Ensemble Pro Victoria offer an open workshop on singing Renaissance polyphony. Some singing experience is recommended.
Talk by Amélie Addison on the music of 18th-century Tyneside-born composer William Shield, in particular his use of traditional folk tunes.
The earliest violin sonatas and the spread of the style northwards across the Alps, including works by Uccellini, Pandolfi , Schmelzer, Kapsberger, Erlebach, and Buxtehude.

Trombonist and leading exponent on improvised counterpoint, Catherine Motuz will demonstrate how to create convincing polyphony using a repertory of tried-and-tested techniques from the Renaissance. This demonstration of contrapunto alla mente follows on from Catherine’s talk the previous evening.
