We need your help to protect conscience rights for Manitoba doctors, nurses and other health

professionals.

Bill 34 - the Medical Assistance in Dying (Protection for Health Professionals & Others) Act is

currently passing through the Manitoba legislature. If this bill is passed, it will provide conscience

protection for health care professionals in Manitoba. We need to encourage Manitoba MLAs to

support this legislation.

[bill 34 can be read at: https://web2.gov.mb.ca/bills/41-2/pdf/b034.pdf ]

Join together with a wide movement in reaction to the decisions of Canada’s Courts and Federal Government to usher into our society – euthanasia. “Physician-assisted suicide”, more popularly referred to as “Medical Assistance in Death” (MAiD) has rapidly spread throughout the country with provincial governments having a say as to the regulation of the practice. Although provinces are seemingly denied a right to reject ‘MAiD’ provincial legislatures can regulate many safety measures and try to curtail negligence and abuses (which have already been reported). One thing that a province can do is allow persons and institutions that do not want to participate in the killing of the elderly, the terminally ill and depressed, etc. - to opt out according to their conscience. Our provincial government has proposed a Bill to protect people of conscience. Those who do not want to participate in ANY WAY – even referral (which is, of course, participation) will have that right protected by law. What is needed from the citizens of Manitoba is to show that they support that law – “Bill 34”! The Government needs to know that people of good will in Manitoba – regardless of the their religious or political background – see the value of the law and want it in place to protect their doctors and themselves and the great Faith-based hospitals, homes and clinics that have served the people of Manitoba for years. All citizens of good will – which includes people of faith! – are encouraged to become informed and act expeditiously! Write a letter (even just a form letter) to your MLA (even to all MLAs) and Health Minster.

An effort that cannot be ignored! An undertaking that must succeed! We ask that every parishioner take action by writing to or calling to your MLA and to all the MLA’s in the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. Please use the letter like the one suggested below) to tell your MLA you are behind Bill 34 and you ask him or her to support it. It’s the right thing to do! You can go to www.gov.mb.ca/legislature/members/ or call 204-945-3636 for a full

list of all MLA’s in Manitoba.

Dear MLA _________________________________, I am writing to ask you to support Bill 34 - the Medical Assistance in Dying (Protection for Health Professionals & Others) Act, which is currently being considered by the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. If passed, this legislation will protect Manitoba health care professionals from having to act against their conscience. This Bill would make participation in assisted suicide voluntary and would overrule the policies of regulatory bodies should they require doctors, nurses and other health professionals to participate in Medical Assistance in Dying. I agree that no one should be forced to participate, either directly or indirectly, in ending a patient’s life. No one should be discriminated against because of their stand. Please take whatever legislative steps are required to ensure that no one is forced to participate in assisted suicide. Thank you, Name: Address: Email:
