2019 I’ve heard from quite a few members how difficult it has been to remain positive without seeing our contractor busy
at work on site. Let me assure you, all of your Board of Directors are just as frustrated and anxious to get it moving.
All I can offer is the reminder of why we’re here in the first place… to enjoy the company of like-minded people, to
have the opportunity to get to know a wonderful variety of folks from many walks of life, and to enjoy the recrea-
tion of such a great facility. Our golf course, pool, tennis courts, dock and dining were all active last year and we
start 2019 where we left off. Yes, without a Clubhouse it’s suboptimal, but the Club is really built around all of us,
and we’re a pretty resilient, resolute and resourceful cast of characters.
Here's what’s been going on:
We met with the contractor to review over 88 items that go into the Sports Center building to arrive at the first
quote. Looks pretty good but we sent them back to sharpen their pencils.
In December we held a brainstorming session to create the vision of what our Food and Beverage Services should
look like in our new Clubhouse. Now, we’re starting to implement changes to bring us up to that level.
The Golf Committee has begun exploring ways to make our Tournaments more interesting, and how to attract new
golfers and entice social members to give golf a try.
The House committee has planned a series of Events to give us chances to come together and enjoy various activi-
ties. They are also beginning the process of defining the decoration and furnishings for both the Sports Center and
Clubhouse.
The Fundraising subcommittee is starting to explore options for building finish upgrades, exercise room equipment,
upgrade options for member’s lounge outfitting, etc.
Our Business Manager is planning the seasonal staffing requirements to support this year’s camps, lessons and pool
support. There’s also the possibility of adding a Music Camp this summer in cooperation with the ACES group.
We’re exploring how our Golf Pro can also expand our youth outreach, perhaps forming a Junior League this sum-
mer.
The Finance committee is looking forward, post build, at the effect the recent membership resignations may have
on operations. Some of our members have elected not to support their Club through this challenging time. The golf
course, pool, tennis courts, dock, dining facilities, administration and other infrastructure items continue to operate
and therefore need our ongoing financial support.
We have a great location with excellent programs, events and members so the bottom line for 2019 is that we are
gaining momentum as we now start the building process.
Keep the Faith!

Guess what? Construction has begun. Jamie Hammond from
Gateway Builders is here and silt fence is being installed and
following will be the demo of the old clubhouse foundation
and sidewalk to clear the way for installation of the foundation
for the new sports center and clubhouse.
I will continue with updates and pictures along the way.
Exciting times for our ESYCC family!

Well I just got back from Florida for the PGA Show. There are a lot of new products out there. I came across a new system called Chippo. It is a variation of Cornhole. It was a lot of fun. There was also a blackjack putting green and cell phone holders for golf carts. I talked to a lot of representatives for clothing and met Nancy Lopez. The new innovation’s in golf section was amazing. There were a lot of amazing new ideas. You would not think that there would be new ideas for golf towels, however there were about five. I will be attending a rules of golf training session this month and then have a presentation ready for everyone. This has not been a good winter for golf but let us hope that it improves.
Thanks for your support,

All are welcome!
A belated Happy New Year to all!
We experienced a very wet 2018 season making it necessary to cancel several of our planned tournaments.
But, ” hope springs eternal” and we are looking forward to better golf weather in 2019.
The LGA Executive Board met January 8th to begin planning the 2019 season. We lost a few members due
to relocating but we have the promise of adding some new members. We will continue to have our ladies’
tournaments on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month with the exception of the month of May and
early June anticipating that our team will participate in the semi-finals. This is important to note. Because
the WPGA Team schedule has our team playing every Tuesday in May, the Board has decided to plan May
LGA tournaments on the second and fourth Thursday and the second Thursday in June. This really means
that only three tournaments are planned for the second and fourth Thursday. Of course, this will all be
discussed at our Opening Meeting on March 12, 2019 at 9 AM.
According to the by-laws of the ESYCC LGA, we welcome women who are members of the ESYCC with full
golfing privileges. The LGA offers the opportunity to play golf with either an 18-hole group or a 9-hole
group. If there is someone out there who has an interest or has questions, please call me at 757-789-5061.
A shout goes out to our “snow birds” who are enjoying pleasant temperatures and golf in the south. We
look forward to your return. A special note to those ladies who plan to join the WPGA, dues of $15 must be
paid before April 1, 2019. If you won’t be back for our opening meeting in March, our LGA dues are $45.
Both may be paid in one check to ESYCC LGA and sent to Carolyn Davis, P.O. Box 345, Nassawadox, VA
23413.
