CHARITY

Take care of your own soul and of another man’s body, not of your own body and of

another man’s soul.

To pity distress is but human, to relieve it is Godlike.

What is an offering to GOD? - Charity to his children.

Man, like a generous vine, supports lives: the strength he gains is from the

embrace he gives.

There is an element of time in all human wants. When a man is cold he needs

warmth now – not after spring thaws him out.

Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without

forgetting.

As the purse is emptied the heart is filled.

You give but little of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you

truly give.

There is more power in the open hand than in the clenched fist.

Behold, I do not give lectures or a little charity. When I give, I give of myself.

A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog when you

are just as hungry as the dog.

According to Israel’s law, no man has the right to more than bread, water

and wood

– so long as the poor are not provided with the necessities of life.

Not he who has much is rich, but he who gives much. Whoever is capable of giving

of himself is rich.

He who saves one life is considered as if he has preserved the whole world.

Confirming Your GiftLegacy gifts have increasingly become part of future planning when individuals and families meet with their financial, insur-ance and legal advisers. Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek and participating organizations in The Life & Legacy program can help facilitate your philanthropic planning by offering access to investment options such as gift annuities and donor advised funds. Let us know if you have already worked with a financial adviser to include supporting them in your plans. If you designate one of the Life & Legacy participating organizations, they may earn an additional financial incentive.

There are many ways, including making a bequest in a will or trust; naming the organization of your choice as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, IRA, or pension fund; giving a gift of cash or assets; setting up a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust. Please consult your professional adviser to determine which method of giving is best for you.
