PARISH RADIO PROGRAM has been broadcast for many years on CKJS 810 AM Radio. Each month we must pay $1,333.00 which is $16,000.00 annually. EASTER CORRESPONDENCE with the Easter Programs, wishes as well as the Palm Sunday Tea raffle books will be handed out Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11 in our parking lot foyer following the Masses. We are reminding all those who receive a raffle book to please return your book—even if you decide not to purchase it. Those who do not receive a book and would like one are asked to contact our parish office or the Catholic Women’s League and a book will be issued to you. As we are under the Liquor Gaming Authority of Manitoba for our raffles, we are obligated to ensure all books are returned or we risk cancellation of future raffles. Each year, we have to call many parishioners who receive a book but do not return them. We ask for your understanding and cooperation.

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

Sunday, February 18, 2018 Year B

Repent and believe in the Gospel! These sound like simple words from our short Gospel today. But it is fitting that Jesus begins his earthly ministry with this powerful message after the Spirit descended upon him at his baptism. He asks us to believe in the Gospel and embrace its message of humble service and discipleship. In the reading from Genesis, God establishes a covenant with Noah, declaring the rainbow as the reminder to all his people. In the second reading, we hear that the eight who had been saved by the water in the story of Noah prefigure our baptism which saves us now.

LENT - the season in which we prepare joyfully for the mystery of Easter with minds and hearts renewed. Our Lenten observances: fasting, prayer and almsgiving during the 40 days of Lent help us to refocus our attention on God, to restore our relationship with God, and to recommit our lives to God. The Season of Lent began on Ash Wednesday and concludes before the evening mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday.

LENTEN DEVOTIONS: STATIONS OF THE CROSS: in our Church every Friday at 5:30

p.m. in Polish; First Friday of the month at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. in English (There will not be Stations of the Cross on the first Saturday of the month).

GORZKIE ZALE (Lenten Lamentations): Sundays at 5:30 p.m.

PARISH LENTEN RETREAT – will be facilitated by Fr. Pawel Ratajczak, OMI and we are inviting everyone to participate in the three days of the Retreat which have been prepared by Fr. Ratajczak. These Retreats are to help us reflect and prepare for the Easter Triduum and for the Celebration of the Resurrection of the Risen Christ. The schedule for the Retreat is as follows: March 2 6:30 p.m. Stations of the Cross (English) 7:00 p.m. Mass (English) with Lenten homily March 3 5:00 p.m. Mass with Lenten homily 6:00 p.m. Meeting with the missionary March 4 9:30 a.m. Mass with Lenten homily On Friday. March 2, the Evening Mass will be celebrated in the English language.

PARISH LENTEN RETREAT in the Polish language will be facilitated by Fr. Tomasz Ewertoski, OMI from March 11-14.

FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH - March 2. We invite all to participate in Stations of the Cross at 6:30 p.m. followed by Mass at 7:00 p.m. Confessions will be heard one hour before Mass begins. On this day, there will also be visitation of the sick and elderly as per schedule. If there is someone you would like a priest to visit, please call our parish office and their names will be placed on the list.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT is in our Chapel every First Friday of the month following the Evening Mass.

DEVOTIONS ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH - March 3 at 4:00 p.m. in our Church in Polish. We invite all to participate.

THEATRE GROUP - is inviting all children, youth and adults for help in the preparations for an Easter Play in the Polish language. They are in need of actors, decorators, musicians, seamstresses and anyone else who would like to help. - they will find something for everyone. Call Malgosia at 204 504-8953 or our parish office. First rehearsal will be Sunday, February 18 following the Mass at 11:30 a.m.

Today, we hear the familiar passage from Saint Paul when he says, If God is for us, who can be against us? Since we have been called by name, by virtue of our baptism, we know that we are God’s children; we are his instruments in the world. In the first reading, Abraham is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice of surrendering his son to the Lord. Saint Paul reminds the Romans that having God with them will allow them to face any challenge.
