CQU-UBC “2+2”joint program in Materials Engineering
The School of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University was founded in 1935, including two first-level disciplines, Materials Science and Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. Materials Science and Engineering is one of the national key disciplines while Iron and Steel Metallurgy is one of the National key disciplines(nurture). Both of two disciplines are also among national first-class undergraduate programs, and both of which have passed the China Engineering Education Certification. The School of Materials Science and Engineering has many outstanding faculties led by academicians, and has more than 18 National, provincial and ministerial research platforms, including National Engineering and Technology Research Center for Magnesium Alloy Materials, National Demonstration Center for Experimental Teaching of Engineering Materials. Some of the research works have been published in high level journals such as SCIENCE and NATURE, and the ESI index of the discipline of materials science and engineering is within top 0.1%.
University of British Columbia (UBC) is a multidisciplinary research university, which ranks top 50 universities globally, and is considered as one of the best 20 public universities in the world. It locates in Vancouver, which is regarded as world's most livable city. UBC has made remarkable achievements in the past 100 years, which has many outstanding alumni including three Canadian Prime Ministers and eight Nobel Prize winners. The School of Materials Science and Engineering of UBC (http://www.mtrl.unc.ca) was founded in 1915, its research and teaching covers traditional materials, new alloy design, advanced composite materials, electronic communication materials, biomedical materials and also including new energy materials, Environment-friendly materials and renewable resources etc. It is well known in the field of materials processing engineering.
The CQU-UBC “2+2” joint program in Materials Engineering started to recruit students in 2015.
Students enrolled in the program have the opportunity to study in UBC in the third or fourth year during four years of undergraduate study.
In 2019, 8 students of the first class have graduated with excellent grades and all of them pursued postgraduate study in the world’s famous universities (including QS top 50), such as Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Imperial College London, Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania and so on.

Program objectives
Deepen the personalized education, provide students with diverse learning opportunities, cultivate internationalized students. Meanwhile, the students can enjoy multi-national culture, improve ability of originality and international awareness, and become graduates with international vision and ability to participate in international competition.
Program mode
u“2+2” model Students will study at Chongqing UniversityIn the first
2 years. After they meet the requirements of UBC in English and GPA, they can study at UBC in the next 2 years. Upon completion of their studies, they will receive the graduation certificate and bachelor's degree certificate from Chongqing University and bachelor's degree certificate from UBC
l Basic requirements for admission in UBC: IELTS score＞6.5 or TOEFL scores ＞90. And the average score need to be higher than 80.
l Curriculum systeml Adopt the curriculum of UBC, and most courses adopt
the syllabus of UBC.l The teaching method is transferred from Chinese and
English Bilingual Teaching for grade one to English teaching for grade two, so as to improve students' English level while guaranteeing the learning outcome.

Tuition & Scholarshipl Tuition fees during the study in Chongqing University will
be implemented according to the existing undergraduate tuition standards of Chongqing University.
l During the period of study in UBC, the tuition fee shall be paid according to the UBC international student's standard: now tuition approximately C $50,000 / year (C $1,400 / credit).
l Students have the opportunity to receive scholarships during their studies.
Applicationl Number of applicants : About 30 students will be selected from freshmen majored in the science and engineering in Chongqing University.l Selection criterionIt mainly examines students' learning ability (college entrance examination results), English ability and so on.l Application methodApplicants need to apply online and confirm on website① Online application. ② Confirmation on the spot: Submit the application form and the copy of the college entrance examination results at the reception station for freshmen of College of Materials Science and Engineering upon admission.
③ Applicants who does not apply online can also go to the reception station for freshmen of School of Materials Science and Engineering for application and confirmation.
④ Selection time: After the registration of the 2020 freshmen.
