incredibly difficult time over the loss of all their loved ones during the Christchurch Mosque terror attack. “With this terrorist attacks at Christchurch, we are

once again reminded of the intertwined and deadly nature

of prejudice and extremism, how it seeks to destroy and sow enmity among peace-loving people and communities,” Bp. Efraim Tendero, “As followers of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, we condemn such violence and state in the clear-est terms that there is no justification whatsoever to com-mit such an evil crime against people of any faith or no faith,” Cardinal Tagle. In a world marked by violence and conflict in the clutches of sin, Jesus presents himself always as the Prince of Peace. He came not just to talk about peace; HE IS PEACE. He came to make peace through his cross. Jesus gives us inner peace through the Paschal mystery which we are going to celebrate in the coming days on the Holy Week. Is your heart filled with peace of the Prince of Peace?

PROCESSIONAL HYMN

Return to God Refrain: Return to God with all your heart, the source of grace and mercy. Come, seek the tender faithfulness of

God. Now the time of grace has come, the day of salvation. Come and learn now the way of our God. R

GIFTS PROCESSION

From Ashes to the Living Font From ashes to the living font your Church must journey, Lord, baptised in grace, in grace renewed by your most holy word. Through fasting, prayer, and charity

your voice speaks deep within, returning us to ways of truth and turning us from sin.

For thirsting hearts let waters flow our fainting souls revive, and at the well your waters give our everlasting life. © 1994 AJ Hommerding World Liberty Publications

MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION(ICEL)

When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again.

COMMUNION PROCESSION

A Touching Place Christ’s is the world in which we move. Christ’s are the folk we’re summoned to love, Christ’s is the voice

which calls us to care, and Christ is the one who meets us here.

Refrain:

To the lost Christ shows his face, to the unloved He gives his embrace. To those who cry in pain or disgrace, Christ makes, with his friends, a touching place.

Feel for the people we most avoid, strange or bereaved or never employed. Feel for the women, and feel for the men who fear that their living is all in vain. R. Feel for the parents who’ve lost their child, feel for the women whom men have defiled. Feel for the baby

for whom there’s no breast, and feel for the weary who find no rest. R.

Feel for the lives by life confused, riddled with doubt, in loving abused. Feel for the lonely heart,

conscious of sin, which longs to be pure but fears to begin. R. Copyright © 1949 I Bell WGRG Willow

REFLECTION HYMN

I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto me and rest; lay down, O weary one, lay down your head upon my breast.” I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn, and sad. I found in Him a resting place, and He has made me glad. I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Behold, I freely give the living water; thirsty one,

stoop down, and drink and live.” I came to Jesus and I drank of that life giving stream. My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in Him. I heard the voice of Jesus say, “I am this dark world’s light; look unto me, your morn shall rise, and all your day be bright.” I looked to Jesus, and I found in Him my star, my sun, and in that light of life I’ll walk till trav’lling days are done.
