Policies & Procedures Update

1. Get your influenza vaccination2. Cover your cough with your elbow, not your hand3. Wash and dry your hands often4. Keep your hands away from your face

Facts About Influenza• The most common way to transmit influenza is “indirectly.” This

means a person with influenza coughs or sneezes on a surface or coughs/sneezes in their hands and then touches a surface. For example, a shelf ata grocery store. Another person then touches the surface or object thathas influenza germs on it and then touches their own mouth or nose. So,remember to wash your hands often and keep your hands away from yourface!

• You are contagious before you ever develop symptoms. Most healthyadults may be able to infect others beginning one day BEFORE symptomsdevelop and up to five to seven days AFTER becoming sick. Children maypass the virus for longer than seven days. Symptoms start one to fourdays after the virus enters the body. That means that you may be able topass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick as well aswhile you are sick. Some people can be infected with influenza, but haveno symptoms. During this time, those people may still spread the virus toothers.

• The flu shot is the best way to teach your own immune system to fightback if exposed to the virus.

Mark your calendars: Flu Clinics for Allen team members are scheduled for Oct. 16-20, 23 and 25-27. Times and meeting rooms to be determined. More information coming soon.

Flu season is on its way! What is the best way to prevent yourself from getting sick and spreading it to others?
