Speech Title: Using Learning Analytics with Jupyter as A Means to Inform Learning Design

Abstract: Learning Analytics uses learner data to understand and optimize learning. In an enterprise that hosts elearning content or discussion forums, instructional designers can identify patterns of learning behaviours and adjust the instructional strategies according to the results of statistical, qualitative analyses and text analysis.

In this workshop, we will introduce some basic features of Jupyter Notebook and how to use this widely used open source web application to work with data files to perform learner data analysis in learning management platforms such as Moodle. A sample dataset will be used to illustrate a variety of data visualization functions and machine learning techniques for exploring learning behaviors to improve the impact of the learning process.

Speech Title: A Comparison Study of Consumer Behavior for On-line Sharing Economy

Abstract: Sharing economy is popular for resource sharing. On- line sharing economy can multiply the effects of their traditional counterparts. This study intends to explores the consumer behavior of on-line sharing economy, specifically in hotel industry. To that end, this study conducts several analyses to explore the relationships between the variables in the PZB model for on-line and off- line hotels, including service quality, experience, satisfaction, and repurchase intention, and to identify the differences in both relationships. In addition, this study compares the results from two research methods: structural equation model (SEM) and fuzzy set/Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA). Interesting results are delivered. The survey targets are Airbnb serving for on- line hotels and the ordinary off- line hotels, respectively. Surveys were conducted both on- line and off- line. From SEM analyses for Airbnb and off- line hotels, all the variables have significant positive impacts on satisfaction, and then satisfaction has a significant positive impact on repurchase intention. FsQCA analysis supports similar results. However, one more relationship can be found from fsQCA analysis for Airbnb. Possible explanations are given.

Speech Title: Researches in Visual Cryptography

Abstract: Visual cryptography is developed based on the need of information sharing. A secret is partitioned into n shadow images (shares), and each participant receives only one share. Once any k or more shares of a secret are stacked together, the secret image will be visually retrieved without the help of the computer. The secret image will be invisible if the number of stacked shares is less than k. This speech introduces our studies in extending the capabilities of visual cryptography for handling gray- level and color images. Besides of information hiding, applications of visual cryptography have been extended towards steganography, watermarking and progressive revealing, among others.

Speech Title: Deception Problems in e-Commerce: Determinants and Recovery Efforts

Abstract: The seller is easy to deceive the buyer in online transactions, because there is no face-to-face contact. As e-commerce has been increasing, there have found a lot of customer complaints. Most of the complaints are related to the deception by the seller. Previous studies on deception in marketing area have focused on exaggerative advertising, hard sell, and etc. In online shopping area, the study of deception has concentrated on intentional information distortion and non-delivery after payment. The study was performed to survey the consumer unsatisfactory experiences online. Key factors relating consumer, company, trade procedure, and result of the trade found to influence their perceived deception in e-commerce. Impulse buying (consumer), company reputation (corporate), unfair deal (procedure), and perceived seriousness of consequence (the result) were selected variables in the model. A survey on 531 people were performed in Korea. As a result, all independent variables have had significant impacts on the perceived deception. Among them, “unfair deal” had greatest impact. Perceived deception has had a negative effect on repurchase intention. But even though the seller deceived the buyer, the more the recovery efforts they did, the higher the repurchase intention. In other words, the seller’s recovery effort roles a moderation. First of all, the seller should deal fairly not to deceive customers, the fairness of procedure is the most important thing in e-commerce. Correct shipping and company reputation are also important decreasing the feeling of deception for customers. Finally, it should provide sufficient information so as not to purchase impulsively. And If you make a mistake and the seller shall be immediately restored every effort.

Network Effects in Facebook Harald Øverby NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway Abstract: Network effects are one of the defining properties of the digital economy. It has been shown, both in theory and practice, that network effects contribute to the growth and potential success of businesses in the digital economy. In this paper, we present a quantitative case study of network effects in Facebook for the period 2011 to 2017. We estimate the value of Facebook, and analyse how this value depends on the number of Facebook users. Our results show that there are strong network effects in Facebook, as the value per user increases more than estimations obtained from Metcalfe’s law. We also outline a general theory of the strength of network effects, and quantitatively estimate the strength of network effects in Facebook.

