1. Introduction1.1. TaekwondoCanada(TC),throughitsmembershipinWorldTaekwondowillbe

eligibletoselectathletesfortheTaipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionships(2018WTPC).

1.2. Taipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionships(2018WTPC)isscheduledtobeheldinTaipei,TaiwanfromNovember15to18,2018.

1.3. Thisdocument:

1.3.1. setsouttheprocessandrequirementforidentifyingathletesandinvitingthoseselectedtobeontheCanada2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeTeamtoparticipateatthe2018WPTC,orinvitedtobeanalternate.

1.3.2. willapplytoanyotherinternationalPoomsaecompetitions,additionalcompetitionswillbeidentifiedontheTCwebpage.

1.4. Selectionforthe2018WorldPoomsaeTaekwondoChampionshipsdoesnot

automaticallyprovidefinancialfundingforeventparticipation.

1.5. Finaldecisionsontheselectionofathletestoparticipateinthe2018World

TaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsTeamshallbemadebytheExecutiveDirectorbasedonrecommendationsbytheHPDirectorordesignate.

1.6. TaekwondoCanada’sobjectiveistoidentifytheCanadianathletestobenamedtothe2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsTeam.

2. Eligibilityrequirements2.1. Athletesmust:

2.1.1. beage12andover.

2.1.1.1. Theagelimitforeachdivisionisbasedontheyear,notonthedate,whentheChampionshipsareheld.Forexample,inJuniorDivision,contestantsshallbebetween15and17yearsold.Inthisregard,iftheChampionshipsareheldonNovember15,2018,contestantsbornbetween1January2001and31December2003areeligibletoparticipateinthisdivision.

2.1.2. BeaCanadianCitizenatthetimeof2018CanadianNationalChampionshipsregistration.

2.1.3. BeregisteredparticipantsingoodstandingofTaekwondoCanada.

2.1.4. BeKukkiwonPoomorDancertificateholders.

2.1.5. HoldavalidWorldTaekwondoGlobalAthleteLicense.

2.1.6. CurrentlybeeligibletorepresentCanadaatmajorinternationaleventsundertheeligibilityrequirementsofWorldTaekwondo,andTaekwondoCanada.

2.1.7. AdheretotheWorldAnti-DopingCode.

2.1.8. SignAthleteAgreementasrequiredbyTaekwondoCanada.

2.2. ThisprotocolissubjecttochangeiftherearechangesinitiatedbyWorldTaekwondo.

3. PoomsaeCategoriesAtthetimeofthispublication,the2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsOutlinehasnotbeenofficiallyreleased.Canadaentriestothe2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsaresubjecttotheannouncementsofthe2018WorldOutlineandupdaterules.Thisincludesnumberofcategories,regardlessofstyle,andintroductionofnewcategories.Shouldtherebearequirementtoselectathletesforadditionalnewcategoriesorforamalgamatedcategories,TaekwondoCanadawillestablishsupplementalprotocolassoonaspossible.

4. TeamCanadaRegionalTrainingCamps4.1. TobeeligibleforselectiontotheTaipei2018WorldTaekwondoChampionships

Team,invitedathletesandalternatesmustparticipateinthe2018TeamCanadaPoomsaeTrainingCamp,datestodetermined.ThisistoprovideoptimalpreparationfortheWorldTaekwondoandPanAmPoomsaeChampionships.

4.2. The2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsTeamTrainingCampsmustbeattendedregardlessofthestyleofPoomsae,andregardlessofwhetherindividual,pairorteam,RecognizedorFreestyle.

5. Taipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsTeamNationalSelectionEvent

5.1. The2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsTeamwillbeselectedatthe2018WTPCTeamselectionevent,whichwillrunconcurrentlywiththe2018CanadianNationalTaekwondoChampionships,fromFebruary15to18,2018.

5.2. AthletesmayenterinmaximumofFOUR(4)categoriesofcompetitionregardlessofstyle(Recognized,FreestyleorMix).

5.3. DrawingofLotsandRequiredPoomsae

5.3.1. ThedrawingoflotsshallbeconductedattheTechnicalmeetingonedayor2dayspriortothefirstcompetitiondayatthe2018CanadianNationalTaekwondoChampionships.

5.3.2. The2018WTPCTeamselectioneventformatofcompetitionwillbedeterminedandannouncedbytheRefereeChairduringtheTechnicalMeetingatthe2018CanadianNationalTaekwondoChampionships.

