Thinking beyond just minimizing the harm we cause:

Concept and cases of Cradle to Cradle

Characterized by unprecedented economic dynamism and a rapidly growing population, India stands at

the threshold of profound choices about the path to future development. However, the positive prospects

also throw up challenges of the nation posing tremendous pressure on its resources and their

consumption. Resources are extracted, shaped into products, sold and eventually disposed-off in a

grave of some kind. Businesses need to think beyond the linear ‘take, make, dispose’ model of growth,

with a view to operate a strategic move towards an approach fit for the long term - a cradle to cradle

approach. The concept of cradle to cradle emphasizes that businesses should think beyond just

minimizing the harm they cause and work towards creating a beneficial footprint.

This session highlights cases wherein the Indian industry have turned their thinking beyond just

minimizing the harm caused, using the concept of Cradle to Cradle.
