Dear Resident:

We made it to 2022! On behalf of my colleagues on the Town Board, I would like to wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year.

2021 was another challenging year, but I have to commend and thank our residents for their perseverance and strength as we continued to deal with the effects and aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. I would also like to thank our amazing town staff including our blue collar Teamsters Local 237 and white collar CSEA Region 1 employees as well as our part-time and seasonal staff, and of course, our administrative team, for the hard work and dedication over the last two years.

Inside this calendar you will find important information regarding garbage pickup, town services and programs, as well as exciting news from our community. Please make sure to read through and see what is available to you as a resident.

It’s a special year for the Town of Babylon as we mark the 150th anniversary of our establishment. In 1872, residents voted to separate from the Town of Huntington and form the Town of Babylon. From humble beginnings, our town has grown and adapted to meet the needs of our residents and businesses. Celebrating our shared history, our anniversary theme is - Town of Babylon ... United in Care, Consideration and Compassion. For more information, please check www.townofbabylon.com for a list of anniversary events occurring throughout the year. I wish you a fantastic 2022!

Sincerely,

Local Students Paint Murals at Cedar Beach

As residents return to Cedar Beach for the 2022 summer season, they’ll be met by a brand new mural in the tunnel that connects Cedar Beach to Cedar Beach Marina. In October 2021, a mural painted by students from Amityville, Babylon, Deer Park, North Babylon and West Babylon High Schools was dedicated at Cedar Beach. Local artist Ron Becker, who serves on the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts (BACCA) Advi-sory Panel, facilitated the participation of local high school artists under the guidance of their teachers. Students were encouraged to design their sections of the mural fol-lowing a nautical theme, and there are plans to complete a second mural in the spring

of 2022 with students from additional Town of Babylon school districts.

Bike Share Program Allows Residents to Explore Expanded Ocean Parkway Greenway

Enjoy the Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway with a bike ride via the Bethpage Ride Pedal Share Program! Bike stations located at both Cedar and Gilgo beaches allow residents to easily check out a bike and go for a scenic ride on the barrier island. The extension of the

coastal greenway into Babylon was completed in early 2021 and al-lows riders to go from Jones Beach State Park all the way to Captree

State Park or anywhere in between. For more information, please visit the Bethpage Ride webiste at: ridepedalshare.com

Summer Concerts & Movies

Parks ImprovementsThe Town of Babylon proudly unveiled new and imporved equipment to our parks facilities in 2021. New ball fields at Tanner Park, and new playgrounds

at Overlook Beach and Fabio Buttittia Park in Deer Park all made for a fun and enjoyable summer for kids throughout the town.

In 2022, the town will continue to invest in its parks with planned updates at several facilities and money dedicated in the capital budget to adding handi-

caped accessible equipment to playgrounds throughout the town.

If you have questions about parks facilities or events,

please call parks & recreation at: 631-893-2100

In 2021, we were glad to be able to safely welcome our residents back to the annual Sum-mer Concert and Movies Series’. The Concert Series featured fan favorites like Jessie’s Girl and Lords of 52nd Street, while the movie series featured kids classics like Star Wars and Finding Nemo. As always, admission to all summer concert and movies is free to all resi-dents and we hope to see you at both series in 2022! Be sure to check out this summer’s

line up in our 2022 online interactive recreation guide.

The Soldier Ride is an annual event hosted by the Town of Babylon in partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project each July. In 2021, the event was hosted by Councilman DuWayne Gregory and limited to warriors only in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Soldiers rode from Babylon Town Hall to Overlook Beach and were cheered on by residents who gathered at various “cheer corners” throughout our villages and hamlets. Check the town website for

Our amazing lineup of Chambers of Commerce across the town are here to help! Reach out to your local chamber to find out how they can assist your businesses’ needs as you navigate the recovery

process from these uncertain times.

Locally-owned businesses are the heart of the Town of Babylon’s economy. Their owners and staff have a vested interest in the communities they operate in.

Now, they need our help.

The outbreak of COVID-19 on Long Island has affected many aspects of our lives. It’s especially hard for our small businesses who have closed their doors in an effort

to stop the spread to keep their customers and employees safe.

I encourage our residents to support these businesses as they recover and rebuild. Order takeout from your favorite restaurant, stop by a local coffee shop, buy new clothing or a

special one of a kind item from a boutique rather than a national department store chain, or purchase a gift card from one of the many local businesses that offer them.

By working together, we can help our small businesses get back on their feet and strengthen our local economy.

The Babylon IDA is Here to Help! The Babylon Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is committed to helping small businesses across the Town of Babylon. The IDA has launched multiple initiatives in the wake of COVID-19, including a Business Boot Camp video series, support for local artists, assistance for minority and women-owned businesses looking to expand their operations and more. Visit www.babylonida.org for more information.

The Town of Babylon begins Veterans Awareness Week the week before Veterans Day with a ceremony in the Town Board Room to honor our nation’s service-members and recognizes the sacrifices that they and

their families have made. Our military veterans are invited to participate in the program and the winners of a town-wide school essay contest are announced. Please check the Town’s website for dates and times for this

year’s activities. In 2021, the event was held at Tanner Park Senior Center due to renovations in the Town Board Room.

Town of Babylon Honors “Hometown Heroes” with Banner Program

The Town of Babylon is a Purple Heart Town

In 2021, The Town of Babylon partnered with the Lindenhurst Kiwanis Club to honor our local heroes by hanging banners on lightposts in every hamlet across the town. The banners feature the photo and name of someone who

has bravely defended our country overseas, and they are hung from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.

The program for 2022 will reopen in January 2022. To purchase or renew a banner, constituents can visit www.lindenhurstkiwanis.org/HometownHeros.

Also check www.townofbabylon.com for more information.

Run for the WarriorsThe Run for the Warriors is an annual event hosted by the Town of Babylon each November. In 2020 and 2021 the event was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Check the town website for more information on the Run for the Warriors. We

hope to see you back in person in 2022!
