Characteristics of Language: Combinable, Reflexive, Interchangeable
Importance: Comprehension of our human experiences, through reflection of our own personal connections. In order, to let others know how we feel, what we need, and to ask questions.
Role in the 21st Century Classroom: The role of language in the classroom is to develop communication competency. This would allow students to effectively communicate and more accepting of other studies and cultures. This teaching would dramatically break barriers of language, showing that you have an invested interest in the other person.
5 Tech Tools to Enhance Language Understanding
Voki: You are able to change the speech of the avatar, in order to let students ‘hear’ the language; Voki can be used daily if necessary.
Podcast: Students are able to find podcasts about communities they know and different cultures they wish to know more about. As a teacher you can make your own podcast by recording your lectures for your students.
Twitter: Students can follow people from other countries and ethic backgrounds. Twitter can also be a type of written communication/symbolism that could help familiarize students with the language.
WebQuest: Allows students to learn about language from in a more modern and interactive way for the digital learners of today.
YouTube: Students and teachers can get accessible videos (from phones, tablet, or computer) that are relevant to different languages and cultures, which is effective for small and large classrooms.
WebQuestThis Sign Language WebQuest helps motivate
students to learn a universal language, in order to benefit society.
Main purpose is to help students associate normal everyday objects with the appropriate sign. This helps students understand the point of view of peers with disabilities, and be able to communicate effectively.
Sign Language is also a good tool to implement within your classroom management. Ex. Student would sign for bathroom etc, in order to not
disrupt the classroom environment.

There are many ways to promote language competency through different technologies as we have thoroughly explained. Language is not only a spoken language but it is able to be physical and visual as well. Communicating effectively helps promote social enrichment and mental proficiency.
