DESCRIPTION

This is a selection from (the) mortalitybook, a web experience that explores what it means that WE die, but the imprints we leave on the internet don't. Fall into it starting May 3rd, 2012 at http://themortalitybook.tumblr.com/.

2O5O: A SOCIAL ODYSSEY

First, we carved on rocks. It was our only method of communciation.

Then we SCULPTED rocks.

Then we PAINTED rocks.

Then we PAINTED.

BUILT.

DESIGNED.

CREATED.

SHOT.

And the thing that’s remained consistent for these 2.5 million years is that what we created was always based in, on, or off of reality.

WE ALWAYS DREW OURSELVES.

“Ourselves,” in this case, is homo sapiens.

If we drew aliens, we based them off ourselves. If we drew landscapes, we based them off our perspective of landscapes. If we painted abstracts, we based them

off the world we knew.

THE SAME IS TRUE TODAY.

Social media isn’t the beginning– it’s the epitome. We leave imprints in videos, photos, art, the written word– all of these hold our identities. It’s just that until now, nothing’s ever been so accurate as to who we are. RIGHT DOWN TO OUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS.

HAS EVERYTHING BEEN LEADING UP TO THIS?