Analysis on Sharing Economy Development in China from the Perspective of System Resource Constraint Theory – Taking Bicycle-sharing Industry as an Example Siyuan Xing, Jianhua Zhao, Zhongchi Wan, Yinlan Chen Suzhou Dulwich International School, China Abstract: Rapid development of sharing economy not only transforms people’s understanding of traditional economy, but also plays a pivotal role in stimulating different kinds of sharing economic models in China. Among them the booming bicycle-sharing industry is a typical one. Having

witnessed three years’ fast growth, bicycle-sharing business in China is now one of the most vibrant economic phenomena which have been propelled by technological innovation and industry upgrade. With increasingly intensifying competition in this industry, bicycle-sharing companies can only survive by further fund raising, improving user experience, renewing products, and optimizing services. From the perspective of System Resource Constraint Theory (SRCT), this paper analyzes the reasons why giant players like Mobike and ofo can dominate the market quickly in less than two years and why several has-beens like Wukong Bike and Dingding Bike went out of business in 2017. A model based on SRCT is also introduced into the paper to demonstrate the five periods of the development history of bicycle-sharing industry in China. According to SRCT, since all system resources bear the characteristics of practical or potential values, the output of the system not only can depend on the system resources’ support but also can be constrained by the system resources themselves. Therefore, different levels of production technology, resources utilization, efficiency and learning ability of an organization will yield different outcomes shown as different output curves. Thus we conclude that making full use of the system resources when they are sufficient and breaking through the resources constraint with innovation when they are insufficient proved to be essential in business sustainability.

The Influence of Interactive Experience on Customer Satisfaction Based on Consumer experience Theory Pinghao Ye, Liqiong Liu, Linxia Gao and Quanjun Mei Wuhan Business University, China Abstract: Customer satisfaction (CS) is an essential factor determining the success of online clothing retailing. This document tries to analyze factors affecting CS towards online clothing shopping through a systematic study, in a bid to help online clothing retailers improve CS for higher sales. Based on the social support theory, we created a model of factors affecting CS towards online clothing shopping, and conducted a questionnaire survey to obtain customer feedback which was then analyzed through a structural equation model. The analysis results indicate that perceived convenience (PC), social relationship (SR), perceived value (PV), and information interaction (II) exerted favourable effects on CS towards online clothing shopping, and finally CS, as a mediating variable, affected customer loyalty (CL) and purchase intention (PI) positively.

The Necessity of Establishing Innovative Experimental System and facilitating FinTech Development in Taiwan from the perspective of FinTech Trend Yen-Mei Wang Feng-Chia University, Taiwan Abstract: In just a few years, many new FinTech services have emerged, changing the habits of financial consumers, especially younger generation financial consumers who rely on Internet technology. This trend has greatly changed every facet of our lives. As the insurance market becomes saturated and competition becomes harsher in Taiwan nowadays, it is facing similar problems to those in other countries, such as a long period of low-rate environment, an ageing population, the impact of the FinTech age and other challenges. Rethinking Modes of Evaluation of Market Dominant Power for Multi-Sided Platforms Sung Yoon YANG Vrije Universiteit Brussel, France Abstract: Currently as mobile internet is proliferating, multi-sided platform operators such as Google, Apple, OTT operator mediating transactions among customer groups play major role in forming market environment. Multi-sided platform can be defined as “a firm that acts as a platform and sells different products or services to different groups of customers. In this regard, traditional tools of evaluating market dominant are required to reflect multi-sidedness of the market such as

indirect network effect, existence of interdependence of demand. Thus, existing judging factors of market dominant position such as market share and entry barrier also should be modified to fit in with multi-sided market. In addition, special features of multi-sided platform market such as indirect network effects, multi-homing dynamic innovation and data should be considered in evaluating market dominant power. In this regard, I will examine some special factors for evaluating market power in multi-sided platform market and analyze relevant EU and Korea cases. In this paper, Market dominant power is closely connected with relevant market definition. In Korea, there are several cases regarding multi-sided platform cases. However in many cases, KFTC and Korean courts rely on market share in evaluating market dominant power. However, there are cases reflecting indirect network effect and market dominance leveraging theory was considered by Korean courts. As multi-sided platform business is developing continuously, competition authorities and courts are required to mirror changing market environment to secure fair competition and consumer welfare. In other words, market share and entry barrier need to be reflect indirect network effect and multi-homing. Furthermore, as the importance of personal customer data with regards to market dominance leveraging phenomenon is increasing, market dominant power of platform operators such as Google should be examined more comprehensively. In addition, in rapidly changing environment with high technological innovation, temporal dimension is required to consider in evaluating market power positively or adversely depending each market situation. In this regard, not only fair competition but also consumer welfare should be considered with paradigm shift of market.

