Dear Congregation,

Today we continue our four-week worship theme called 500 Years! Living Out the Great Reformation. Each Sunday, we are lifting up one of the major themes of the Protestant Reformation and seeing what it means to us 500 years later. Along with the current Pastor’s Class, and the Wednesday night Bridge series, we are dedicating this fall to the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation. This fall emphasis will lead us to next Sunday, which is Reformation Sunday, which promises to be a true highpoint of our worship for the entire year. There will be one morning service next Sunday, at 10:30 AM in the Sanctuary. Special music will lift the rafters in celebration of our faith tradition.

Following the service, there will be a special luncheon information meeting to present the details of our next church travel pilgrimage, which will happen in September of 2018. In this pilgrimage, we will follow in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul through Greece and Turkey. If you would like to attend the luncheon and hear more about this opportunity, please sign up at the table in the Garden Court.

And at 4:00 PM next Sunday, our music department, under the leadership of Josh Phelps, will present a special musical program entitled God’s Kingdom is Forever. Our chancel choir will be joined by other congregation choirs in our area, along with a guest clinician, a professional brass quintet, and Dr. Melissa Plamann on our magnificent sanctuary organ. Together, they will offer inspiring hymns that come from Martin Luther or the tradition he began.

Reformation Sunday, October 29, is a day not to be missed. And our road to it continues today. As we look at the foundational “Solas” of the Protestant Reformation, we come to the third one. Sola Scriptura. It means, simply, “Bible Alone”. What does it claim, and what storm did it unleash? Let’s see as we gather to worship God!

In God’s Love,

Dr. Paul J. KirbasPastor/Head of Staff

SAVE THE DATE!Community Work Day at Connecting Point Saturday 10/28/2017 / 10:00 AM until the work is finished

Calling all yard enthusiasts, compulsive cleaners, and fix ‘er up tinkerers! We’re gathering to spruce-up Connecting Point for the Fall and Advent season, and we need all hands on deck. The Boy Scouts of Troop 4 will be here en masse installing our new Prayer Garden while we work inside and around front. It will be great fun! High school students who participate can receive community service hours if they bring their school or organization’s paperwork. Bring your favorite tools, cleaning supplies, and yard gear along. See you then!

STEWARDSHIP SEASONConnecting Point has begun our stewardship season. As we look at budgeting for 2018, we ask you to prayerfully consider how you can give to the church, either financially or through time and talent. Approximately 50% of our budget each year goes toward keeping our lights on. Outside of that, we have a few staff members that put together all the programming, whether it’s children or adult education, music on Sundays, worship planning, or preaching. We may be small, but we’re mighty. I’ve never seen a more willing group of people than the people of Connecting Point. Please turn in a pledge card or let the financial team know of your commitment by November 5. Tyler Eckert ([email protected]) and Aaron Hensley ([email protected]) can be contacted with the amount and frequency of your gift as well as with any questions regarding online giving. “Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:7

HOLY YOGA FALL SESSIONOur Fall Session of Holy Yoga is well underway! Come join us on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:00 (with childcare) or on Saturday mornings at 9:00 (without childcare). Tuesday and Thursday classes are “break a sweat” worship experiences. Saturday classes are slower paced and more meditative - for those of you who just need to stretch, breathe, and pray. The session ends on November 18th so there is still plenty of time to join in. Check out our Facebook page to see a cool time lapse video of Thursday night yoga! It’s 30 minutes of class in 30 seconds!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT POTLUCK & BIBLE STUDYPotluck dinners, childcare, and open space for dialogue surrounding the questions facing the twenty first century Church - what more could you want? Join us November 1st and 15th! Our study is “Living the Questions,” and is focused on truly living with questions of church and faith in community. We meet every first and third Wednesday of the month with dinner, a short video, then discussion. Participants are encouraged to do some light reading from the book. Contact Hanna Hensley, our Education Coordinator for more details.

MARLA KIRKPATRICK Marla Kirkpatrick is healing well, due in part to all of the delicious food she has received from Connecting Point friends. Marla sends her thanks and says that she doesn’t need any more dinners. This meal train has left the station!

SOUNDBOARD TRAININGIf you’re interested in learning how to work Connecting Point’s soundboard, please contact Tyler Eckert. He would like to train individuals for services and evening activities.

Thursday mornings from 10 AM - 11 AM Connecting Point is hosting a Playground Playgroup for young children and their parents. If you are a parent of young children or if you just really enjoy playing with young children, please come play and pray with us!

Remember to silence all cell phones. No food or drinks are allowed in the Chapel or Sanctuary.

STEPHEN MINISTRY Worried and Stressed? “The snares of death encompassed me, …I suffered distress and anguish.” Psalms 116:3 In our busy and fast-paced culture, worry and stress have become constant companions for many of us. We often live anxiously. Bombarded by news of tragedies on almost a daily basis can cause distress in our lives. Being overwhelmed with activities, information, appointments, and debts, we find it hard to “rest” in God’s mercy.A Stephen Minister can be a presence beside you during these times of crisis and stress, listening and caring for you, helping you sort through your feelings and discovering the resources you need to make it through. If you are interested in learning more about our Stephen Ministry program, contact Rev. Michelle Junkin, our Associate Pastor for Congregational Care, or Glenn Dunn, our Lay Pastor.

STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN 2018Try to imagine what God could do….through us! On Reformation Sunday, October 29, we will begin our 2018 Stewardship Program. For three weeks, we will be invited to imagine the possibilities of our ministry together if we all deepened our stewardship for God’s work in and through Westminster Presbyterian Church. Our Stewardship leaders are John and Jane Kenney, and Carl and Susan Edwards. During the weeks ahead, through special mailings, special events, and presentations in worship, you will be invited to offer a pledge of financial support for the work of the church in the year ahead. Be in prayer now as you seek to discern what God is calling you to do. It is an exciting time in the life of our church. Together, let’s imagine what God could do through our giving!

STEWARDSHIP 2017As we enter the last quarter of 2017, please note the remaining amount needed to make our goal for the 2017 annual stewardship campaign is $616,000.

As construction begins on our 2020 Capital Campaign, it presents the need to make significant disbursements of funds to pay for the renovations. We thank everyone who pledged and supported the 2020 capital campaign. To stay on schedule, if you can do so, please prayerfully consider making your commitment earlier. Our thanks to everyone who has made, and can make, this possible!
