The Elizabeth line – your new east-west railway We’re building a new rail line for London and the South East. It will reduce crowding on trains, the underground, and buses; give you more choice and make it easier to get you where you want to go. The project is constructing 10 new stations, improving 30 more, creating 21 kilometres of twin-bore tunnels under London and delivering major improvements to the existing rail network. New stations, new trains, new route The new service will open in phases. May 2017 – new trains will enter the TfL Rail service between Liverpool Street and Shenfield. May 2018 – TfL Rail service opens between Paddington and Heathrow Dec 2018 – the Elizabeth line opens. Services will run between Paddington and Abbey Wood, Liverpool Street and Shenfield; and Paddington and Heathrow. May 2019 – Elizabeth line services run from Paddington to Shenfield, Abbey Wood and Heathrow. Dec 2019 – The Elizabeth line is fully open, with services running across the whole route. Better connections The new route will improve connections to key destinations including the West End, Heathrow, the City and Canary Wharf. It will bring an extra 1.5 million people within 45 minutes of central London and reduce many journey times across London and the South East. More accessible All stations will be step-free from street to platform level. All new stations will have marked routes, clear signage and information to help passengers find their way.
