CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION
WOODBRIDGE/BETHANY
SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

JULY 19, 2020

All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables.
He spoke to them only in parables,
to fulfill what had been said through the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables,
I will announce what has lain hidden
from the foundation of the world.”
Glory to God in the Highest
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you,
we bless you,
we adore you,
we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King,
O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world,
receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father,
have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
Second Reading
A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul
to the Romans
Brothers and sisters:
The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness;
for we do not know how to pray as we ought,
but the Spirit himself intercedes
with inexpressible groanings.
And the one who searches hearts
knows what is the intention of the Spirit,
because he intercedes for the holy ones
according to God’s will.

L. The Word of the Lord
R. Thanks be to God
First Reading
A Reading from the Book of Wisdom
There is no god besides you
who have the care of all,
that you need show you have not
unjustly condemned.
For your might is the source of justice;
your mastery over all things
makes you lenient to all.
For you show your might when the perfection of
your power is disbelieved;
and in those who know you,
you rebuke temerity.
But though you are master of might,
you judge with clemency,
and with much lenience you govern us;
for power, whenever you will, attends you.
And you taught your people, by these deeds,
that those who are just must be kind;
and you gave your children good ground for hope
that you would permit repentance for their sins.
L. The Word of the Lord
R. Thanks be to God
Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible
and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father
before all ages. God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father; through him all
things were made. For us men and for our salva-
tion he came down from heaven, and by the Holy
Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man. For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was
buried, and rose again on the third day in accord-
ance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of
life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic
Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness
of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of
the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
ANIMA CHRISTI (Prayer after Communion)
Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water
from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me. Separated from Thee let me never be. From the malignant
enemy, defend me. At the hour of death, call me. And close to Thee bid me. That with Thy
saints I may be Praising Thee, forever and ever. Amen
PRAYER TO ST MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle,
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
COLUMBUS HOUSE PPE UPDATE
Michael Coyne, a Fairfield Prep junior and a Confirmation candidate, writes to parish-
ioners:
“Thank you so much for helping me with my Columbus House drive. The efforts you
made brought in masks and gloves and cleaning supplies as well as generous cash do-
nations that enabled me to purchase more of the same. It felt good to complete the
drive and I have attached a few pictures from my drop off on Friday. Thanks again.”

The 2020
Mission Cooperative Appeal Collection
Second Collection THIS WEEKEND
Our second collection this weekend is for
the benefit of the Diocese of Kumbakonam,
India through the annual Mission Coopera-
tive Appeal Collection. Representatives are
unable to join us in person because of the
coronavirus pandemic; nonetheless, we seek
to assist them with our prayer and financial
support toward the Diocese. The Diocese
ministers to some of the most marginalized
communities in India and requests our help
with the construction of a needed chapel,
training for religious educators and lay min-
isters who serve 600 missions and for evan-
gelization efforts in rural areas.
We ask your generous response, especially
in these difficult times; checks can be made
out to The Catholic Mission Aid Office. Like
the parable of the mustard seed and the
yeast in this week’s gospel, our compassion-
ate sharing furthers the Reign of God.
Thank you for your kindness.
Daily Zoom Rosary
You are all invited to join our
Zoom Rosary group that
meets daily at 4 P.M. to recite
the Rosary. You don’t have to
join every day and we also
have silent prayers for those
who join us. Please send your
email and phone number and a member of
the Rosary group will send you information
or call you to walk you through the steps of
zooming to say the Rosary to petition an
end to this pandemic and these unprece-
dented times. Please call 203 787 8064 or
email [email protected].

Statement from the Office of the Archbishop about Black Lives Matter
In the midst of all that has transpired in our nation, the affirmation “BLACK LIVES
MATTER” is a necessary and important affirmation of the value, dignity
and rights of every human person, and is especially important given the
reality of racism experienced by people of color.
However, the affirmation “BLACK LIVES MATTER” should not be con-
fused with Black Lives Matter Global Foundation (BLMGF), an organization
of the same name. Although BLMGF claims to exist for the advancement
of Black people, its radical agenda goes far beyond the fundamental con-
cept of “BLACK LIVES MATTER,” and advocates positions that are antithetical to
Catholic moral teaching.
