Ultraviolet radiation. Follow instructions. Avoid overexposure. As with natural sunlight, overexposure cancause eye and skin injury and allergic reactions. Repeated exposure may cause premature aging of the skin

and skin cancer. WEAR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR; FAILURE TO MAY RESULT IN SEVERE BURNS OR LONGTERM INJURY TO THEEYES. Medications or cosmetics may increase your sensitivity to the ultraviolet radiation. Consult physician before using sunlamp ifyou are using medications or have a history of skin problems or believe yourself especially sensitive to sunlight. If you do not tan inthe sun, you are unlikely to tan from the use of this product.

To use, lie down under canopy and pull down as far as adjustment will allow. Minimum use distance from face tanner is 1 inch or 2.54centimeters. Minimum use distance elsewhere is touching the clear plastic panels. Do not use without clear plastic panels in place.Untanned persons should not tan on consecutive days during their first week of tanning. Never tan more than once a day. Tanning nor-mally appears after the first few sessions and maximizes after approximately four weeks. Tan once or twice per week thereafter to main-tain appearance. Persons already having a base tan may begin at advanced levels corresponding to the extent of their base tan.

New lamps emit approximately 10% more ultraviolet radiation during the first 50 hours of operation. Recommended tanning timesshould therefore be reduced by approximately 10% during that period.

WARNING: • Read the instructions booklet before using this sunlamp product. • All persons in the room should wear protectiveeyewear when lamps are on. Recommended eyewear: provided eyeshields (Lucas Products Super Sunnies or Intrexco No. 5635/1) orequivalent eyewear as defined under 21 CFR 1040.20. Other types of eyewear may not provide adequate protection.

Installation - Pre-Installation Planning

Pre-Installation PlanningBefore you begin to assemble your sunbed, you should observe the following pre-installation considerations.

• Your sunbed operates from a 220VAC source. You should have a NEMA6-20R electrical outlet (like the oneshown below) installed in the roomin which you will use the unit. Theoutlet should be on a dedicated cir-cuit capable of providing 20 Ampservice. We recommend installationby a professional electrician. Theoutlet must be earth grounded.

• Make sure the room in which youintend to use your sunbed is wellventilated. Air from the room is usedto cool the sunbed, and a poorlyventilated room may cause the unitto become hot and cause discomfortto the user.

• Your sunbed is designed to operatein an ambient room temperature of80°F maximum and 70% relativehumidity.

• Place your sunbed no closer than 6"from any wall. Make sure that cur-tains, drapes, and other room furni-ture do not obstruct the airflow intothe end caps or out of the fan open-ing areas.

• Proper assembly of your sunbedrequires three people. Plan to have acouple of helpers assist you.

Using Your Sunbed

Once you have read Before You Tan andExposure Times, you are ready to use yoursunbed. Proceed as follows.

WARNING! Your sunbed is designed forindividual use. Only one pair of protec-tive goggles is provided. Always wearthese or another approved pair of goggles.Regular sunglasses do not provide ade-quate protection from ultraviolet light. Youshould never look at the lamps whenturned on without wearing the appropri-ate protective goggles.

Step 1 For units equipped with a facetanner, activate the face tannerby placing the rocker switch, located next to the timer knob, into the “I” (ON) position. If youdo not wish to use the face tan-ner, leave the switch in the ”O”(OFF) position. NOTE! The Fmodel face tanner lamps need alonger after-use cooling periodbefore they will light again.

Step 2 Put on your goggles. Set thetimer to the desired number ofminutes (after first determiningthe proper time period from the

table on the previous page). Thelamps will turn on as soon asyou move the rotary dial fromthe “0” position.

Step 3 Lift the canopy, lie down on thebench (face up), and lower thecanopy toward your body. Forbest results, position the canopyas close as possible to your body, but do not bring the canopieswith face tanners any closerthan 1 inch from your body.

are and Maintenance

Cleaning After Use

Clean and disinfect your tanning bed’sbench and canopy after each use. Use anon-abrasive disinfectant cleaner that doesnot contain ammonia or ammonia deriva-tives. Ammonia may damage the acrylicshields. Spray the acrylic lightly with disin-fectant and wipe dry with a clean soft cloth. We recommend SunQuest® disinfectant andSunQuest® acrylic cleaner.

