Lydenburg residents are asked to be aware that there are people/ suspects in town who are pretending to be police officers. The suspects are using false Police Appointment Certificates and are approaching and interrogating people as if they are conducting investigations. They approach people in town, explaining to whomever they approach that the victim is wearing clothes that are similar to the person the 'police' are looking for. The suspects are two African males and one African female. Sometimes they are around the bank and when you withdraw money they rob you at gunpoint. If you suspect any person in town, please contact the police and if you are under pressure from strangers, shout so that other people may hear you. If

someone approaches you, claiming to be a police officer, shout to attract other people’s attention, or contact the local police station on 013 235 1311 or 013 235 2222/3 or 10111.There are also syndicates of people who rob Foreign Nationals, telling them that there is a toll gate on the Ohrigstad Road or Sabie Road. A number of power outages in Viljoen streets and surrounds last week led to swift reaction from Thaba Chweu electricians.Summer is a difficult time for them due to lightning strikes, severe wind storms, falling tree branches and electrical shorts due to moisture. Following a thunderstorm a number of cables shorted out at the Jansen street transformer and the electricians responded by quickly attending to the problem, even with their limited recources. EK kry van die mense wat by die Poskantoor werk, jammer. Almal is nie sleg nie. Die instansie word egter lamgelê deur stakers wat geen idee het van die gevolge van hulle optrede nie. Tot ’n mate is dit die gevolg van lamsakkige bestuur. Dit is duidelik dat die bestuur in elk geval onbevoeg is. Hulle personeelbestuur beleid is maar een aspek wat te kort skiet. Maar soos die res van alle semi staatsinstellings is bestuur

net daar om kaders se tjeks te teken en hulle eie bonusse toe te ken. Die organisasie word soos ander deur ’n skreeuende massa onder die vaandel van ’n unie, bestuur. Unies bestuur die land en die regte bestuur moet stilsit en “shut up”Baie besighede en mense maak staat op die poskantoor om ’n lewe te maak. Nou wag almal vir pakkies, tjeks en so aan en op plekke word dit in die strate gestrooi. Dit is weg. Die Poskantoor het duidelik nie ’n volhoubare besigheidsmodel nie. Mense is oral oor besig om alternatiewe planne te maak en sal nie weer met die poskantoor sake doen nie. Hulle bestuur se reaksie sal wees om tariewe op te skuif (soos Eskom) en dit sal nog meer kliënte

verdryf. So sink gaan hy sink. Dit is baie makliker om onafhanklik van die poskantoor te raak, as van Eskom, maar mense se onwilligheid om kragrekeninge te betaal en toenemende onwettige koppelings en weerstandigheid, is die gevolg van onbekostigbare tariewe. Mense is gatvol betaal. Eskom se besigheidsmodel is so onvolhoubaar soos die poskantoor s’n en dit is net ’n kwessie van tyd. Kyk wat maak publieke weerstand met die e-tol stelsel. Op die ou einde word ons net meer belas, soos die ANC regering poog om SAL en al hierdie instansies van ondergang te red. Soos besighede toemaak, gaan die taks fonteintjie ook opdroog. Skuif maar intussen jou posbesigheid na elektroniese metodes, gebruik Postnet of ’n koerier. Koebaai poskantoor, koebaai!

Verpleegpersoneel dra pilletjies en water aan vir inwoners en stop kort-kort om 'n paar woorde met een van die bejaardes te wissel. Op die terrein, in die kantore – oral is mense besig om hul dagtake te verrig. Uit die sitkamer kom die rustige stem van dominee en daarna die samesang van die inwoners. Hier tussen die Rusoord-familie word ek stuk-stuk heel.Ek daag inwoners van Lydenburg om betrokke te raak by hierdie mense – jy sal veel meer ontvang as wat jy ooit kan gee.

NA aanleiding van my beroep op mense om nie motorbande op die ashoop te gooi nie, as gevolg van die brand daarvan wat die dorp vergiftig, het ons goeie reaksie gekry. Die Lydenburgers was almal in die Upington tronk en is vrygelaat na die teregstelling van Jopie Fourie. Ons beplan ’n volledige berig oor die1914 Rebellie, veral die Lydenburg groep, wat eersdaags in die koerant gaan wees, moet nie die ou foto’s misloop nie. Die Highlands Panorama Nuus het ook ’n krans gelê ter herdenking van die 1914 Rebellie, 2014 is die Eeufeesjaar. Die pioniers van Lydenburg wat vereer is Vrydag was: ds. J. H. Neethling (NG Predikant tydens die 2de Vryheidsoorlog), dr. C. As a result, Ford also posted a record market share of 13.4% this year. Hot on the heels of Suzuki’s Ertiga, Honda has launched its Brio-based Mobilio in South Africa.It is powered by Honda’s 88kW/145Nm 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine (lifted from Jazz and Ballade) and it rides on the Brio’s platform (although it will be available from launch with a more serviceable black interior). The front wheels are driven via a five-speed manual transmission.Mobilio is certainly no spiritual or other successor to the FR-V that was hugely popular amongst

