XXXI SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Sunday, November 4, 2018 Year B

God’s command for us is to love; first to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and then to love our neighbours as ourselves. Jesus calls these the two greatest commandments. These are not easy commands. They require that we put God and others above our own wants and desires. In today’s first reading, we hear Moses reminding us to observe the commandments of our Father, especially to love God first. In the second reading, we see Jesus as the perfect sacrifice who has redeemed us. And in today’s Gospel, Jesus adds the second of the two greatest commandments: to love your neighbor as yourself.

MASS IN THE INTENTION OF ALL PARISHIONERS WHO DIED THIS PAST YEAR will be celebrated on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m.

XXXII SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Sunday, November 11, 2018 Year B

All throughout Scripture, God cares for those who suffer and are vulnerable: physically, emotionally and spiritually. The greatest sign of God’s care is in the gift of his Son, Jesus, who removed the power of sin through the sacrifice of his own life. The Church now stands as the body of Christ, caring for others and showing them God’s mercy, which is unsurpassed.

In the first reading, the widow whom Elijah encountered was able to eat for a year. The author of the Book of Hebrews says that Christ will bring salvation to those who eagerly await him. In the Gospel, Jesus speaks of the poor widow who gave generously.

SHARING GOD’S GIFTS APPEAL 2018: Goal for Year 2018: $ 41,430.00 Parish Assessment for Year 2018: $ 65,270.00 Total owing for Year 2018: $106,700.00 To date we have collected: $ 26,821.00 We are appealing for your support for this Archdiocesan Appeal. The goal established for our parish by the Archdiocese of Winnipeg is our obligation and must be paid in full at year end. We are appealing to those who have not yet participated for your understanding and support for this cause. It is very difficult for our parish to absorb this entire cost as we must also pay $65,270 for our assessment. We understand this is a huge undertaking for all parishioners, however, if each family would participate with a minimum $10.00 monthly donation, we would be able to succeed. We ask to see in your hearts to help us in our appeal.