5.3.3. AlistoftherequiredPoomsaeforthe2018CanadianNationalTaekwondoChampionshipswillbeannouncedandpostedonthe2018Nationalseventpage.

6. SelectionandInvitation6.1. Theathleteswhofinish1stplaceineachoftheListofPoomsaeDivisionsatthe

2018WTPCTeamselectioneventwillbenominatedtothe2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsTeamthatwillcompeteinTaipei,TaiwanfromNovember15to18,2018.

6.2. Theathleteswhofinish2ndplaceineachoftheListofPoomsaeCategoriesatthe2018WTPCselectioneventwillbenamedasanalternate.

6.3. The1stplacewinnerswillbegivenprioritytoenterinTaipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionships.

6.3.1. Shouldthe1stplacedecline,the2ndplacewillbenominatedtotheposition.

6.3.2. Should2ndplacedecline,the3rdplacewinnerwillreceivetheinvitation,andshould3rdplacedecline,the4thplacewinnerwillreceivetheinvitation.

6.3.3. TaekwondoCanadawillnotinvitebeyondthetop4finishesineachcategory.

6.4. VacantorUncontestedTeamPosition

6.4.1. ShouldtherebeanyIndividual,PairorTeampositioninRecognizedorFreestyledivisionsthatis/arevacantoruncontestedwithnoinvitedpersons,TC,atthediscretionoftheExecutiveDirectorbasedonrecommendationfromtheHPDirectorordesignateandPoomsaeCommitteemayormaynotchoosetofillthepositionasoutlinedbelow.

6.4.2. TheExecutiveDirectorwillhavefulldiscretiontomakethedecisioninfillinganyvacantIndividual,PairorTeamposition(s)inRecognizedorFreestylePoomsaeperagecategory,inconsultationwiththeHPDirectorordesignateand2018TWPTCPoomsaeCoaches.

6.4.3. Tobeeligibleforavacantoruncontestedposition,athletesmusthavemettheselectionprotocolandcompetedatthe2018CanadianNationalTaekwondoChampionshipsinatleastonedivisionandminimumoneTeamCanadaRegionalTrainingcamp.

6.4.4. Decisionswillbemadeusingthefollowingasguidelines:

6.4.4.1. Resultsearnedatthe2018CanadianNationals.

6.4.4.2. Compatibilityandresultspotentialinpairsandteams.

6.4.4.3. PreviousNationalandInternationalResults.

7. AthleteReplacements7.1. Intheeventofawithdraworinjuryofamemberwithinaselected2018WTPC

team(RecognizedorFreestyle)theymayreplacetheirrostertothestartingnumberthatwasformedatthe2018Nationals.

7.1.1. Tobeeligibleforreplacement,athletesmusthavemettheselectionprotocol,competedandplacedintop4atthe2018CanadianNationalTaekwondoChampionshipsforatleastonecategoryandminimumoneTeamCanadaRegionalTrainingcamp.

7.1.2. Teamreplacementisnomorethan50%oftheteam.Forexample,inaRecognizedTeam,onlyONEreplacementispermitted,forFreestyleuptoTWOreplacementsarepermissible.

7.1.3. Teamreplacementissubjecttomeetingthe2018WTPCOutlinescheduleandfinalapprovalbytheExecutiveDirector,inconsultationwiththeHPDirectorordesignateand2108TWPTCPoomsaeCoaches.

7.1.4. ThenumberofcategoriesentrybyeachcontestanttotheTaipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsmaximumfour(4)categories(RecognizedPoomsaemaximum2&FreestylePoomsaemaximum2)ofcompetitionunlessheorsheislimitedbygenderorage,subjecttochangesto2018WTPCOutlinetobeannouncedin2018.

8. Lima2019PanAmGamesQualificationSelection18.1. 2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeevents,includingTaipei2018World

TaekwondoPoomsaeChampionships,2018SeniorPanAmPoomsaeChampionshipsand2018CanadianNationalTaekwondoChampionshipsresultsmaybeconsideredaspartoftheselectionprocessto2019PanAmGamesQualificationTeam.

12019LimaPanAmGamesQualificationisaseparateselectionprotocol.

9

9. GeneralRequirementstoMaintainInvitationtoTeamorasAlternate

9.1. Maintainongoingrequirementstobeeligibleforandtomaintaintheinvitation;

9.2. SigntheAthleteAgreementasrequiredbyTaekwondoCanadatocompeteatthe2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionships;

9.3. SubmitrequiredmedicalexaminationreportswhenrequestedbytheHPDirectorordesignate.Additionally,anemergencyreportistobefiledwhennecessary.

