Collaboration or Collusion: Defining the Boundaries for Buyer-Supplier
Relationships
Keynote session with Boeing, University of Tennessee and Morgan Lewis

the line? This panel will explore various perspectives and acceptable practices for highly
collaborative relationships. Both buyers and suppliers will learn from a diverse panel how to
use the right practices to build stronger and more collaborative teaming environments.
The panelists will discuss:
▪ Various collaboration efforts buyers and suppliers are using to create a more
collaborative environment - both during the bidding process and post-contract
▪ Perspectives on what collaboration efforts might be seen as "crossing the line"
▪ The laws, regulations and resources you can turn to for guidance
How Relevant Will Sourcing and Procurement Be in 2020?
Keynote session with Capital One, Russell Investments and VSP Global

accomplished today
▪ The tools and technologies we should be embracing
SIG 2018 Fall Summit, Rancho Mirage, CA Session Details

Sourcing Unfiltered: An Uncensored CPO Panel Discussion
Keynote session with GuideWell, Honda & PwC (buy-side)
Have you ever wondered how a CPO is wired? Have you tried to envision how they prioritize
corporate goals and then properly align organizational objectives…or how they build
relationships across the enterprise? Join this highly interactive session with four of the most
active—and provocative—Chief Procurement Officers in the SIG community. This is your
chance, as practitioners, advisors, consultants or providers, to ask these visionaries for their
experienced (and frank) opinions on topics of your choosing. If you would like to submit
questions to the panelists beforehand, please email them to Mary Zampino at SIG.

and successfully complete a program audit of your own.
▪ You will learn:

