Story Card 1 • Lesson 1—The Bible is a very special book.

Materials: Story Mat, Story Figures 1, 2 (Closed Bible, Storybook)

Before class, find a story mat to use for the stories this quarter. A small towel or blanket will work well as a story mat.

Put the Bible and Storybook, Story Figures 1 and 2, on the mat before telling the story.

This is a book. Ask a child to point to either Figure 1 or 2. This is a storybook. Have a child point to the storybook, Figure 2. This is a very special book. Have a child point to the Bible, Figure 1. This is the Bible. We learn about God and His love for us from the Bible. Have a child point to Figure 1.

The Bible is a very special book. Have a child point to Figure 1.

Story Card 2 • Lesson 2—The Bible tells us about Jesus.

Materials: Story Mat, Story Figures 1, 3, 4 (Closed Bible, Open Bible, Jesus)

Put the Bible, Story Figure 1, on the mat before tell-ing the story.

The Bible is a very special book. Remove Figure 1. Have a child put on the open Bible, Figure 3. The Bible tells us about Jesus. Have a child add Jesus, Figure 4. The Bible tells us that Jesus loves us. It tells us about Jesus helping others. The Bible tells (child’s name) about Jesus. Have the child you named point to Figure 3. Repeat for each child in the group.

The Bible tells us about Jesus. Have all the children in the group point to Figure 3.

Story Card 3 • Lesson 3—The Bible is God’s Word.

Materials: Story Mat, Story Figures 3, 4, 5, 6 (Open Bible, Jesus, Moses, Ruth)

Lay the story figures in front of you before telling the story.

The Bible is a very special book. Have a child put the open Bible, Figure 3, on the mat. The Bible is God’s Word or letter to us. Have a child point to Figure 3. God’s Word tells us about Moses and Ruth. Have a child put Moses and Ruth, Figures 5 and 6, on the mat. God’s Word tells us about Jesus. Have a child put Jesus, Figure 4, on the mat.

The Bible is God’s Word or letter to us. Have the children point to Figure 3.

Story Card 4 • Lesson 4—The Bible is true.

Materials: Story Mat, Story Figures 1, 3, 4 (Closed Bible, Open Bible, Jesus)

Lay the story figures in front of you before telling the story.

The Bible is a special book. Have a child put the Bible, Figure 1, on the mat.

The Bible is God’s Word or letter to us. Who can put the Bible, God’s Word, on the mat? Have a child put the open Bible, Figure 3, on the mat.

The Bible tells us about Jesus. Who can put Jesus on the mat? Have a child put Jesus, Figure 4, on the mat.

The Bible is true. Who can point to the book that is true? Have all the children in the group point to Figure 1 or 3.

Story Card 5 • Lesson 5—God made us.

Materials: Story Mat, Story Figures 6, 7, 8, 9 (Eve, Adam, Boy, Girl)

Put the story figures in the order you will use them before telling the story.

God made Adam. Have a child put Adam, Figure 7, on the mat. God made Eve. Have a child put Eve, Figure 6, on the mat.

God made boys. Have a child put the boy, Figure 8, on the mat. God made girls. Have a child put the girl, Figure 9, on the mat. God made you. God made me.

God made us. Have the children point to each other.

Story Card 7 • Lesson 7—God takes care of us.

Materials: Story Mat, Story Figures 5, 10 (Elijah, Birds)

Put Elijah, Story Figure 5, on the mat before telling the story.

This is Elijah. The king was mad at Elijah. God hid Elijah from the king. Have a child cover Elijah, Figure 5, with a hand.

God gave Elijah water to drink. God sent birds with food for Elijah. Have a child “fly” the birds, Figure 10, past Elijah. Then have another child put the bird figure on the mat. God took care of Elijah.

God takes care of us.

Story Card 6 • Lesson 6—God knows us.

Materials: Story Mat, Story Figures 4, 5, 7 (Jesus, Philip, Nathanael)

The Bible tells us about Jesus and His friends. Have a child put Jesus, Figure 4, on the mat. Philip was one of Jesus’ friends. Have a child put Philip, Figure 5, on the mat. Philip told his friend Nathanael, “Come and meet Jesus.” Have a child put Nathanael, Figure 7, next to Philip.

Nathanael went to meet Jesus. Jesus told things about Nathanael only God would know. God knew Nathanael.

God knows us.