local families. For one, the FR-V’s two rows of three seats were considered slightly too unconventional for global markets and have made way for a more acceptable seven-seat configuration, spread over three rows. There’s stadium seating, so those seated on the rear bench can see the road over the other occupants’ heads, and seats can be reconfigured in all rows with a single touch. The second row bench slides forwards and back, splits 60/40, and has

reclinable backrests. The rearmost twin bench splits 50/50.Two specification grades are available: the entry-level Trend and family-oriented Comfort. Trend is equipped with features such as central locking, electric windows and tilt-adjustable

steering wheel.Comfort adds plusher items such as chrome finishes for certain cabin details, an integrated audio system with steering wheel controls and compatible with USBs, MP3s and the like, aircon with separate vents for the rear passengers, remote central locking, electric wing mirrors and a rear screen wiper, amongst other things.All models come with colour-coded body trim and an integrated rear spoiler. VIER Lydenburgers en ’n vriend van Potchefstroom, het onlangs met hulle avontuurmotorfietse al die pad om Lesotho gery.Anton en Maruel Linström, (Kawasaki KLR 650 (685 kit) en BMW GS 650), JP Cilliers, (BMW GS 650), Paul Van Vuuren (Yamaha XT 600 Tenere) en Deon Schmidt (BMW GS 1200 Adventure), het vanaf 4 tot 10 Oktober via Belfast, Bethal, Bethlehem, Clarens, Fouriesburg, Wepener, Lady Grey, Barkley East, Rhodes, Himeville, Winterton, Newcastle, Volksrust en terug na Lydenburg, in sewe dae, getoer. Die toer het hulle antikloksgewys al teen die grens van Lesotho om gevat.Die fietse was baie swaar gelaai met elke ding van ’n ketel, en tent tot ’n visstok. Vanaf Wepener het die avonturiers al die grondpaaie teen die grens gery en plekke soos Joubertspas, Pitsing, Naudesnek en ander bergpasse aangedurf. Naudesnek is hoër as die Longtompas. THE Datsun GO, the first offering bearing the redesigned and modernised Datsun brand to take to Africa's roads since the early 1980's, not only marks the return of one of South Africa's favourite brand to the country, but also the manufacturer's entry into the hotly-contested entry level segment of the market.

At an entry price of just R89 500 for the Mid Model and R99 500 for the Lux Model the Datsun GO will therefore be a natural choice for younger, first time buyers or people looking for a vehicle that could be used as a comfortable, stylish and fuel efficient 'urban runabout. Dealerships across the country are gearing up to open their doors and start

thselling on the 20 of October 2014.

The Datsun GO will be available through 44 dealerships across the country, with the aim of increasing this to 60 by the end of the fiscal in March 2015. The cars will be imported as completely assembled units from India.

"The five- speed manual Datsun GO- weighs in at 1 152 kgs. It is powered by a DOHC 12-valve, three cylinder, fuel injected petrol engine with a displacement of 1 198cc. Maximum power of 50kW is delivered at 5 000 rpm, Torque is a respectable 104 Nm produced at 4 000 rpm, "Fuel economy is 5.2 litres per 100 km in a combined urban and rural cycle. "Stopping power is delivered through a disc/drum combination, with ventilated disc brakes providing braking upfront and drum brakes at the rear. The suspension comprises Macpherson struts with double pivot lower arm and torsion beam at the rear. The vehicle is shod with 155/70R13 tyres.

One of the advantages of the car's height is that it has a commanding driving position.

In keeping with the Datsun design ethos, the interior of the Datsun GO is modern, simple, functional and good-looking. The cockpit ahead of the driver and front passenger is split into three distinct zones and features leather feel grain patterns and three contrasting colours to add an air of sophistication. The driver's control is through a three- spoke steering wheel ahead of a single instrument cluster. Sporting distinctive white and blue colouring for the large speedometer, the combination meter also incorporates a Smart Meter comprising a digital tachometer and Gear Shift guide and Drive Computer.

Thanks to its overall dimensions, Datsun GO has the longest effective cabin in the class, making it a leader when it comes to interior space. Leg, knee and shoulder room is at or near best in class while the headroom is better than the competitors. At 265 litres the luggage volume is also best in the class.

Advanced electric power steering (EPS) at low speeds, provides more assistance for lighter steering feel when manoeuvring but offers more force when the car is travelling quickly.

