“RIZING” UP Johnny Rizer has had a breakout start to the season in 2019. He entered the season carrying a five-game hitting streak that has stretched to 12 this season. He was hitting .353 (6-for-17) to end the sea-son. With his start to 2019, Rizer is hitting .400 (18-for-45) over the course of the 12 games. He ranks second on the team with five extra base hits and his .429 average is 6th in the Big 12. POWER SURGE Over the last four games, TCU connected for nine home runs, including five in Saturday’s win. The five long balls were the most in a game, home or away, since 2010. On the season, the Frogs have already hit nine home runs. In 2018, TCU didn’t hit its ninth home run until Game 13 on March 11. Six Horned Frogs have contributed to the nine home runs. Jake Guenther, Zach Humphreys and Alex Isola co-lead the team with two each.

ICE, ICE, BABY Jake Eissler has turned into one of the most reliable members of the pitching staff. Through his first 12 appearances of the 2018 season, opponents were hitting at a .377 (20-for-53) clip against the right hander. Since making a relief appearance against Texas Tech on April 29, 2018 in which he retired all 15 batters he faced, Eissler has been nearly unhittable. Over his last eight appearances dating back to last season, he’s limited opponents to a .158 (21-for-133) batting average and has fanned 52 bat-ters.

FRESH FACES TCU welcomed 18 newcomers in the fall and 12 have made their debut this season. Of the 12, eight made their first appearance in the field, while four debuted on the mound. Collectively, the lineup newcomers are hitting at a .300 (48-for-160) clip with 35 of the 52 RBIs. On the mound, the four newcomers allowed just seven runs (three earned) in 14.1 innings of work and tallied 18 strikeouts.

WINS AND LOSSES TCU has scored just one run in its two losses and is averaging 10.8 runs in its wins this season. When the Frogs score, they score in bunches. Already 11 times this season, TCU has produced multiple runs in an inning. The Frogs have scored a run in 21 of 58 innings this season. In 14 of those 21 innings, TCU has scored at least two runs. Over the last five years, TCU has scored mul-tiple runs in 488 innings. In 143 innings, TCU has produced four or more runs.

SPEED FACTOR TCU continues to be one of the most prolific base-stealing teams in the nation. The Horned Frogs wasted little time this season flashing their speed. TCU is 14-of-17 in the first seven games. That mark is tops in the Big 12 and ranks 36th na-tionally.

The Frogs are one of just eight teams to have stolen over 500 bases over the last 5+ years. The 513 stolen bases rank seventh in the nation and second among Power 5 teams.

IRON MAN Senior Josh Watson has been the model of consistency over the course of his career. He has played in and started every game of his collegiate career. School records are within in his site as he starts his senior campaign. He needs just 28 walks to hold the school record. Watson currently ranks fourth all-time with 131 walks. With 54 more games played, he will own the record. The senior is also chasing 200 career hits. He needs just five more to reach the milestone.

STINGY STAFF TCU has limited opponents to two or fewer runs 152 times over the last 330 games played. The staff has surrendered 5+ runs just 106 times. The Frogs’ 3.02 ERA since 2014 is fifth nation-ally. TCU led the nation with a 2.22 ERA in 2014 and ranked second in 2015 with a 2.45 ERA. Ad-ditionally, the TCU pitching staff has tossed the second-most shutouts (43) nationally over the last five years.

VACUUMS In two of the last four seasons, the Frogs have established a school-record fielding percentage. TCU has fielded .971 or better each of the last six years, including a school-record .979 in 2015. Over the last 4+ seasons, the Frogs have pro-duced a combined .976 fielding percentage. The Frogs have one or fewer errors in 243 of their last 330 games played.

TWO-OUT TALLIES The Horned Frogs have tallied 55 runs this season. About half of the runs (27) have come with two outs. This past weekend 12 of the 24 runs scored against Grand Canyon came with two outs, including 10 in Saturday’s win. On the season, seven Horned Frogs have tallied at least one two-out RBI. Six of those seven have at least three two-out RBIs. Austin Henry leads the way with six followed closely by Jake Guen-ther with five. Zach Humphreys and Josh Watson have four followed by Alex Isola and Johnny Rizer with three.

EXTRA, EXTRA TCU has played 62 extra inning games since 2004 and holds a 40-22 mark in those games. The Frogs went to extra innings for the fourth time in 2018 against Abilene Christian. TCU dropped a 4-2 decision in 11 innings, giving them a 9-3 record in extra innings dating back to the 2015 campaign. The 13-innings played against Min-nesota is the longest game this season. It is the most played since TCU defeated Texas A&M in 15 innings on March 4, 2016.
