GATHER A time to meet, greet and welcome one another.

CHIMES The chimes call us to silent readiness.

PRELUDE Wenn wir in Höchsten Nöten Sein J. S. Bach Organist: Barbara C. Freund

PASTOR’S GREETING, INTRODUCTIONS AND LIFE OF THE CHURCH

CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 27 L: God is our light and our salvation; whom shall we fear? P: God is our shelter and refuge on the days of trouble, and our hope and joy on the days of celebration! L: Day after day, we seek God’s face and the assurance of His holy love: P: O God, do not turn from us or hide Your face from us! Be our guide and our light instead! L: One thing we ask of God: P: That we may live in His dwelling place all the days of our lives, and never cease to behold the beauty of His home. L: Beloved of God, enter this worship in thanksgiving, for God is among and within us! Let us worship God!

HYMN #35 Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty LOBE DEN HERREN ST. DENI (Back pgs of bulletin)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Sustainer of the weary, we know how we sang for joy when Christ came into our lives, and how we have not followed Him as He leads us on this journey. We have hidden our faces from the pain and suffering of our world. We have turned a deaf ear to the cries of the poor, the hungry, and the oppressed. We trust in our reputations and quick minds and self-importance, and not in Christ’s example ---- which would transform our lives. Forgive us, steadfast God, and shine Your face upon us. Give us courage to have the same mind as Christ, so we would know Your promises; give us courage to have the same heart as Christ, so we might serve Your children; give us courage to have the same Spirit as Christ, so we might do whatever You ask of us.

(Silence for personal confession.)

Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON L: God does not turn away when we fail to try. God does not reject us when we do not trust. God continues to love us, to forgive us, to restore us. P: It is God Who gives us courage; it is God Who saves us. He is all we need or ever will need. Thanks be to God. L: Let us stand and give glory to God!

GLORIA PATRI Hymn #579 Glory be to the Father And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, Is now, and ever shall be, World without end – Amen, Amen.

WE GREET ONE ANOTHER

ANTHEM Mercy Susan B. Boersma / Craig Courtney

I dare not lift my guilty eyes, I hide my lips in trembling shame. And in the darkness of my soul, I shrink from Your kindling flame. Kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison, have mercy. In mercy cover me with grace and blot out my iniquity.

Renew my heart and wash me clean; grant with Your pardon, purity. Kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison, kyrie eleison, have mercy.

In equal measure of Your love, You promise mercy, tender compassion to the one, Who seeks Your face, a broken heart, a fainting soul, A contrite spirit, together cry for Your forgiveness and Your grace. Against You only have I sinned, my deeds are evil in Your sight.

Of Your forgiveness let me sing, And in my singing take delight. Kyrie, kyrie eleison, kyrie, kyrie eleison, kyrie, kyrie eleison, Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy.

[Children & Youth excused for Sunday Classes.]

DOXOLOGY Hymn #592 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18 (NRSV, Pew Bible pp. 10-11)

2 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, “Do not be

afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” 2 But Abram said,

“O Lord GOD, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my

house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 And Abram said, “You have given me no offspring,

and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir.” 4 But the word of the LORD came to

him, “This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your

heir.” 5 He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if

you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants

be.” 6 And he believed the LORD; and the LORD reckoned it to him as righteousness.

7 Then he said to him, “I am the LORD who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to

give you this land to possess.” 8 But he said, “O Lord GOD, how am I to know that I

shall possess it?” 9 He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat

three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” 10 He

brought him all these and cut them in two, laying each half over against the other;

but he did not cut the birds in two. 11 And when birds of prey came down on the

carcasses, Abram drove them away.

12 As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and

terrifying darkness descended upon him…

17 When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking fire pot and a flaming

torch passed between these pieces. 18 On that day the LORD made a covenant with

Abram, saying, “To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the

great river, the river Euphrates…”

CONFESSION OF FAITH A Brief Statement of Faith Presbyterian Church (USA)

In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the One triune God, the Holy One of Israel, Whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving His life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating His sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.

HYMN #465 What a Friend We Have in Jesus CONVERSE (Back pgs of bulletin)

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION, CONCLUDING WITH THE LORD’S PRAYER

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power

And the glory, forever. Amen.

Sundays year-round at 10:15 AM, and Tuesdays during the school year from 3:30-5:30 PM in the Youth Room. For more information, contact Kelsey Claire at 928-445-4536 x110 or [email protected].

INTERSECTIONS CLASS is currently studying and discussing the book The Divine Dance: The Trinity and Your Transformation by Richard Rohr and Michael Morrell. The book discusses how a deeper conception of Father, Son and Holy Spirit can transform our relationship with God and renew our lives. All are welcome. Sundays at 9:00 AM in the Sicatuva Room.

TRINITY 4KIDS is our program for children up to 5th grade. We meet year-round on Sundays at 8:30 AM and 10:15 AM in the Children's Center (through Grace Mitchell and downstairs). Come join us for fun lessons and activities! For more information contact Jennifer Garber at [email protected] or 928-445-4536 x114.

LOBE DEN HERREN14.14.4.7.8

This very strong 17th-century German hymn employs many phrases from the psalms, especially Psalms 150and 103:1–6. It did not receive an effective English translation until the mid-19th century, but has remainedpopular ever since, thanks in part to its stirring tune.