RA 10173 and its Challenges to Philippine State Universities and Colleges’ Compliance Performance: The Case of Mindanao State University- General Santos City Lumer Jude Parreño Doce, Michelle Renee D. Ching De La Salle University – Manila, Philippines Abstract: Data privacy has become a major concern in the Philippines owing to the promulgation of Republic Act No. 10173, otherwise known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012, duly enforced by the National Privacy Commission (NPC). This study seeks to determine the level of compliance of Mindanao State University- General Santos City (MSU-GSC) as well as understand the challenges it encounters in accordance with the Data Privacy Act. Using a qualitative single holistic case study design and pattern matching technique, this paper was able to uncover how and why SUCs can comply with the RA 10173 and can apply such law in their information systems and academic processes. It was found out that MSU-GSC is qualitatively described as partially compliant and it further supports deterrence and legitimacy as its determinants. The moderating effect of compliance with RA 8792 or E-Commerce Act of 2000 also significantly affects its abidance with Data Privacy Act as efforts are continuously directed towards automating university processes and transactions. Moreover, three factors were identified that contributes primarily on the challenges of its compliance namely lack of better understanding, budgetary issues and time constraints. The study contributes to the literature by providing inputs about SUCs’ continuing efforts toward compliance with RA 10173. It is suggested NPC to diffuse responsibility to SUCs, so as compliance with data privacy act will weigh down less. Further, it is expected a greater appreciation of the law will fuel enthusiasm to overcome challenges of compliance.

Philippines, with the Caraga State University as the subject, would comply with DPA of 2012. Using a single case holistic design with common rationale, and pattern matching as an analytic technique as adapted by Yin’s method and design. This study has shown that the e-Commerce Act, another law legis lated previously, is a moderating factor in compliance with the Data Privacy Act, and that general deterrence and legitimacy of regulations has a compelling casual effect on complying with the DPA of 2012. Factors such as (1) lack of awareness, (2) lack of resources, and (3) low priority in the agenda are found to be critical factors in complying with DPA of 2012. It was also found that the Caraga State University is only partially compliant (Medium-High) to the provisions of DPA 2012.

Understanding Philippine National Agency’s Commitment on Data Privacy Act of 2012: A Case Study Perspective Vicente Aquino Pitogo, Michelle Renee D. Ching De La Salle University, Philippines Abstract: The Republic Act No. 10173 of the Philippines, also known as “Data Privacy Act of 2012” was established to protect and safeguard the personal data of its citizenry whether in public agencies or private entities, thereby creating the National Privacy Commission (NPC) in 2015, as an independent body mandated to administer the DPA of 2012, to monitor and ensure compliance to right to privacy and data protection. This qualitative research using case study technique aims to explore and explain why and how the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples will comply with R.A. 10173 as the subject of the study, and to determine the challenges and best practices encountered by NCIP relative to compliance. Using single case holistic design with common rationale, and pattern matching as an analytic technique as adapted in Robert Yin’s methods and design this study resulted to: e-commerce act is a moderating factor in compliance with DPA 2012, and the determinants of compliance, such as general deterrence and legitimacy of regulations has a compelling casual effect on complying with the law. Further, challenges that encountered by the agency was also a factor in compliance with R.A. 10173 such as, (1) lack of awareness, (2) resource constraints, (3) organizational structure and (4) low priority agenda. It is further recommended to conduct a follow-up study once the recent ISSP is available, vis-à-vis to March 8, 2018 extended deadline.

Passengers’ willingness to pay for shared-ride taxis Li-Yen Chang, Wan-Tung Ho, Da-Jie Lin National Chiayi University, Taiwan Abstract: Taiwan high speed rail (THSR) was first operated in 2007. It has become one of the major transportation systems for intercity travel in Taiwan. Although the ridership of THSR has been increasing since 2007, the growth rate is far from it originally planned. One of the reasons is that most of the THSR stations are located far from the downtown area, which makes the traveling to/from THSR stations difficult. In case of Chiayi City, Taiwan, there are three common ways for the passengers to get to Chiayi THSR station including private vehicles, bus rapid transit (BRT) and taxis. Taxi provides the efficient way to get to Chiayi station, but its fare makes it not quite popular. Therefore, there is an increasing need to find an efficient mode to/from THSR stations so that the ridership of THSR can be further increased. To achieve this goal, shared-ride taxis could be an alternative. To make shared-ride taxis acceptable to most of the THSR passengers, reasonable fare is the key factor. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to apply Contingent Value Method (CVM) to estimate the willingness to pay (WTP) for the shared-ride taxis for THSR passengers and identify the factors affecting the values of WTP. The result shows the respondents’ WTP for the 2-person shared-ride taxi service is 221 NT$. The results also indicate that the respondents used to taking taxi to/from THSR station and the respondents with experience of taking shared-ride taxi are willing to pay more. The respondents with trip purpose of business, frequent THSR users, and motorcycle owners tend to pay less for the shared-ride taxi services.

