GRADUATE CREDIT COURSE EDSP 670

SCMEA IN-SERVICE CONFERENCE, FEBRUARY 6-8, 2020 Dr. Sue Samuels; Furman University

Welcome to Columbia and the 2020 SCMEA In-Service Conference. This year’s conference promises to be especially exciting. Please read below the requirements and process for obtaining graduate credit through Furman University for this workshop. 1. Attend 15 clock hours of sessions. In addition to regular sessions, you may count concerts, banquets (if there is a program and a speaker), divisional business meetings, and exhibit time viewing curricular materials. 2. Keep a diary of the events you attend. Provide me with a document that includes a BRIEF 3-4 sentence summation and critique of each event you attend. (REQUIRED) This does not need be a lengthy transcript, but rather a synopsis of the things you learned or observed at each event. Please write your observations with full sentences in paragraph form. Evaluate the sessions as you deem appropriate, but a possible line of thought may be:

1) Which clinician did you think was most effective and why? 2) Did you hear any new music or find materials that would be effective in your

teaching situation? 3) Did you gather any advice or materials on advocacy that can assist you in your

teaching situation? 4) Would you recommend the clinician to a colleague? 5) How did the conference/session help you grow as a musician a/o teacher?

Because of the reduced fee structure for this year’s course, there will be no faculty response to the document you present. 3. In order for your transcript to be sent to your State Department of Education, please complete the web form found on the Furman Office of Academic Records website:

Google “Furman Academic Records” or Visit https://www.furman.edu/enrollment-services/records-registration/academic-records/

There is a five-dollar ($5) fee for this transcript service.

4. To receive credit promptly, please send me your document by Monday, March 9, 2020. If you prefer, you can send your document via email: [email protected] If received by the above deadline, grades will be posted at the end of spring semester.
