Made in BC ndash Dance on Tour and the Conseil culturel et artistique francophone de la Colombie-

Britannique have initiated Des arts dehors Arts Outside a program to promote and widely disseminate francophone dance around British Columbia This program is inspired and mentored by La danse sur les routes du Queacutebec and its program JOUER DEHORS

This 3rd edition is composed of BC francophone dance artists offering short-form artistic projects adaptable to multiple public spaces and unusual places One JOUER DEHORS dance company from Queacutebec is joining them eager to open new frontiers to the West These artists bring us creative unifying and participative pieces that will engage the francophone community around dance in British Colombia

evolutionary path of the scarab

beetle ndash a species persistently

transforming and enhancing

the natural environment Dance

interaction with the public is

playful The large cylindrical objects

composing the choreography

participants to observe the

fascinating creatures from the

ground and up close

all to celebrate the regenerative role

and the mythical dimension

of this prehistoric animal

Additional options- This performance is ideal for elementary amp secondary schools and for corporate amp team-building events We can provide body percussion workshops followed by an interactive perfor-mance that uses the rhythms learned there- Interesting locations public spaces historic buildings central squares lobbies etc

TricoterTricoter re-creates the spirit

of a knitting circle The dance

winds and unwinds through

and around the public who

are arranged in the round

Yarn is integrated into the

choreography and weaves an

architecture that links public

and place to the dancer

While dancing the yarn gets

tangled in a large knot of bright

colours and the memories that

knitting occupy in our own

family history re-emerge We

experience Tricoter through

play curiosity and exploration

In the style of early 20th century

silent film Alphonse amp Lola pays

homage to the era of Charlie

Chaplin Buster Keaton and

Georges Meacuteliegraves Alphonse amp Lola

features a dancer and a fiddler

turning commonplace situations

into the laughably ridiculous

Using elements from classic

clowning jig-dancing slapstick

and pantomime the adventures

of Alphonse amp Lola are

lighthearted easy to understand

and accessible to all

Alien FormsA family of neon green forms are

scattered across a field clumped

in an urban streetscape

or tucked in amongst a forest

scene They are familiar and

strange at once Two performers

activate these lsquoalien formsrsquo

creating moving objectscapes

within the landscape We see

limbs pop out We see these

forms waddle across the yard

flop on their sides and scuttle

past The work snuggles into

yet jumps out of its landscape

It playfully explores how we

inhabit a space and is inspired

by creatures that carry their

homes with them

Following the performance the

objects remain as an invitation

for audiences to play

Les Installations Mouvantes

Using bistros libraries and public spaces of all kinds Les

Installations Mouvantes (Moving Installations) are impromptu apparitions Mimicking their table-mates or passers-by in a given area the artists drill

down to the very heart of daily situations Their gestures innocuous at first evolve into more quirky behaviours to the

point that normalcy is shattered And so the dance begins and

reality jumps into a poetic universe cups become glasses and books become birds while

spoons play unlikely countdowns This performance is a tear in the

straightjacket of everyday life
