Evangel
Pastor Trish’s Notes
As I summarize the past month, a Bible verse comes to mind, Romans 15:7, “. . . [Welcome] one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” I appreciate your warm welcomes and the overall hospitality you have shown me. You have already blessed my life! Your invitations to the Community Meal, After 50 Club, UMW breakfast, men’s coffee, our congregations’ committee meetings, the Circles meeting, and other church ministries have introduced me to many. Your help in leading worship in our sanctuaries and at Countryside Living, and intro-ducing me to our nursing home residents and more community members still warms my heart. I also thank every-one who has attended the official Coffee and Conversation times, something I’ll continue on a monthly basis to bet-ter fit people’s schedules. During our August 5th 9:30 AM gathering in Larned and August 6th 10:00 AM gathering at the Garfield UMC, I’d liked to know what the Holy Spirit is doing in our lives, churches, and communities. Through our conversations or through notes, e-mails, or phone calls, I can’t wait to hear how God’s presence is changing lives in our area. Feel free to also share them as joys during worship. I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer, and I wish all students, teachers, staff members, and adminis-trators a great 2019-2020 school year! Let’s watch our bulletins for special Back-to-School events. In the mean-time, I’m looking forward to meeting more people during the ice cream and cake social in the evening on August 4. As I mentioned in my first newsletter article and during our worship time together, I believe ministry is part-
nerships accomplished through teamwork. I’ve definitely seen teamwork during the past few weeks. To say the
least, I’m grateful to everyone who is leading or assisting with our churches’ many ministries. Because I have fond
memories of helping with worship services as a child, I invite people of all ages to help me lead worship. For exam-
ple, if anyone would like to lead one or more of the scripture readings in any Bible translation (be the liturgist),
please let Brenda or I know. We’ll ensure that translation’s words are on the screens. Who doesn’t enjoy watching
young people and young at heart people work together? In fact, I’ve included a few photos showing the talented
people who assisted during the July 21 service. I thank Brian for leading worship that day. I thank all of you for
your hearts for Christ!

We are happy to welcome Pastor Trish to our church and show her ac-ceptance by inviting her to join us for lunch after church, drop by her office and say hello and just be a friend. We ourselves don’t have new faces to put names to but we do continue our work as stewards of this church to support it with our time, talents and offerings. Let’s remember the Pastor is not the
church…...we all are. Finance Committee Member

Well it finally cooled down and July is almost bearable, also over. Man this was a fast month. We celebrated our coun-try’s birthday, and it was a grand time here. It looks like part of the harvest is over, so I hope that you had a good turn out, good yields. We will be ready for the next go round. School will be starting up and we need to pray for our students and the teachers. Be on the look out for the kids walking to and from. I believe there is going to be some purchases for back-packs and we are going to pray over the packs, so that will be exciting. If you can find some extra pencils or note books or markers take them to the church and I am sure they will be put to use... Please pray for our country and our leaders. We all need to help out if we can. Also remember Trish as she is taking continuing her education and that it will be made easy for her. Our sick friends and the ones that are traveling. If there are any events that are going to be happen-ing this next month we will let you know in the bulle-tins. God bless you and stay safe. Be sure to check on the home bound friends and make sure that they are safe, staying cool and all. See you next month. Love Elaine

Our Fellowship Hall has become quite the busy lunch spot with kids passing between summer recreation events, parking their bikes outside in the donated rack, or coming with their friends and families to enjoy some socializing with new found "family". So blessed again are we to organize and house the Sum-mer Food Service Community Meal for the 5th year!! We are overwhelmed by the support, volunteer efforts, donations and connections made among our community through this amazing program. Although not funded by our church, holding it here and utilizing our wonderful facilities is surely a testa-ment to our love for our fellow man and a mission worth continuing and lifting up. The meals, utility costs and consumables are paid for through federal and state funds. All kids eat free regardless of residency, need or any other qualifier and adults can enjoy lunch for $3.50 Monday through Friday, 11:30AM to 12:30 PM. Wonderful noises of laughter and conversation fill the church as everyone fills their bellies and hearts. Each day this season, we fed between 30 and 180 kids and adults and enjoyed 2-6 volunteers helping with cooking, serving and connecting with the kids. Some of those volunteers came near-ly daily and have become a true blessing to several children in our community. We were honored to host the first Larned Chamber of Commerce Lunch and Learn this year with over 150 attending including several business and commu-nity leaders. Donated bottles of water assure nobody goes away thirsty and money given by generous individuals was used to purchase a new, larger freezer to be used by all. Thank you all again for your support and continued prayers in making this community mission a success. If you have questions please feel free to ask us! Thanks again and God Bless Eli and Debbie Makings
Appreciated the card very much. Jean Vratil
