- 3. Conversation Starter 1 Political slogans are usually used during the presidential election seasons to shape the image of the candidates and parties. The slogan of president Obama was change in 2008 (at that time, the president was George W. Bush of the Republican party) and forward in 2012 (It was his second challenge as a president). Are there any famous political slogans in your country? or Do you know any interesting political slogans? (Politics)(Sukyeong Yeon)
- 4. Conversation Starter 2 One of the fields of study within agricultural engineering is post harvest. The purpose of this subject is to study techniques that minimize post-harvest losses. Do you know anything about this issue? What can be done at home to maximize the lifetime of your food? (Agricultural Engineering/Brenda)

- 6. PSU Student Interview Project Big Idea: For this project, you will: prepare interview questions about academic life at PSU videotape a 7-10 minute interview with a PSU student transcribe (write down) 1 minute of the interview and complete a transcription-analysis handout
- 7. Steps and Dates Learn about the assignment in class (10/7-10/9) Prepare questions for your interview (sometime before you schedule your interview) optional: take your questions to the Tutoring Center to make sure they are grammatical and clear (any time before your interview) Receive the email address of your interviewee (10/9) Email your interviewee to set up a time (on or after 10/9) Write a draft of the questions you will ask during the interview and bring them with you to class on 10/13 Conduct your interview (This MUST be video recorded, so make sure you have a plan to record. (i.e. meeting your interviewee at the Tutoring Center, One-Button Studio, or bringing your recording device to a quiet, campus location) Choose 1 minute of the recording (that contains interviewer-generated questions) to transcribe (write down). This must be typed and should include the time period you have transcribed. (i.e. transcription from the video at 1:10-2:10). Complete the Transcription Analysis Handout. Submit all materials: 7-10 minute video recording (Box) 10/24 by midnight Typed transcript of 1 minute of your conversation (Box) 10/24 by midnight Transcription Analysis Handout (scanned or re-typed) (Box) 10/24 by midnight

- 9. HW PSU classroom observation comments due by 10/8 at midnight Choose a PSU Observation Presentation that you are interested in watching. Answer the following questions in a 1-2 minute audio or video comment via Voicethread: What are some similarities and differences between the class that you observed and the class that your classmate described in his/her video? Can you think of an explanation for any of those similarities or differences? 2 points of extra credit offered for each (legitimate) extra comment that you make (5 comment limit). If you do the extra credit, send me an email to let me know which videos you commented on.