How a Progressive Program including Self-Sourcing Delivered Millions in Savings
over Two Years
A Case Study Presentation with CDK Global and PRO Unlimited
This case study illustrates how an organization transitioned to a vendor-neutral and
integrated MSP/VMS solution, and as a result, increased headcount by 30% and achieved
millions in savings. Organizations using a private talent network to self-source workers typically
realize a significantly lower mark-up than agency recruited workers (~20% or more savings on
every order). And, client managers typically rate self-sourced workers with consistently higher
quality scores than other types of workers sourced. In this session, you will hear how a self-
sourcing strategy can drive the direct sourcing of talent, reduce costs and increase
headcount.
You will learn:
▪ How to build, implement and curate a private talent network
▪ How to realize significantly lower mark-ups with self-sourcing than staffing agency-
supplied workers (capture savings as high as 20% or more)
▪ How to reduce time to fill and realize higher worker and hiring manager satisfaction
▪ How to leverage a strong client brand in local areas
The Winding Road Through Resource Utilization Strategies
A Case Study Presentation with GuideWell
In a service-oriented business, there is nothing more important than hiring well for business.
This session will focus on resource utilization and the various paths that business partners
select to find the right talent yet maintain compliance. We will highlight our approach to
HR/Procurement/Business Unit partnerships, inclusion of key business stakeholders in
enterprise-wide RFx process, and communicating difficult information to key suppliers. We
hope this interactive session will challenge the way you think about the role Procurement
plays in staffing strategies.
You will learn:
▪ How we used our past to improve our future
▪ How to use interdisciplinary teams to change enterprise rules of engagement and
processes
▪ Outcomes that can save you time and money
What Can Go Right (and Wrong) with Third-Party Due Diligence?
A Case Study Presentation with PG&E and LexisNexis
Working with third parties continues to be the single biggest corruption risk for business. Yet,
despite the clear risk, it remains one of the hardest anti-corruption areas to get right. Studies
SIG 2018 Fall Summit, Rancho Mirage, CA Session Details
show that almost two-thirds of due diligence procedures were graded as inadequate. Is your
business doing enough?
You will learn:
▪ How to prioritize your third parties
▪ How to obtain reliable data
▪ How to deal with red flags
Enterprise Success: Strategic Sourcing in the Age of Collaboration
A Case Study Presentation with Adobe and ScoutRFP
Rising globalization. Intense competition. High customer expectations. Rapid change. These
are just a few of the challenges (and opportunities) that we face in today's business world.
Now more than ever, it's absolutely crucial to execute sourcing, procurement, and supply
chain management to a highly strategic and high performing degree. To rise to these
challenges - and grasp the opportunities they present - sourcing leaders today must reform,
automate, educate, and, ultimately, work seamlessly with business stakeholders to achieve
truly strategic sourcing. In this session, learn how to easily execute successful cross-team
collaborative sourcing plan.
You will learn:
▪ How to dismantle barriers to collaboration
▪ How to increase business impact down to the bottom line
▪ How to foster seamless communication
How to Build a Case to Acquire an eProcurement Tool
A Case Study Presentation with Thirty-One Gifts and Scanmarket
You know you need an eProcurement tool to be more efficient and effective…but
sometimes the biggest hurdle is convincing your stakeholders that it is a win-win for them as
well. This session will give you practical tips for getting support from your stakeholders, and will
provide a case study on how to pick an eSourcing vendor while simultaneously building the
financial case on the buy side.
You will learn:
▪ How to build a case that shows need over want
▪ Successful tips for gaining buy-in from stakeholders
▪ Why you should choose a strategic partner rather than "just a vendor"
▪ About the before, during and after of the upstream process
Feel the Brand: Sourcing Corporate Services for the Digital Age
A Case Study Presentation with Cushman & Wakefield and Canon Business Process Services
SIG 2018 Fall Summit, Rancho Mirage, CA Session Details
Digitization has reshaped businesses - and the millennial workforce is driving demand for a
workplace environment typically seen only in newer tech firms. Will your Corporate Services
and amenities deliver the workplace experience demanded by this incoming millennial
generation? Unlike Corporate Services of old that were hidden in the basement, new
workplace services are visible, interactive and expected to create an experience that
motivates millennials and others to choose going to the office over working from home.
Industries like financial services, manufacturing, insurance and healthcare recognize the
threat of not having the right workplace environment and are working hard to reinvent their
Corporate Services. This session will look at how companies are transforming their corporate
atmosphere, and will share relevant sourcing and procurement considerations from vendor
evaluation to SOW and pricing.
You will learn:
▪ What amenities are most important in Corporate Services
▪ How to blend physical and digital services, skills and onsite and offshore resources to
maximize service value
▪ Strategies and options for reducing costs
▪ The SOW and operational KPIs necessary to ensure the operational and financial
performance you expect
Moving from Strategic to Transformational Sourcing
A Case Study Presentation with Russell Investments
In this session, the presenters will show how they brought additional value to category
management, in year four and five of the category. Attendees will learn how to transform a
normal strategic sourcing practice to transformational sourcing with new tools. We will
discuss where you can utilize transformational sourcing methods and explore
transformational sourcing toolkits, so bring your questions, concerns and an open mind for
how to upgrade your strategic sourcing organization.
You will learn:
▪ How to obtain authorization for a transformational sourcing approach
▪ The benefits of transformational sourcing
▪ How to develop team skill sets
Our Journey to Trusted Advisor: The Path to Procurement Evolution at VSP Global
A Case Study Presentation with VSP Global
VSP Global has taken a customer centric approach to strategic sourcing not only in how we
engage and service our internal customer, but also how we enable them to drive the right
business outcomes using proven strategies to: mitigate risk; enhance value through better
business outcome negotiations; drive deal speed; and collaborate with our stakeholders. We
SIG 2018 Fall Summit, Rancho Mirage, CA Session Details
address our challenges, approaches and wins but avoid typical discussions around
enforcing compliance, managing transactions and working through red tape. Join this
session so you can learn how to follow the path from order taker to trusted advisor.
You will learn:
▪ How to navigate stakeholder challenges
▪ Where to invest and get ROI from people, process and technology
▪ How to align with the business and deliver results
▪ Yes, how to become a trusted advisor
Puzzled by Transformation? A Blueprint for Putting the Pieces Together
A Case Study Presentation with Black Hills Energy
The road to transformation is long and oft-traveled but is not always straight and narrow. This
session will cover Black Hills Energy's three-year journey, which followed a major acquisition
and included a complete shift in strategic approach. Delegates will learn how to connect a
company's mission and values to strategy, develop resources and complete key strategic
projects to achieve real results. Those responsible for aligning Supply Chain's operating
model and managing stakeholder expectations during a transformation will benefit from this
session.
You will learn:
▪ How to ensure everyone on your team understands and embraces the strategic direction
and intent of the organization
▪ How to ensure the Supply Chain operating model can both "run" and "transform" in a
resource constrained environment
▪ How to find and provide solutions to common problems businesses face after an
acquisition and pivot to a new strategic approach
Ask the Experts: How to Keep Your Team Passionate, Engaged and Motivated
A Panel Discussion with Adobe, REI, Starbucks and Denali-WNS
We hear it from our clients, friends and peers - procurement organizations are struggling to
keep teams motivated and passionate. We are continually overtasked and
underappreciated; we need to do more with less; we are taking on increased strategic
responsibility; and we don't have the support necessary to succeed. Furthermore, our teams
are often demotivated, disengaged and have one foot out the door. In this panel, we will
bring together a cross section of industry leaders to help you solve your specific issues
concerning:
- maintaining a positive team culture
- retaining and nurturing talent
SIG 2018 Fall Summit, Rancho Mirage, CA Session Details
- ensuring your operating model is optimized for success
Bring your questions, big and small and let us solve them! Join this session to interact, listen
and learn best practices for keeping teams motivated to embrace the challenges ahead.
Email Mary Zampino at SIG if you have a specific situation you would like the panel to
address.
Casting a Wider Net: Financial Risk in the Supplier Lifecycle
A Case Study Presentation with Caterpillar and RapidRatings
The world's leading companies leverage all that the global supply chain has to offer -
understanding what they do best, and knowing when they need to call on another
company's expertise to fill in the gaps. Engaging in such a flexible and agile global supply
chain ecosystem, however, is a challenge that requires full visibility into the supplier lifecycle
to maintain a competitive edge and mitigate risk. Learn how bringing financial viability to
the forefront of supplier risk management can build a more cohesive strategy across all
business areas and enable you to get a pulse on your supplier network.
You will learn:
▪ The value of financial health transparency and how to use it to build better business
relationships and drive the risk mitigation process
▪ How building a common language across business units and the lifecycle of suppliers can
make risk management more economical and efficient
Procurement and Marketing: Maximizing Value Through Trust, Collaboration
and Transparency
A Case Study Presentation with SC&H
Marketing has the potential to directly impact revenue and is one of the primary ways that
companies communicate with their customers. So it is not unusual for agency expenses to be
one of the largest areas of indirect spend. Naturally, executives want to ensure company
investments with agencies are managed effectively. Enter Procurement. While Procurement
and Marketing are both working towards increasing profits, the means by which this goal is
achieved can differ. Procurement is often focused on reducing costs, while Marketing is
usually more concerned with the quality of campaigns. Both approaches are critical to a
company's success and do not need to be mutually exclusive. This session will show
delegates how to achieve a mutually beneficial relationship between Procurement and
Marketing with trust, collaboration and transparency.
You will learn:
▪ Why agency transparency has become a priority for advertisers
SIG 2018 Fall Summit, Rancho Mirage, CA Session Details
▪ How risks can differ when working with small, independent agencies versus agency
holding companies
▪ How to recognize non-transparent business practices and contracts
▪ How Marketing and Procurement can improve collaboration during agency negotiations
▪ How to communicate effectively with Marketing stakeholders and agencies
▪ How Procurement can help Marketing improve relationships with agencies while
optimizing ROI on agency spend
Using Innovation and Collaboration to Address Third Party and GDPR Risk
A Case Study Presentation with Accenture and Opus
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has organizations across the globe investing

