YKLETTERS TO THE EDITOR

EB, fire personnel rescue kitten strandeda top light post

Sir, In the early hours of Nov. 30, I noticed that a small kittenwhich had climbed a street light post on our street and wasstruggling to come down. The frightened kitten kept on mewingincessantly. Out of fear, it only kept climbing higher even assome morning walkers tried to bring it down. It had climbedvery close to the top and was at a mortal risk of gettingelectrocuted. I immediately called the Fire Service station.Officer Jayakumar immediately reached the spot and alertedthe EB fuse call office. EB staff immediately switched off thepower. Prem and Adhi, EB staff who rushed to the spot, climbedthe post with a ladder provided by fire service and safelybrought down the kitten and saved it. – S Dwarakanathan,Flat F 77, 53rd Street, Ashok Nagar

Bhagavatham Street residents sufferfrom contaminated Metrowater supplySir, The Metrowater supplied through the pipeline to the

residences in Bhagavantham Street (T. Nagar) has beenpolluted with sewage for the past several days. The pollutedwater contaminated the water sumps and overhead tanks andwe were forced to clean them. This was a huge problem withapartments that have separate tanks for each flat. With noother immediate option, we have closed the Metrowater inletvalve and are buying water for our daily household needs. Irequest the Metrowater authorities to resolve the problem atthe earliest. – R. Nimeshika, Bhagavantham Street, T.Nagar

‘No Parking’ rule violated blatantly due topolice inaction

Sir, It has become a mockery to have several ‘No parking’signboards in various places of the city, including North Cres-cent Road, T. Nagar where I reside. Vehicles, especially theones with ruling party flags, park right under the signboardthereby blocking the carriageway and causing inconvenienceto motorists. The same is the case on G.N. Chetty Road nearVani Mahal and adjacent to the flyover wherein cars are parkedon the pavement forcing pedestrians to walk on the busy roadthereby risking their lives. Since a number of concerts arescheduled in Vani Mahal this season, the condition is going toget worse for the patrons like me. An unauthorised vendor hasalso put up a tea stall under the flyover endangering pedestriansafety as his customers gather at the stall and block the road.In spite of several complaints to the police, no action had beentaken so far.— J. Krishnamachary, Advocate & Notary, T.Nagar

The vacant plot under theownership of Tamilnadu Hous-ing Board on P. T. Rajan Salai, near its junction with Dr.Ramasamy Salai (K. K.Nagar), was fenced last weekto prevent encroachments.

The plot was being misusedby miscreants for nefariousactivities.

Following repeated appealsfrom nearby residents, TNHBtook the initiative to fence theplot.

A building housing the TNHBcomplex in the plot was demol-ished some years ago due to itsdilapidated condition.

to give advance warning to approaching vehicles atnight at the busy junction on GST Road (NH 45) nearPerungudi.

A big inverted red plastic pot fitted inside with apowerful bulb has been placed atop a traffic signal postat the junction to warn the motorists. The bright redglow emanating from the pot is visible from a longdistance.
