Year 9 Fundraising Updates – Street Child
The fundraising endeavours of
O’Byrne Year for Street Child has
raised just short of £1,700.
Pupils have every right to be proud of their efforts and we as a school are delighted by the effort and
commitment made by so many to raise this amount of money.
Because the revenue is
UK Government Fund Matched this
equates to £3,400 of funds available to street Child.
The difference this work will make to the lives of young people in
Sierra Leone is immense.
Our efforts alone can send over 100 children to school for a year or go a long way to making a school
self-sustaining. (we were just £400 short of achieving this!)
Miss A Carter , tutor to 902, coordinated the food bank collections for the year and a huge contribution was made by the year 9 pupils.
We would like to thank Miss Carter for the idea and for being so proactive in
supporting the collection and delivery of food.
We have decided to continue to fund raise and are going to focus on a local charity that supports our own community for the next half year. More information will follow and again as a year team we thank you for your generosity and ongoing support.
Having discussed this with a
number of pupils they have said that thinking about other people and trying to help has made them appreciate what they have a little more – which feels like a very
positive response.

Guided Choices
The official deadline of 19th February has now passed and many thanks to those of you who have completed the forms on line. We are aware that there have a been a few issues where pupils have either lost their letters or been
unable to log on – tutors will be
allowing pupils to access the system during tutor time this week and
amendments can now be made until Friday.
Tutors have a copy of options selected by pupils and have been asked to
identify where there may be issues with those choices initially made. The Guided Choices team will also be flagging issues of concern.
Once the system closes a copy of the choices made will be sent to you for you to sign and agree.
The options will not be confirmed until you, the parent/carer, has done this. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to call or email us [email protected]. sch.uk
Attendance and Punctuality
The attendance team and year team continues to
monitor punctuality and attendance.
We are continuing to do detentions on a weekly basis for attendance. These are issued by Mrs Forfar, but she can only issue these based on the registers. We are finding that this is effective in improving punctuality. If there are extenuating circumstances for lateness can you please email the Year office to let us know.
Youth Speaks – A message from Mr G Tapp and Miss S Dewey
Congratulations to ALL the Youth Speaks teams yesterday! Members delivered their speeches with confidence, eloquence and rhetoric –-- and as the judges said, it was a re-ally difficult decision. Well done Joe Wallace, Aaron Middleton, Christopher Wright, Sinead Neville, Josie Lee-Ralph and April Leckey on providing some tough competition.
Special congratulations to Keira Buckland, Elena Tapp, Laura Tapp, on making it through to the next round!
Individual Achievement
Kiera Venables – Girl Guiding. Kiera has been invited to become the first
Junior hostess at Foxlease Guiding Centre in the New Forest. This is a great honour and the manager, Phil Jarmyn commented that having had “very positive feedback from my management team and seeing for myself your willingness to get involved and help around the estate, I am convinced you will be an asset to Foxlease”.
Well done Kiera!

TRAVELLING TO AND FROM SCHOOL IMPORTANT NOTICE
We ask for your support in speaking to your son/daughter about their journey to and from school. Several concerns have been raised by road-users, neighbours and passers-by about some extremely unsafe behaviour, both on Gomer Lane and other neighbouring roads. These have included cycling with helmets ‘dangling’ from handle-bars rather than being worn. Cyclists riding several abreast and risking facing oncoming traffic. Walking out in front of traffic causing drivers to break heavily. In response to this, and in an attempt to do what we can to ensure the safety of our pupils and students, senior members of staff have been offering support and guidance. Thank you for you for support