Innovations in Talent:
Self-Sourcing and Talent Pools
Beeline
The biggest challenge companies face today is to build an agile workforce of top-tier talent
to compete and succeed in an on-demand world. To meet this need, companies have
expanded their use of non-employee, contingent talent, but in doing so have run into
problems. To cut costs, simplify talent searches and reduce the time to fill open positions,
Beeline combined advanced technology and a combination of private and public talent
pools to create the industry's first fully integrated system for self-sourcing contingent talent.

University of Tennessee
SIG 2018 Fall Summit, Rancho Mirage, CA Session Details
UT wanted a way to bring the Vested sourcing business model to life beyond a traditional
classroom and online courses. The solution? We "flipped" the conventional learning model on
its head to be not only be "real time" but to enable "RealPlay®" vs. role-play. Now a buyer-
supplier team takes an online course together at their own pace. They use the toolkit
provided with the course to work on a real deal in real time, taking a module to "learn" and
then completing deliverables to "do" in real time. Their "homework" is their contract. And if
they want a helping hand they can work with a regional/local Center of Excellence.

Customer Of Choice Project
Florida Blue
Florida Blue created processes to assess, monitor and mitigate supplier risk across a diverse
supply chain. Despite these processes, we witnessed issues with supplier failure and lack of
innovation. Our goal was to revise the supplier relationship process from the ground up,
continue to meet regulatory requirements and become a customer of choice. This
transformation implemented HUB relationship management, Sourcing Business Models,
enhanced due diligence and supplier lifecycle monitoring. Although our initial desired
outcome centered around risk management, other improvements included reductions in

Denali - A WNS Company
A client that historically focused on supporting top line projects for growth and innovation
recently increased bottom line savings goals and needed more fire power. The client
engaged a flexible partner and implemented a hybrid operating model to support sourcing
and category management. The client identified "cultural fit" as one of the key project risks
and worked with Denali to demonstrate that the "chemistry" was positive prior to
implementation. Denali's dedicated team works at Client HQ, providing sourcing, analytics,
and project support across Direct and Indirect categories. The integrated team exceeded
the FY17 savings targets and developed a healthy pipeline for FY18 - on track to exceed
goals for FY18.
Innovations in Sourcing:
Sourcing is Dead to Me
HERE Technologies
We were not strategic with our approach to global sourcing and customers complained
about how difficult it was to do business with HERE. This had to change. We focused on three
tenants - operational excellence, transformation and innovation. Our strategy: drive savings
while generating new ideas and introducing technology that would streamline and
automate our processes. A renewed energy and focus can be seen throughout the
organization. We are now recognized as a trusted partner across the company based on our
outcomes.