Safety features include ventilated front disc brakes for shorter stopping distances and best in class lighting performance. Reducing driver fatigue has also been addressed by lowering wind, road and mechanical noise from the cabin by careful positioning of sound absorbing material on the bulkhead and under the floor and the adoption of door and window seals originally developed for Nissan's luxury models.

The car comes with a unique Mobile Docking Station (MDS) that allows an owner to sync his or her smartphone directly with the car. Instead of being restricted to a radio and, perhaps, a CD player, the new Datsun owner has access to satellite navigation, hands-free telephone, USB charger, music player and radio, via the smartphone. A range of

decals, branded seat covers, chrome fittings, roof rails, a spoiler and alloy wheels can be purchased separately to help every GO have a look of its own.

Tydens die 2de Nasionale Lilizela Toerisme toekeningsgeleentheid op 9 Oktober 2014 by Gold Reef City, is Longtom Gastehuis aangewys as een van slegs vier finaliste uit die nege provinsies in SA. Sephaku uses fly ash which cement, however fly ash does not substitute cement and gain strength when mixed with water; it compliments cement in that it uses by-products of the cement hydration process to build strength. As a result fly ash can be blended with cement in order to achieve a more cost effective cement solution. Fly ash particles being far smaller than cement and spherical in shape fill the voids between cement particles in the concrete matrix, which results in less water being required to get concrete into a workable/placeable state. The lower water content increases the concrete density which in turn improves the concrete durability, in addition, the lower water content also contributes to other factors like less shrinkage/cracking. For long term strength development, fly ash is a synthetic pozzolan and will, in the presence of Calcium Hydroxide (from cement hydration process) and water, form C-S-H (Calcium Silicate Hydrate) which gives fly ash based concrete the ability to develop strength over prolonged periods of time. Other benefits of using fly ash based cements include: reducing the risk of thermal cracking in large concrete applications, improving concrete resistance to sulphate attack, increasing durability of concrete in high chloride environments (e.g. coastal areas) and preventing alkali-aggregate reaction in concrete. ARNO Oosthuizen, ’n lid van Gone Fishing Hengelklub, wat ’n geesdriftige swartbaar hengelaar is, het tydens ’n onlangse uitstappie ’n onvergeetlike hengel ervaring gehad. Arno was besig besig om met kunsaas vir swartbaars te hengel. Die volgende oomblik was dit net riete wat kraak, watergras wat trek en water wat spat soos ’n vis die aas

met mening gryp en verwoed na dieper water vlug. Met die gedagte dat dit ’n groot swartbaar is het die geveg begin. Na ’n halfuur het die vis die stryd begin gewonne gee. Om ’n baber van meer as 10kg op kunsaas te vang was voorwaar ’n prestasie.Die skoner geslag staan glad nie terug as dit by hengel kom nie. Amelda Oosthuizen en Marlize Oosthuizen was baie aktief langs die viswaters en het goeie vordering op die klub se puntetabel gemaak.

Joining a running club and then actually going down to the club and joining them for a run can be very daunting. Well – the good news is that it need not be, we've all been there at one stage so we know exactly what it's like to join a club and come running for the first time. We here at Longtom Marathon Club are a relaxed bunch that enjoy our running and socializing afterwards.The time trial in itself is not a race. It's a way of assessing how comfortably you can run over a fixed distance and a strategy to improve your actual race times. It is based on the idea of relative comfort – once you can run comfortably over the chosen distance, then the next step is to up your pace and run at that pace until the same level of comfort is achieved. No one is concerned where you finish relative to other runners – in fact they are only really concerned with their own times and how they compared to the previous week. Runners are coming in at different times for different distances so you cannot compare to where you finish anyway.We host time trials every Tuesday evening at 17:30, starting from the Lydenburg Squash courts in Little Joker Street. The 2 distances to choose from are a 4km and 8km route. Laminated maps of the routes are available at the start point. Also bring along reflective vests – please make use of them.As an incentive for improvement we award a time trialist of the Month for the 4km and 8km routes. This will be done using a points system. Points are awarded for attending the Time Trial, for marked improvement on average time, for running a PB, as well as for hosting a Time Trial. Points are accumulated throughout the year and will determine the Time Trialist of the Year, to be awarded at the Year End Function. TWO Rivers Platinum Mine hosted their AMMSA (Association of Mine Managers SA) Golfday on 8 October at the Lydenburg Golf Club. The drizzle could not prevent the teams (four members each) from playing excellent golf. Well known rugby players were amongst the teams who entered in support of AMMSA and Two Rivers Platinum Mine. Prizes were given to the winning teams and gifts were auctioned in aid of the charities that AMMSA supports. R200 000 plus was raised for the association. Adriaan de Beer (GM of Two Rivers Platinum Mine) thanked all the attendees and companies for helping them reach their goal.
