The early settlements were diverse in their ethnici-ty, their goals and their government. Those early years feature amazing events and people: the country’s first gold rush, Indi-an Wars, religious upheavals, witch trials and a growing slave population. Some immigrants failed and fled back to Europe. Others stayed to create the original Thirteen Colonies.

KEN KURTZKen has helped make films, for both theatre release and on TV, over a 70-year career that began in college, where he helped make the first all-student 35mm film shown in theatres. He continued in graduate school where he “majored” in the summer film festival at New York’s famed Thalia Theatre, acted in a military training film while in the Army, and upon discharge, began a 40 year plus career in broadcasting, making and directing numerous documentaries and news series on TV. A desire to share his knowledge launched his OLLI career.
