Worshiping Spring is in the air and Orange Pylons are in full bloom. They are popping up all over the East Valley. The symmetry of their growth gives the impression that someone carefully placed each one in its proper place – amazing! There are several varieties, but my favorite is the famed Orange – Black Strip – Flashing Red Light barricade!
I have noticed that they seem to grow on the roads that I travel the most. Which is nice since I get to see them every day, but I need to be very mindful that I don’t run over one of these beauties. I don’t know for sure, but my guess is they are a protected species, since the DOT seems very hesitant to remove them. Often times I see a patrol car positioned next to them, evidently to make sure no one causes harm to nary a one of them.
No doubt you also have seen the Orange Pylons of every variety that the DOT uses to reroute traffic. Road construction and repair seems to be happening on every road in the East Valley. If you are like me all of the road construction can get, well, rather annoying. I just want to get from point “a” to point “b” and not have to go through a slalom course of blinking red lights. Don’t get me wrong, I will like all of the improvements once the work is completed. I just don’t like having to deal with all of the detours, lane shifting, etc. that happens in the process.
The same could be said of life. There are times when we get rerouted. We had life planned out: a successful career, wonderful family, and finally a relaxing retirement. Then the barricades go up and life goes in a different direction; everything from your career tanking, children going rogue, or the retirement savings dwindling. Life never, and I mean never, turns out like we think.
What I have noticed is that some of what I would call the worst moments of my life have actually been a turning point for some of the best things in my life to happen. Not always – some events are just bad. Some are even horrible. Through it all I have tried to rely on the promises of God. Promises that say that even during rough parts where I have been “rerouted or taken on a detour,” that God has my best interest in mind and that He will bring good out of the bad.
“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.” (Romans 5:3 NLT)
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28 NLT)
Going through the construction is never enjoyable, but once completed, it sure is nice.
In Christ,

Men’s Early Bird Saturday Gathering
The Men’s Early Bird Saturday Gatherings continue Saturday, May 9th and 23rd in the Pathway Center. A Men’s Retreat was held on April 18-19 at the Redemptorist Renewal Center in Tucson, AZ. Twenty-one members of our Men’s Group attended as did Pastor Ron and Joel.
The theme of the retreat was “Declaring the Glory of God”, Meditations on Psalm 19. The Retreat Center offered fabulous scenery in the desert overlooking Tucson. The men arrived
Saturday morning and had some time to enjoy the property. Barry Ritchie, a member of Risen Savior led the discussion on “How God Reveals Himself Through His Creation”, vs. 1-7. As a professor at ASU with a PHD in Physics he talked about the marvels of creation that only God could have achieved. Seth Giles, a graduate of Luther College and co-leader of the Men’s Group spoke on “How God Reveals Himself Through His Word and Convicts Our Hearts”, vs. 8-12. The day ended with an outdoor service at sunset with Joel and Pastor Ron presiding. Pastor Ron’s message was on "How God Transforms Our Hearts”, vs. 13-14. Communion and song accompanied the service. It was truly an inspirational setting and service.
Fellowship followed with discussion, movie options, snacks, popcorn, and drinks.
Sunday morning included breakfast and an outdoor service with Joel Endicott, our Director of Worship and Music doing a fabulous job leading us in song and worship. Departures were at 10:30.
Many thanks to those who attended and participated. A special thanks to Jack Freund who captured the essence of the meeting in photos and a video that we will be making accessible through our website for those who are interested.
Sunday Night Youth Ministry Youth Ministry will continue to meet at 6:00p.m. every Sunday evening. For questions, email Laurel Miller at [email protected].

Author Lysa TerKeurst is learning that there is a big difference between saying yes to everyone and saying yes to God. In “The Best Yes” she will help you:
Cure the disease to please with a biblical understanding of the command to love. Escape the guilt of disappointing others by learning the secret of the small no. Overcome the agony of hard choices by embracing a wisdom based decision-making process. Rise above the rush of endless demands and discover your best yes today.
Books are available through our ministry before the study or the day of the teaching.
Bible Study: Thursday, May 21st, 8:45a.m. – 11:15a.m. at The Pathway Center Joan C. Webb, Author of 13 Christian books, will walk us thru the Bible's dichotomy of Love.

Missions
Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) On Saturday, April 11th, approximately 120 ladies enjoyed the Spring Luncheon event "Wedding Treasures" held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church hosted by the LWML members. The tables were beautifully decorated and eighteen wedding gowns, many worn by RSLC members on their wedding day, were displayed and interesting stories relating to the weddings were shared. Thanks to Jack Freund for putting together an array of wedding pictures of RSLC members that were shown on the screen during the event.
Marine Descamps, an exchange student from France, hosted by the Kolanowski family, performed flute solos

Risen Savior Monthly Financial Review Risen Savior Monthly Financial Review
You may notice that the following looks a little different than what is typically published in the newsletter. There are a few reasons for the change.
1. We have had requests from congregants to publish summary level information with
more narrative about the operations. The information below is our first pass at
developing that format.
2. The Risen Savior newsletter is available on the rslcs.org website and we would like to
limit the quantity and type of information made available to the general public.
The following detailed reports are available to members and attendees of Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Please contact Susan Mello, our Business Manager, to receive this information. Susan’s email is: [email protected]
