Skellerup, New Zealand’s home of gumbootsOn 21st October, 1958, the very first Red Band gumboot rolled off the production line at the Marathon Footwear factory - soon to become Skellerup Industries.

We’ve been at the forefront of the industry ever since, regularly introducing new ranges (including Quatro and a variety of safety boots), and constantly searching for ways to innovate and evolve.

Today, you’ll find our boots being worn on farms and in factories, on building sites and in backyards, from one end of the country to the other.

Designed for KiwisOur gumboots are designed specifically for Kiwi feet, taking into account the wider-than-normal foot shape of the average New Zealander.

They’re also designed for Kiwi conditions, with unique construction techniques used to ensure they’ll stand up to anything our variable landscape, and our unpredictable climate, throw their way.

Every pair of Skellerup gumboots are tested against leaking, visually inspected for cosmetic blemishes and physically inspected in known wear areas to make sure the boot has been constructed to last.

Made to lastIt’s our mission to create footwear that stands the test of time. All Skellerup gumboots are assembled by hand and made from rubber making them superior to other products made from PU and PVC. To do that, we use high-specification rubber formulations which ensure our boots are long-lasting, hard-wearing and incredibly comfortable.

These special formulations allow our gumboots to flex millions of times without suffering surface cracking, and produce extremely durable soles.

Heavy-duty canvas lining gives our boots their structure and strength, and means the rubber components won’t separate (as most cotton sock-lined gumboots are prone to do).

Internal reinforcing guards against tearing and puncturing, while ultra-violet protection helps to combat the impact of New Zealand’s unforgiving sun, which degrades rubber quickly.
