PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

MTA WORK DAYPlease join us on Saturday April 18, 2020 to prepare the

MTA Home Grounds for a great shooting season 9:00 am to 3:00 pm – Lunch Provided

BRING YOUR GUN – OPEN SHOOTING AFTER

The Michigan Trapshooting Association invites everyone to the 2020 shoot-ing events held at Mason. This is our 53rd year at our home grounds. If you’ve shot here before, you know that our great targets, green background, and big facility make these shoots some of the best you’ll find anywhere.Congratulations to the Michigan All-Americans, Sub-Junior Aiden Blaz, Ju-niors Jackson Sokel and Skylar Clark, Lady I Jacque Snellenberger, and Open Keith Heeg. Getting to this level of accomplishment requires a lot of time and effort in addition to great shooting. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank our Board of Directors, volunteers, con-tributors, Rick our groundskeeper, and Jeff who is our new MTA Club Man-ager, as it takes everybody to have great shooting events. There are very few program changes this year. Shooters told us that they liked what we changed last year by shooting more targets. The new Special Land Use Permit we got in Spring 2019 allows us to add some shooting days this year. The program for these one-day shoots is not in this booklet, but there will be no trophies, and we expect registered singles, doubles, and handicap to be available. Look for postings with more information at the Spring Team Shoot. This will be a good way to get in targets to avoid those penalties at the Grand!Again this year, we have many vendors and sponsors. They make the shoots go better. Please support them as they are supporting us.In July 2019 the MTA hosted the second USA High School Clay Target League National Championships. We used 40 program traps and about 1,700 young shooters participated. In this four-day event, we threw 505,000 clay targets. Volunteers are welcome for the 2020 National Championships July 8-12.

As I complete my sixth year on the Board of Directors and my third year as President, I need to say thanks to the shooters. We can’t do it without you. Working together, we’ve done a lot, but as always, there’s more to do.

We look forward to another safe fun shooting year at Mason in 2020. See you there!

JB Lewis, MTA President

HELLO FROM THE MICHIGAN TRAPSHOOTING HALL OF FAME

I would like to congratulate the two inductees for 2020. They are Larry Telfer and Sally Telfer. Both are very accomplished shooters and have been tireless supporters of the MTA. Please join us at the State Shoot for this celebration.

We are continuing to hand out Hall of Fame Scholarships. So next, I would like to introduce the scholarship recipients for 2020. They are Spencer Bundy and Hannah Doyle. Please come support these young shooters at the All State Team ceremony between hundreds of the State Singles Championship.

We continue to raise funds for our ongoing projects with one goal being a more per-manent home for the Hall of Fame museum material and the many photos. The Hall of Fame, like the MTA, is a 501-(c)-3 nonprofit organization. We raise funds through raffles, silent auctions and such things as belt buckle sales. Although we don’t solicit them, donations are always welcome.

This year, we would like to ask for help with raffle ticket sales from the youth teams at the Spring Team Shoot. We are asking all youth teams, AIM, SCTP, and High School, to sell tickets. The team that sells the most will receive practice tickets for their team. Practice tickets can be used at any MTA event. Youth teams can earn free practice for their team. Contact any Hall of Fame board Member for more in-formation.

I want to thank everyone for their continued support for the Hall of Fame.

HOW TO ENTER AN EVENT

In order to shoot in an event, you must first be classified and have your information entered into our computer system at the classification counter. Classification, Squadding and Cashiering will be open from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm the day prior to each shoot. Classifica-tion, Squadding, and Cashiering will open at 8:00 am every day during the shoot (7:30 am on the Sunday of the Team shoots). Closing will be 4:00 pm or a time set by management and announced on the PA system prior to closing. The cashier windows are located in the east end of the cafeteria building. 1. This will allow us to fill the holes in short squads, making the tournament more enjoyable for everyone. 3. Cashiering: You will only need your A.T.A. card in order to pay for your shooting. When you pay for the first event, you will receive a receipt showing all of the squads that you’ve squaded for (paid for or not), and options played (if any) for each event cashiered.

2. At the State Shoot beginning with Event 8, high scores in each class will advance one class. Should you earn yardage in any handicap event, you must report to the classification counter to have your average card punched to the new yardage. Any shooter whose yardage or class has changed for any reason shall be considered to have been notified when the new class or yardage is posted in the scoreboard annex. Change of yardage for any shooter may be made at any time during the year including immediately before and during the shoot.3. Any shooter who shoots in a class or from a yardage higher or lower than the assigned class or yardage will be subject to disqualification and will not be eligible to share in any money division or eligible for trophies.

If a shooter’s score qual-ifies for more than one trophy, that shooter must notify the office within 15 minutes after that event’s last scores have been posted, as to which trophy he/she desires to take or shoot off for. Concurrent special awards are exempt from this rule.If the shooter fails to make appropriate notification of his/her choice, the Directors will make the choice for that shooter.Second and third places in Special Catergories will be determined by reverse long run or coin flip if not decided by Championship shoot-off.

This rule shall not be interpreted to affect the right of all contestants whose score qualifies them from shooting off for the Championship Trophy in any event. Championship Trophy, for the purpose of this rule, means the trophy awarded to the highest scoring event winner. It does not mean class champions, special category champions or any other trophy than the high score winner and runner-up.2. Leader-to-date listings are displayed on the video monitors in the main cafeteria building and scoreboard annex to allow shooters to track potential shoot-offs. Shooters are advised to note where special category shooters may have high score/tie in class and special cate-gory. It is possible that a score lower than broadcast on the video display monitors may be involved in a shoot-off.3. Trophy ties in all handicap events will be shot off after the last event of each day. Trophy ties in singles and doubles events will be carried over to the next like event on the regular pro-gram whenever possible, and shot off by sub-event. If the program does not indicate a carry-over for singles or doubles events, the trophy ties will be shot off after the last event each day.4. Contestants in shoot-offs will be called over the public address system to report to the designated check-in area. Anyone in a tie who does not answer the call for shoot-offs will forfeit rights to any trophy.5. The trophy room is located at the east end of the cafeteria. It will be opened each day of the shoot at times determined by the Directors. Trophies will not be mailed.

6. Lists of unclaimed trophies are posted in the trophy room and the squading room. The M.T.A. will make every effort to get trophies to the winners. However, any trophies for the year not picked up by the end of the next shoot will be forfeited. Fall Team Trophies not picked up during the Fall Team Shoot can be picked up during the next year’s Spring Team Shoot. After that the trophies are forfeited. 7. Pins and Patches: Anyone breaking 100 or 200 straight without carryover for the first time at the Michigan home grounds will be awarded a State Pin. Only one pin will be awarded to any individual. Please inquire at Squading.

MAKE-UPSAny shooter missing all or part of a round should report to the practice traps for a make-up sheet, and make up the round(s) no later than 10 minutes after the last squad in that event has completed the event. Make-up rounds will be shot alone or with other make-up shoot-ers. If the make-up is not shot within 30 minutes after the event, all targets not fired at will be scored zero. No shooter can make-up more than 50 targets on the practice trap. They must re-squad or forfeit.

FEES1. Fees – Daily Fees: A.T.A. $3.00, M.T.A. $3.00. Payments may be by check (exact amount only) or cash in U.S. funds only. Payment by credit card is not available.