9.4. Uponrequest,provideaplanofpreparationtobecompetitionreadyfortheapprovedevents,Taipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsand,toproveappropriatecompetitivereadinessfortheseeventsthroughthesubmissionofatrainingdiary.

9.4.1. ATrainingandCompetitionPlanmayberequiredandifrequireditmustincludethefollowing:

9.4.2. Theathlete’strainingschedule,plansandtargets

9.4.3. Injurypreventionandmedicalinterventionstrategies,ifapplicable.

9.4.4. Athletesmustfile:

9.4.4.1. Amedicalfitnessreportwhenrequested;

9.4.4.2. AMedicalorEmergencyIncidentreportiftheathletesuffersaninjury,illness,ordisabilitythatmayaffectmeetingtrainingtargets,ongoingperformanceandtraining,orpreventtheathletefromcompetingintheapplicationcompetitions.

9.5. LossofInvitationorAlternateStatus

9.5.1. AnInvitationtoanathletemaybewithdrawnatanytime,evenafternotification,acceptance,orsigningofanAthlete’sAgreement,if,intheopinionoftheExecutiveDirector,theathletehasfailedto:

9.5.1.1. fulfilleligibilitytobeselectedandbeInvited(totheteamorasanalternate);or

9.5.1.2. fulfillongoingobligationsoftheathleteunderthispolicy.

9.6. FollowingteamnominationtotheTC,anysuchremovalsaresubjecttotheapprovaloftheExecutiveDirectorordesignate.

10. Exceptionalcircumstances10.1. Anathletewhodoesnotmeettheselectionprocesssetoutabovemaybe

consideredforselectionifsheorhemeetstheconditionsoftheExceptionalCircumstancesprovisions.

10.2. Shouldaninjuryorunforeseencircumstancepreventanathletefromcompetingintherequiredevents,theathletemustnotifyTaekwondoCanada,inwriting,beforetheeventwithathoroughexplanation.ThedecisiontonominatetheathletetotheTaipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsTeamwillbemadeatthesolediscretionoftheExecutiveDirectorbasedonrecommendationsbytheHPDirectorordesignate,takingintoconsiderationtheaccumulatedresultsduringtheselectionperiod,theoverallpotentialoftheathlete,andthewrittenexplanationoftheathlete’shealthstatus,recovery,andtrainingplan.

10.3. ShouldaninjuryorunforeseencircumstancepreventtheselectedathletefromcompetingontheTaipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsteam,theathletemustimmediatelynotifyTaekwondoCanadainwritingwithin10daysoftheinjury.ThedecisiontoselectanalternateisatthesolediscretionoftheExecutiveDirectorbasedonrecommendationsbytheHPdirectorordesignate.

10.4. Intheeventofaninjuredathlete,ahealthcarepractitionerlicensedinCanadacanmakethemedicalrecommendation.Shouldtherebeadifferenceofopinionamongsthealthcareproviders,theopinionofTaekwondoCanada’sdesignatedmedicalshallbeconsideredasthesoleauthoritative.

10.5. SubstitutionsafterTaipei2018WorldTaekwondoChampionshipsRegistrationEntrydeadlinearesubjecttothesolediscretionoftheExecutiveDirectorbasedontherecommendationoftheHPDirectorordesignate.

11. ApprovalandAppealProcess11.1. Finaldecisionsontheselectionandnominationofathletestoparticipateonthe

Taipei2018WorldTaekwondoPoomsaeChampionshipsTeamshallbemadebytheExecutiveDirectorordesignatebasedonrecommendationsbytheHPdirectorordesignate.

11.2. IssuesnototherwiseaddressedbythisSelectionProtocolshallberesolvedbytheExecutiveDirectorordesignatebasedonrecommendationsbytheHPdirectorordesignate.

11.3. AnydecisionrelatingtothisprotocolmaybeappealedbyanathletewhoismateriallyaffectedbythatdecisionandwhoisaregisteredparticipantofTaekwondoCanadaingoodstanding.AppealsmustbeconductedinaccordancewiththeTaekwondoCanadaAppealsPolicy.

11.4. Ifbothpartiesagree,theTaekwondoCanadaAppealsPolicycanbebypassed,andthemattercanbebroughtimmediatelybeforetheSportDisputeResolutionCentreofCanada(SDRCC)whowillthenmanagetheappealsprocess.
