A MESSAGE FROM JERILYN HEINOLD AND MARC DOHAN

Dear Members of the Shir Tikvah Community:

Every year, our annual report offers an opportunity to celebrate Shir Tikvah. We are proud of our 2019 accom-plishments and highlight six here:

• WE FLOURISHED: Last year we had 9 new families who joined our congregation, and so our school was once again full, with 168 students.

• WE WERE A SACRED PLACE: In turbulent times, our community continued to be a sanctuary for all our members, and we increased security to make our building and community safer.

• WE PRAYED: Our services nourished our souls and helped us meet our spiritual needs.

• WE HAD FUN: We camped, celebrated, socialized and sang. And our Shir Chutzpah softball team made it to the Kiddush Cup World Series.

• WE CARED FOR ONE ANOTHER: It was not all fun; and when we had to mourn or support one another, our caring committee helped us.

• WE CARED FOR THOSE OUTSIDE OF OUR COMMUNITY: We comforted the stranger, joined with other Jews and religious leaders to call for justice, and helped heal the earth.

Your time and your financial support made all this happen. Our Annual Chai campaign keeps the temple financially strong and open to all, regardless of ability to pay. This report includes the temple’s annual financial information. If you have any questions about its content, please contact Cliff Manko.

Thank you to all members of the Shir Tikvah community: our hard-working staff; our leaders, volunteers, our generous donors and you, our members.

Wishing you all a sweet and joyful new year

The financial goal of our Temple is to set dues and tuition to be as inclusive as possible, fund programs and services that reach all, and provide a religious school to teach our young. The Board and Finance Committees work very hard to achieve this in a fiscally sound manner. A breakdown of Revenue and Expenditures in FY18–19 are in the charts shown at right.

FINANCIAL GOAL

We also strive to plan for our Temple’s long term financial health by allocating funds to our endowment in years where there is an operating surplus. The market value of the endowment as of June 30, 2019 amounted to a little over $548,000. There is an Investment Committee that has oversight for management of the endowment fund and reports to the Temple Treasurer.

The Annual Chai Campaign accounts for almost 15% of the Temple’s revenue. A small group of dedicated members work each year to reach all Temple members to promote the Chai message. FY18–19 was a strong year for The Annual Chai Campaign in terms of number of donors and