Thorough Periodic Cleaning

IntroductionThe cooling fans draw air through the bedand over time will cause a dust buildup onthe lamps and reflectors. This will reducethe tanning effectiveness of the bed. Whena dust buildup is observed, it is necessary tothoroughly clean the inside of the benchand canopy. Warning! Disconnect sunbedfrom electrical power before cleaning.

Cleaning the Canopy and BenchStep 1 Remove the acrylic shields and

lamps as described in ReplacingLamps.

Step 2 With a soft cloth, wipe the entirelength of each lamp to removeany film buildup.

Step 3 Clean both sides of the acrylicshields with a non-ammonia dis-infectant cleaner.

Step 4 Wipe the reflectors with a cleandamp cloth.

Step 5 Reinstall the lamps and acrylicshields.

Mechanical Inspection

Your tanning bed has been built for years ofservice. The bench is equipped with an hourcounter which keeps track of usage time. Toensure trouble-free operation throughout itslife, inspect the unit’s mechanical integrityevery 400-500 hours of use.

• Inspect the unit’s fasteners verifyingthat all are firmly in place. Pay partic-ular attention to the hinge bolts.

• Inspect gas springs for signs of wear.Gas springs that will not hold thecanopy in the full open position whenraised should be immediately replaced.

• Inspect the timer as indicated in thismanual under Timer Maintenance.

• Inspect the AC power cord and itsconnections.

• Inspect the acrylic. Broken, cracked orbadly scratched acrylics should beimmediately replaced.

Care and Maintenance - Replacing Lamps

Replacing Lamps

IntroductionTo be assured of maximum tanning effec-tiveness, change lamps after approximate-ly 800-1000 hours of use. Tanning willcontinue after this time but at a slowerrate. To ensure trouble-free operation ofyour sunbed, replace the lamp starterswhenever the lamps are replaced.

Warning! Disconnect sunbed from elec-trical power before servicing.

Removing/Replacing Acrylic ShieldThe acrylic shields in the bench andcanopy are secured in place by hingedprofiles which run the length of the bed, both front and back. Simply pry up on theinside edge of the profile, starting from themiddle of the profile, until it releases itslatching action (see figure at right).Continue to pry up the profile across itsentire length until it swings back freely.Repeat for the other profile. The long edgesof the acrylic shield are now exposed.

Standing in front of the sunbed, grasp theexposed edge of the acrylic and carefullyslide it toward you until it is removed.

After changing the lamps, replace theacrylic shields by reversing the abovedirections. Close the hinged profile bypushing it back into place until it snapstight.

Timer Maintenance

Your SUNVISION® sunbed is equippedwith a backup shut-off timer which willautomatically turn off the sunbed in theunlikely event of a malfunction of the pri-mary timer. This important safety featurealso prevents the user from resetting thetimer before the end of the pre-set maxi-mum time interval. The electronic timerlimiting circuit is automatically reset eachtime the primary timer is turned to theOFF position.

Annually, or whenever your sunbed is re-lamped, check the operation and accura-cy of the timer system as follows. DONOT perform these tests with a person inthe sunbed.

Step 1 Obtain an accurate watch capa-ble of measuring in seconds. Setthe timer to its maximum inter-val. Using the watch, time howlong the lamps remain on. Thelamps should shut off withinplus or minus 10% of the maxi-mum timer interval.

Step 2 Set the timer to the maximumtime interval. Wait ten minutes, then turn the knob back to themaximum time position. Theelectronic time limiting circuitshould turn the lamps off at anelapsed time equal to approxi-mately 10% beyond the maxi-mum timer interval, eventhough the primary timer con-tinues to show time left.

Call ETS Customer Service if your timerdoes not operate properly, or if you expe-rience difficulty with these tests.
