Padre’s Pen ~The Festival That Wasn’t,The God Who is

No Chicken dinners, no Bingo, no Kolacky, no Czech Dancers, no crowds gathering around our Church, Rectory, and Grounds. Something was definitely missing this last weekend. But, there was also something tangibly present and strong: the Holy Spirit of God, our Patron Saint and the whole Communion of Saints. We had rock star Top Six leaders: Mike DeGross, Becky Malecha, Dan Novak, Missy Trnka, Chad Franek, and Liz Neiderhiser. They made all the right decisions for our parish. Many thanks to them for our Polka Masses, the regular raffle, and the bucket raffle. Their hard work and your commitment to our parish will help us weather these difficult times and, God Willing, come back next year to a more normal festival weekend.

It has been very humbling to see so many people walking up to my back door and putting envelopes through the slot and pulling so many envelopes out of the mail on the front of the rectory. Your generosity and commitment to our parish through these last few months has been astounding and I have no doubt we will do well into our future. Most important is our common worship and thanksgiving to God Almighty.

To that end, I am looking forward to our Patronal Feast of St. Wenceslaus on 28 September. The intercession and help of all our patrons in the Communion of Saints is important to our spiritual health. Our devotion to them is a manifestation of our love to the generous God who has set them to watch over us.

We are still in the planning stages for our Feast Day (Monday 28 September), but we are looking at Adoration in the main church all day with Benediction and Mass at 5:00 pm. I promised we would have some type of event surrounding the repair and restoration of our magnificent organ. I have tentative acceptance of a professional organist to play for us that day and highlight our repaired and tuned organ.

Lastly, I just want to say, “Thank You” and keep strong and faithful during these strange times in which we live. God is in charge. Give Him the praise, glory, honor, and adoration!

Community” at YouTube.com.

Saint Alphonsus Liguori(to pray anytime you are unable to physically participate in Communion)

My Jesus,I believe that You

are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already thereand unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.Amen.

Volunteers Needed!Volunteers are needed at all three church sites to help clean. Supplies are provided.

Are you attending any of our Masses? We could use help with sanitizing the church after every Mass, especially on weekends. It is an easy ten to fifteen minute job ~ made all the quicker if there is plenty of help. Volunteers for this should be under 65 or over 18 (youth may help with parental permission).

The Stream Team is also looking for people inter-ested in joining our camera ministry. Some famil-iarity with technology required. To volunteer for any of these opportunities, or for more information contact Pamela Sherlock at 952-758-0477 or [email protected].

You’re invited! Join us Sunday, September 9th, 6 pm, at St. John’s, Union Hill to pray the Patriotic Rosary. The Patriotic Rosary is prayed for protection and guidance for those serving in the military, for everyone serving in government, the leadership of our country, and our Catholic Church as well as for every person in every state in our union. We also pray in Thanksgiving for our religious liberty.

Meet our New Youth Minister/Confirmation Co-ordinator, Jeromy Darling: Jeromy is a lifelong fol-lower of Jesus Christ and recently entered the Catholic Church at St. Agnes in St. Paul on Pentecost. Coming from an Evangelical background, he is also a seasoned actor, speaker, and songwriter based in Prior Lake. Je-romy lives there with his wife of 18 years (his first and last girlfriend) and their four children: three sons under the age of 11 and their daughter who was born on Ash Wednesday this year.

Jeromy has spent countless hours ministering through music, in prisons, shelters, halfway houses, memory care units, and hospitals around the country since he be-gan full-time ministry work in 2014. To make ends meet, he has worked on the side as an actor and has appeared in numerous plays, indie films, commercials, and maga-zines, and made his television debut last fall starring as Will Kellogg in the popular History Channel miniseries The Food that Built America.

Passionate about his faith, theology, philosophy and Scripture, Jeromy’s goal is to inspire today's Catholic youth to embrace the Great Adventure that is living bold-ly for Jesus Christ.

What does the Bible say about creation? We are created by God and made in God’s image. That makes each of us valuable, unique and deserving of re-spect. Our lives are grounded in three relationships: with God, our neighbors and the earth itself. A rupture in any of these relationships is sin. Genesis 1:2 suggests that humans have been given “dominion” over the earth, and this verse has been used as justification for an “unbri-dled exploitation of nature.” (LS 67) Instead our role is to till, keep and protect the earth. (Gen. 2:15)

20TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 16, 2020

In Laudato Si, Pope Francis tells us, “'Tilling' refers to cultivating, ploughing or working, while 'keeping' means caring, protecting, overseeing and preserving. This implies a relationship of mutual responsibility be-tween human beings and nature. Each community can take from the bounty of the earth whatever it needs for subsistence, but it also has the duty to protect the earth and to ensure its fruitfulness for coming generations" (LS 67). This means that both the land and animals are to be treated with respect. If we fail to make God central to our relationship to creation, we risk thinking that WE are God. God alone owns the world, and we are the ones chosen to tend and keep this earthly garden.

Reflect and ActMeditate on and pray with this verse of scripture: “‘For thus,’ says the Lord, the creator of the heavens, who is God, The designer and maker of the earth who estab-lished it, Not creating it to be a waste, but designing it to be lived in: ‘I am the Lord, and there is no other.’”Is 45:18

How has humankind laid waste to God’s good creation? What is one thing you can do to honor, protect or restore a little part of God’s creation?

FAITH FORMATION ANDYOUTH MINISTRY

Wednesday night Disciples of Christfor this year!

We are so excited about our new curriculum for our DOC (Faith Formation) sessions for this year. We have opted to go with St. Mary’s Press for our 1-5 grade students (watch the video on our newpraguecatholic facebook page). We are putting together simple lessons that will bring your family together while digging deeper into the Word of God. These lessons will be done at home at a time that is convenient for you. Carve out that 30 minutes of time to learn more who Jesus is and how He loves you, seeks you, and wants a personal relationship with you. Our 6 & 7 grade students will also be dig-ging deeper into the Bible, checking out some videos and having some faith discussions with parents as they grow in their love and knowledge of Jesus.

We look at this as an opportunity to spend some qual-ity family time getting to know Jesus, His Word, and what it means for your life. This is important stuff. PLEASE make it a priority with your family. We are equipping our children to face the things of this world with a heart and mind of spirit and faith. Register to-day on our website; npcatholic.org. Questions? [email protected]. Please have your registration in by Monday, August 17.

Confirmation: Grades 8 & 9We have a new Youth Minister/Confirmation Coordinator ~ welcome Jeromy! We had so many good candidates and appreciate what Jeromy will bring to this ministry. We ask that you be patient a bit longer as we figure out what Confirmation will look like this year. Students at Saint Wenceslaus School will receive their year 1 prep in school. For the remaining grade 8 students, and all sec-ond-year candidates … it is still a work in progress. We are taking into consideration directives from many dif-ferent reliable sources and will be moving forward soon. Nevertheless, please register your 8 & 9 grade child if you want them to prepare to receive the sacrament. Get-ting an accurate registration count will help us to plan accordingly. Thank you

SCHOOL NEWS from SWS

Thanks to all of our generous donors for our Summer Challenge Grant 2020. The Schulze Family Foundation challenged our

school to raise $20,000. They would donate a matching $20,000. This funding will be used to support our school with resources and supplies amid COVID-19. We are so thankful to the 151 people who contributed to this fund and to the Schulze Family Foundation! WE DID IT!

A new challenge grant will be coming for one month only ~ September 2020 ~ To be used to help with a vari-ety of COVID-19 related challenges for our school!

Please pray for all our generous donors who made this possible. Our children will all benefit from this gift. Blessing to all and prayers for health to each of you.
