Lab Report for Hands-On and Video Observation Labs

Question

How are cells affected by the movement of water?

The Microscopic Pores in the membrane allow substances to move in and out of the cell.

Hypothesis

(What do you think will happen to the egg after the three days? Be sure to give a reason for your hypothesis.)

I think that if the egg was in a diffusion of liquid then it will get bigger .

Data and Observations

1. The egg is in normal form.

2. The egg is not yet changing.

16 cm

24 1. The egg got large.

2. The egg is about to fade color

17.4 cm

48 1. the egg got larger

2. The egg was placed in a jar.

18 cm

72 1. The egg got a little more larger.

2. The half of the egg got faded.

Conclusion:

Be sure to answer the following reflection questions in the conclusion of your lab report:

Reflection questions need to be answered using complete sentences. Some questions may require a longer explanation in paragraph form.

How much did the egg change in size? (answer should be in centimeter)

About 1 cm to 2.5 cm

Was your hypothesis correct? Why or why not?

Yes, My hypothesis is correct because when I recorded the data and see the results after the 3 days it usually got bigger

Evaluate the lab and data collected. What type of transport occurred in this lab? Explain your answer, including evidence from your experiment to support your explanation.

The transport that occurred in this is osmosis because the water transported to the eggshell making it to expand.

Consider how lettuce or spinach placed in water becomes firm and crisp. Use what you have learned about cell membranes to explain this observation.

The cell membrane controls the material in and out of the cells.

If you were to continue this experiment by removing the egg from the water and covering it in syrup, what do you think would happen. Explain your prediction. (If you choose to test your prediction, be sure to allow at least 24 hours before making your observations. And, of course, handle the egg very carefully!)

I think that if you cover the egg it will dissolve the color of the shell and also it would expand more.