Transforming Big Blue: Leveraging Procurement Professionals with Data Driven Decisions
IBM
IBM has suffered to capture value from procurement data. With various structures of
spreadsheets from suppliers, customized part numbers, ambiguous descriptions and lot
priced packages, the procurement organization has faced an uphill battle when trying to
derive value from spend. We launched an initiative to develop insights from historical spend
and market intelligence. From dashboards to visualize the data, to chatbots which allow the
user to negotiate insights through natural language, the flexibility of the tools adapt to the
category in order to provide optimal impact. We have been able to drive invoices against
contracts to find anomalies and over charges, fluctuations in discount percentages, and
leverage historical trends in spend against market values in order to achieve year one cost
take out in excess of $50M over the past year.

Global Sourcing and Procurement Project
Russell Investments
At Russell Investments the Global Sourcing and Procurement (GSP) function had been
centralized and professionalized the first four years, but we haven't touched the direct
spend. Historically, the sourcing and negotiation of these agreements are done by the
portfolio managers (PMs), in which the PM selects the best supplier, negotiates prices and
executes the contract. In close partnership with the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), GSP
completely redesigned the procurement process for the investment advisor spend. We
developed a 12-month RFP pipeline, with clear roles and responsibilities, a playbook and
training. The new process is fully adopted and has been used globally for the last two years.

VSP Global
VSP Global's Corporate Procurement and Travel division was tasked with taking an
aggregated view of purchasing opportunities and drive better business outcomes. The group
developed the Spend It Like Its Yours (SILIY) campaign that included an intensive change
management approach utilizing a mascot, campus signage, video vignettes and face-to-
face meetings across all levels of business partners. The group hired talent into the team and
invested in training and development across all facets of procurement; and invested in the
tech stack to ensure our P2P operations, Spend Analytics and Contracts Management
solutions enabled this transformation. Operating without a mandate, the team focused on
creating value for our customers and driving early engagement on procurement needs.

All Aboard! How Microsoft Procurement Transformed Supplier Onboarding
Microsoft
Microsoft Procurement Operations is directly impacting topline revenue growth and bottom
line savings by reinventing the process for onboarding new suppliers. The process, which
previously required seven different tools, has been streamlined into one platform built on
Microsoft Dynamics 365. By leveraging technology for tasks such as data collection,
reporting and rate card negotiations, 95% of the required activities have been fully
automated for targeted segments of Microsoft's supplier portfolio. As a result, Microsoft has
reduced onboarding cycle time from 22 days to one, eliminated $2M in full time resource
hours, reduced vendor staff, and achieved 15% savings.

A Tale of Two Catalogs: How Microsoft Procurement Drove Both Savings and Satisfaction
Microsoft
Microsoft's Product Catalog facilitates purchases of pre-approved goods for employee use.
The tool was functional, but not user-friendly. Users struggled to find the products they
SIG 2018 Fall Summit, Rancho Mirage, CA Session Details
needed, were forced to navigate multiple sites and were required to complete a multi-page
form for every purchase. Microsoft implemented a completely new Catalog experience in
which satisfaction increased, transaction time was reduced and the company realized $2M
in annual savings while enabling easy and compliant buying.
Innovations in Governance:
MyOrder Simplified
Microsoft
Microsoft's global purchase order (PO) platform, MyOrder, supports nearly 350,000 POs and
$26B in spend annually. The tool was designed to drive policy and review compliance, but
not designed for ease of use. Users were burdened by financial coding and compliance
elements, while also confused by a complex interface and submission process. Procurement
led cross-functional collaboration across global teams to redefine reviewer roles, establish
consistent SLAs, and streamline compliance checks to help decrease turnaround time. The
result is a simplified experience, unnecessary clicks are eliminated, time to create is reduced
and user satisfaction is up.

General Electric
Through the creation of a single supplier master data portal, GE simplified the supplier
onboarding process. This centralization drives increased compliance through a single entry
point and puts supplier data in the hands of the supplier, reducing GE's risk for phishing
attempts. To date, the portal has 45,000 suppliers onboarded, a ~50% reduction in supplier
base due to data cleanup of duplicate and inactive suppliers.
