The Philadelphia Public Relations Association, Inc. (PPRA), founded in 1945, is one of the oldest

and largest independent organizations of its kind in the nation. PPRA encourages a high

standard of excellence among public relations practitioners, promotes programs of benefit to

the general public, enriches the professional development of its members through various

services and programs, and offers social fulfillment through the camaraderie and high spirits

that characterize this Association. PPRA serves the entire Philadelphia area, including its wide-

reaching suburbs.

PPRA’s members are engaged in public relations activities for most of the major businesses and

industries, counseling firms, government agencies, banks, educational institutions, public

utilities, hospitals, nonprofit organizations, insurance companies and media of the Delaware

Valley. Members hold positions ranging from entry-level to senior executive or serve as partners

or owners of respected public relations agencies. PPRA is proud to count city officials and

practitioners of national prominence among its membership.

Membership in PPRA provides regular and frequent contact with professional peers through the

Association’s meetings and social events. Regionally and nationally recognized speakers share

their expertise at these meetings and provide practical insight for solving tough PR problems.

The meetings are also open forums where members are encouraged to explore new ideas,

discuss avenues of mutual cooperation, examine new means of communication and the

application of old technologies for new purposes, and generally share their experiences in an

atmosphere of professionalism and friendship.

HALL OF FAME RECIPIENTS

Gregg Feistman – 2019 PPRA Hall of Fame InducteeAs Assistant Chair for Public Relations at Temple University, Gregg Feistman is responsible fordirecting the Public Relations major and specializes in public relations, reputation management,strategic communications planning, corporate sponsorship, crisis communications, media relations,and organizational communication.

Prior to joining Temple University in 2002, Feistman’s experience included serving as VP and Directorof Public Relations for ING Direct, USA and PR Manager for Pep Boys. He has dedicated the last 18years of his career to forming future public relations professionals. He currently serves as the facultyadvisor for both Temple’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)—one ofthe oldest and top 10 chapters in the country—and Temple’s nationally affiliated student-run PR firm,PRowl Public Relations. He is also a member of the Faculty Senate and hires, mentors and coachesadjunct PR faculty.

He is an active member of the Philadelphia Public Relations Association, a long-standing member ofthe Philadelphia chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, and has been widely quoted innumerous consumer, business, and PR trade media. Feistman has also been a contributing writer toPublic Relations Tactics and has presented at conferences, including the annual Public RelationsSociety of America’s international conference.

An accomplished writer, Feistman has published a novel The War Merchants, and has a short storyincluded in the anthology Reading Glasses: Stories Through an Unpredictable Lens.

Derrick H. Pitts, Hon.D. – 2019 PPRA Gold Medal HonoreeDerrick H. Pitts is the Chief Astronomer and Director of the Fels Planetarium at The Franklin Institute. For manyPhiladelphians, Derrick H. Pitts is The Franklin Institute. Since 1978, Pitts has been teaching us to look up—and to wonder about what we see in the cosmos. Pitts’ signature planetarium shows have been viewed bymillions in planetariums around the world. He serves as a scientific consultant to many organizations, haswritten astronomy columns for newspapers and national magazines, and regularly appears as a contentexpert on major international television networks. On January 16, 2020, PPRA members and friends celebrated the 75th Anniversary of thePhiladelphia Public Relations Association.

Since 1945, PPRA has engaged with our city’s decision makers, advocated on issuesimpacting our profession, and celebrated the influencers and ideas that make our regiongreat. We look forward to continuing this legacy and staying true to our roots while embracingthis ever-changing industry.

• Founded in 1945, PPRA is one of the oldest, largest private public relations associations in thecountry.

• In 1954, PPRA presented its first Gold Medal Award, which has been bestowed 65 times.• In 1972, the first Hall of Fame inductee was honored. 45 people have been inducted. • In 2002, we added the Fast Track Awards and Dr. Jean Brodey Student Achievement Awards.

Eighteen people have received the Brodey Award and the Fast Track Award.• In 2009, PRoactive Philly was launched to create a way that further enrich our community by

offering pro-bono work. • In 2019, the organization launched “Drive for 75” its membership campaign leading to the

75th Anniversary Jubilee.

Philadelphia Public Relations Association believes that its members represent both ourassociation and our profession. We expect that our membership will adhere to high ethicalstandards as we each conduct business and strive to reinforce the importance of integrity in ourwork. Public relations professionals can have a unique and widespread impact on multipleaudiences and the community at large. Our work can affect commerce and public policy. We mayspur community participation and action or sway public opinion and consumer sentiment.Cognizant of this, we believe it is our duty to act ethically, honestly, and with integrity. We alsoacknowledge that our ethical obligations must remain constant, and our commitment to our corevalues steadfast, especially as the importance of global communications grows andcommunications technologies evolve. These Principles of Professionalism are designed toencourage public relations professionals to meet their obligations of civility and integrity to eachother, to the press, and to the public.

By seeking and retaining membership in the Philadelphia Public Relations Association, ourmembers commit themselves to:

• Deal responsibly and honestly with those we represent, with the media, with othermembers of our profession, and in all other forms of communication.