A Bivariate Causality between Economic Growth and Property Price: Hong Kong Evidence Koon Nam Henry Lee City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Abstract: This study aims to investigate the cointegration and causality relationships between gross domestic product and property price in Hong Kong from 1980 to 2017. In contrast to other studies, the cointegration test used is the autoregressive distributed lagged (ARDL) cointegration (bounds testing) approach of Pesaran that based on the estimation of an unrestricted error correction model (UECM) and the causality test is based on non- causality test of Granger. The selection of Pesaran cointegration approaches instead of Johansen approaches address the problem of how to use a relatively small sample data to estimate the long-term relationship and the direction of causality between gross domestic product and property price that faced by many researchers in estimating the cointegrating relationships between gross domestic product and property price. results of ARDL cointegration tests running from gross domestic product to residential and office property markets and vice versa provide strong evidence to support the hypothesis that the gross domestic product and residential and office properties are cointegrated . The results of Granger non causality test support to the view of wealth and collateral effect that property price has an important causal affect to economic growth in Hong Kong. The empirical results from cointegration and causality tests suggest that the economic growth are better predicted by including the lagged difference values of residential and office property price.

The Rising and Falling of Startup Companies: Market-Sensing Capability, Innovation Capability, and Organizational Inertia Yann-Jy Yang Chihlee University of Technology, Taiwan Abstract: Some high tech companies earn attention and profit from market since they satisfy consumers by using new technology to provide innovative products/service. However, after a long time dominance in the market, they may begin to decline because other newcomers provide innovative products/service. The history repeat again: The newcomers beat the market dominant by the same approach that the market dominant beat former market dominant. A successful new start-up catch the unsatisfied need of customers by providing technology-enabled new products/service. These successful start-up are with market-sensing capability and technology innovation capability. However, when they are successful become market dominants, they earn benefit from market share and economic scale. After the start up become the market dominant, customers choose their products/service not only because of technology innovation, but also their market share. When a disruptive innovation emergently appear, the disruptive innovation may displace established market, which may shake the existed business model that the dominant company depend on. The dominant company may ignore the request for new products/service due to organizational inertia and the afraid of displacing established business model. This provide start-up an opportunity to provide innovation products/service to satisfy customers.

A Resource Allocation Method using a Non-parametric Approach Nobuyuki Tachibana, Susumu Kadoya, Tomohiro Noguchi and Takashi Namatame BrainPad Inc., Japan Abstract: Efficient budget plans are increasingly becoming important in mature developed countries, and the market mix model (MMM) plays an important role. We propose a new MMM methodology using a non-parametric approach that can be applied to a non-convex shape frontier. The Free Disposal Hull (FDH) is known to be applicable to a non-convex frontier, but the FDH frontier surface is stair-like stepwise. Thus, when we assume a monotonically increasing output with respect to increases in the input, the stepwise surface is inadequate for a sales response function for advertisement. The smoothing technique of the FDH frontier that we propose improves the performance in terms of budget optimization.

Benchmarking intellectual capital performance of logistics companies using analytic network process: A conceptual framework Ratapol Wudhikarn, Gilles Neubert and Nopasit Chakpitak College of Arts, Media and Technology, Chiang Mai University, Thailand Abstract: This research aims to propose an innovative benchmarking approach by concentrating on the rarely evolved topic that is the hybrid of logistics and intellectual capital (IC) management. The consideration of logistics integrated by IC has been still highly underdeveloped either in academic or commercial perspective, even though these two methods have been recognized for several years. Most of relevant studies separately focused on each composition of IC, whereas the overall or complete consideration on IC elements in logistics is substantially rare. Therefore, in order to manage with this hybrid issue, this research suggests a novel approach to benchmarking all IC performance in logistics using analytic network process (ANP).

Chinese Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth in West Africa: evidence from Pooled Mean Group mode Kankou Hadia Fofana, Enjun Xia, and Mamadou Bado Traore Beijing Institute of Technology, China Abstract: Over the last decade, diverse efforts have been deploy in place by various governments of the developing economies to attract more inward China FDI and accelerate its economic growth remains one of the most important issues in the economic debates. Many empirical works support the impact of Chinese FDI flows on economic growth, but some do not. West Africa, high poverty, non-existing markets, low savings and terrorism-torn economy and political crisis, countries may find in FDI an important and potential source of finances. Therefore, this paper is attempts to evaluate the long-run and short-run relationships between China FDI and economic growth of West Africa by using Pooled Mean Group (PMG) models over the period of 2003–2015. The Pooled Mean Group results provide strong evidence on the significantly positive effects of China FDI on West Africa’s economic growth (real GDP per capita). However; the causality results suggest that China FDI hasn’t causal effects on West Africa ‘economic growth. This can be concluded that an additional investment for Chinese investor and technology transfer is sufficiently supported in West Africa.

Technological innovation is a special kind of investment which can help companies to overcome the limitations of the law of marginal returns and break the stalemate in the production efficiency. By sorting out the economic consequences of non-financial information quality and the effect of technological innovation on research literature both at home and abroad, it has been found that few people have studied the relationship between the quality of non-financial information and the technological innovation of enterprises. The research on the relationship between the two helps to expand and deepen the research on the economic consequences of non-financial information which will help to enrich and develop the theory of economic growth.
