ENGINEER COMPANY 212th
Reaching the midpoint of the deploy-
ment is a milestone. Hopefully, every
212th Soldier is striving to achieve per-
sonal milestones as well. At the begin-
ning of the deployment, we all set at
least 3 personal goals. Thirty percent of
us wanted to try to complete some type
of coursework (OSHA classes, courses
for college credit, etc). Forty percent of
the unit set the goal of saving some
money, and nearly half the unit set the
goal of getting in shape or working out
more.
Most of us are well on our way to
achieving the goals we set; however,
don’t get discouraged if you haven’t
made much progress or even if you
haven’t started on some of your goals.
There is still plenty of time to work
toward them.
See SSG Hollingsworth if you want
to sign up for some of the free classes
here on AJ. Here’s a partial listing of
the courses offered: OSHA Construc-
tion, OSHA General Industry, HAZ-
WOPER, and Microsoft courses such
as MS Office Suite, MS Sharepoint, and
MS Project. Most of these classes cost
money to attend stateside; here
they’re FREE. Let us know as early as
possible so that we can get you on the
roster to attend.
Come by the company TOC and
let us know if you need help in starting
your Savings Deposit Program (which
can earn you up to 10%apr interest
and can continue drawing interest up
to 90 days after our return home) or if
you’d like to borrow the financial plan-
ning CDs that are available. It’s never
too late to start saving!
If weight loss is your goal, we can

FROM THE COMMANDER
help you with that, too. There
are nutritionists available who will
measure your Body Mass Index
(BMI), calculate your current me-
tabolism level, and figure out your
specific nutritional needs. They’ll
work with you every step of the
way to create and maintain a sen-
sible diet plan that will have you
shedding pounds and keeping the
weight off. If you don’t believe
me, just ask SPC Peppers or SPC
Boone who are both weight loss
success stories!
If you’re not at the fitness level
you’d like to be, our resident per-
sonal trainers would LOVE to
make you hate them at one of
their grueling work-out sessions.
Don’t let the word “grueling”
scare you, though; I’ve heard
nothing but positive reports from
Soldiers taking advantage of these
programs! SPC Swanson con-
ducts high intensity/low impact
workouts at the pool from 0500-
0600 every Tuesday and Thurs-
day, and she also conducts work-
outs on dry land each Tuesday
and Thursday from 1430-1530.
SPC Sveback offers cross-fit-style
workouts each Saturday from
0700-0800. If you’d like to join
ANY or ALL of these exercise
programs, contact the trainers
themselves to get your name on
their roster(s), or come by the
TOC so that SSG Hollingsworth
can sign you up.
The unit’s motto, “Build It Up!”
applies to more than just the con-
crete, wood, and masonry struc-
tures we’re known for. It also
refers to your life. So, take every
opportunity you can to build
yourself. Grow in education. Get
financially and physically fit. Set a
goal to accomplish something, and
then start moving to do it! If you
need help, let us know. We’ll do
all that we can to assist.
As we look back, there is no
doubt that we’re able to point out
the positive differences we’ve
made at Camp Arifjan and
throughout Kuwait. “Building it
up” is what we do as engineers!
Hopefully, at the end of this de-
ployment, every Soldier will also
be able to look back with pride
and acknowledge some accom-
plishments at a personal level,
some part of themselves that has
been “built up” too.

MOVING ON UP!
The 205th Engineer Battalion is
comprised of 7 companies, HHC,
FSC, 212th, 232nd, 377th, 922nd,
and the 955th. Two of those companies, the
232nd and 377th actually began their
deployment months ahead of the
rest of us and will soon be leaving. The 377th is the battalion’s other
vertical construction unit and for the
212th that means taking on more
projects, in more locations, and
some major shifting around. For the 212th’s 2nd Platoon, led
by 1LT Albritton and SFC Kollmann
that meant taking their Soldiers on
short notice to replace a platoon of
377th’s Soldiers at Camp Buehring. Second platoon replacing the 377th’s
platoon means that they are the major
Engineering element at their location
and will be the first to receive any tasks
that come up at Camp Buehring. Many Soldiers from the 212th had
just recently come home from a deploy-
ment with the Tennessee National
Guard’s 913th Engineer Company were
already familiar with the area, and the
212th actually stayed at Camp Buehring
the first few days in country, so the as
1LT Albritton and SFC Kollman handled
the logistics of the move, their Soldiers
were able to pack up and be ready for
their move in just a few days. Their move, however has left a hole
in the rest of the company with the company softball teams, as a good num-
ber of players are now up north, and
the friends that have been made now
separated. We look forward to the
platoon’s return and the 212th all being
together again.
