CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE 2018

As Club Captain it gives me tremendous pleasure to welcome you all for a great year’s golf during 2018.

The opening day of the Golf Club was 30th July 1993, and I know that Kathy Dodson feels privileged and proud to carry the mantle of Lady Captain as it is 25 years since her father became a founder member of the Club.

Recognitionmustbemadefortheongoinghardworkandenthusiasmwhich our club professional, Brian Mudge, has shown in developing the JuniorSection.KathyandIwillbeworkingwithBrianandsupportingCameron Reeves our Junior Captain to encourage junior members to develop their skills and enjoy more interclub success.

For many of us I know the highlight of 2017 was Baylie Pyke, aged just 13, being selected to train with England Girls Under 16’s.Thisyear’sCaptainoftheSeniorSectionisDaveBright.OurSeniorSectionis thriving and I look forward to working alongside and playing with you during the year.

KathyandIhavechosentofundraisefor2organisationsduring2018.Firstly, Overstone Park Golf Scholarship, which was established in 2016 to encourage young people who might not otherwise get an opportunity to play golf. These youngsters are coached and equipped by Brian. Half of theCaptains’CharityFundwillcontinuetosupportthisalongwithgrantsupportfromHSBCGolfFoundation.

The other charity, selected by Kathy, is The Lowdown Young People’s Charity. BasedinNorthampton,thischaritygivesfreeandconfidentialcounsellingto children and young people aged 12 -25. They provide a wide range of counselling from bereavement to abuse and bullying but to name a few.

Behind the scenes at OPG we have a happy band of volunteers who put inregularshiftstoorganisethe137+golfeventswhichareplayedeachyear by our members. Then from the member’s pool - male and female – junior and senior – a large number of us get the opportunity to play for ourrepresentativeteamswhichinturnareorganisedbyanotherbandofvolunteersandCaptains.Ithanktheseorganisersinanticipationofwhattheywill do for us all throughout 2018 and ask the members in general take the timeovertheyeartoalsogivethemapatontheback.Withoutyourenergy,OPG would not be the thriving and inclusive Golf Club we all enjoy.

Dress RulesClean, smart dress shall be worn on the course and in the clubhouse as appropriate. Shirts or golf tops must be tucked into waistbands.

In the lounge bar, golf clothing, which are wet, dirty or otherwiseshowing signs of recent use on the course must not be worn.

TheChartbelowshowsdressthatispermitted(indicatedby`Yes`)anddress,thatisnotpermitted(indicatedby`No`).Theserulesdonot apply to children under the age of 10.

Golf shoes:Metalspikes,plasticspikesandpimpled soles.

Collared shirts or sweatshirts, collarlessround or V-neck shirts/tops designedspecificallyasgolfwear.

Shirts designed to be worn outside oftrousers/shorts

Sleeveless shirts/tops designedspecificallyasgolfwear.

Shorts: Typically will have 2 side pocketsand up to 2 rear pockets, belt hoops andsomewillhaveturnups.Notpermittedare;multi-colouredbeachshorts,combatshorts(multiplepockets).elasticatedwaistbandsoranytypethatusesastringtotieatthewaist

Persons not complying with these rules will be asked to leave the course and/or clubhouse as appropriate.

These rules also apply to caddies and visitors accompanying golfers.

General InformationRules of GolfMembers should carry an up to date copy of the rules of golf. Copies are available from the Club shop.The rules of Golf ensure fair play for everybody and should be strictlyapplied. If in doubt, seek advice from the golf professional or any member of his team.

PriorityPlayers on the 10th & 11th tees have priority over players on the 1st and9thteesrespectively.Players on the 4th tee have priority over players on the 6th tee.

Distance markersMarkerpoststotheedgeofthefairwayindicate250yards(white/bluetop)and150yards(whites/redtop)bothdistancestothecentreof the green.

Dress CodeWehavearefreshingandrelaxedattitudetowardsdressatOverstonePark Golf Club but it remains the responsibility of every member to maintainastandardsofdressthatreflectstheimageoftheclub.Golfers must wear the correct golf shoes on the course. Non-players onthecoursemustwearflatshoes.Jeanswillnotbepermittedunderanycircumstances.PleaseseethenoticeboardforfulldetailsofdresscodeforOverstone Park Golf Club.

LockersLockers, both large and small, can be rented on an annual basis. Full detailsareavailablefromreception.Inaddition,smalllockersifavailable,maybeusedonaday-to-daybasis for a nominal fee. Keys can be obtained from the professional shop.

Members Insurance SchemeAll members are insured for personal liability, accidental damage, personal accident and a hole-in-one liability.Fulldetailsofthepolicyaredisplayedonthenoticeboard.

Overstone Park Golf ClubLocal Rules

1. Out of Bounds (Rule27-1applies) • Beyond any line of white posts • Beyond any boundary hedging or fencing • Adjacent to the 2nd hole – the road and car parking areas and beyond

2. Hazards(Rule26applies) • Yellow posts – water hazard • Red posts – Lateral water hazard

3. Ground under repair (Rule25-1applies) • Area circled by white lines or marked with appropriate GUR signs. If a ball lies within the area or the area interferes with stance or intended line of swing, play is prohibited – the ball MUST be dropped without penalty in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 25-1b

4. Landscaped areas/ new plantations(Rule25-1applies) • Green posts – if a ball lands within a green staked area or the area interferes with stance or intended line of swing, play is prohibited – theballMUSTbeliftedanddroppedwithoutpenaltyinaccordance with the procedure prescribed in rule 25-1b

5. Preservation of young trees(Rule25-1applies) • Ifatreeisstakedorhasprotectivepipingorstandswithinatree circle(singletreeandcircleonly)interfereswithstanceorintended lineofswing,playisprohibited–theballMUSTbeliftedand dropped without penalty in accordance with the procedure prescribed in rule 25-1b. Relief must also be taken it the tree circle itself interferes with stance or intended line of swing.

6. Environmentally sensitive area • Theareadefinedbytheredpostswithgreentopstotheleftofthe12th and13thholeshasbeendefinedasanEnvironmentallySensitiveArea. • Entry to or playing a ball within this area is prohibited. Players must take a compulsory penalty drop in accordance with procedure prescribed in rule 26-1. If the ball lies outside the area but the area interferes with stance or intended line of swing the player must take relief without penalty within one club length of the nearest point of relief on the course not nearer the hole that avoids the interference.

7. Obstructions(Rule24applies) • Stonesinbunkersaremoveableobstructions • Paths and all course furniture – waste bins, distance markers, sand boxesetc.areimmoveableobstructions • Temporaryholesonputtinggreensareimmoveableobstructions.

8. 17th Hole.(Rule26applies)a. If a ball fails to cross the water a player may under penalty of one shot either: - • Proceed under rule 26.1 or • Dropandplaysecondballfromthedropzonetotheleftofthe ladies teeb. Additionally,forthepurposeofavoidingslowplay,ifthereisdoubt whether a ball is in the water hazard, a provisional ball may be played underanyoftheapplicableoptionsin(a)above.Iftheplayersfindshis originalballoutsidethewaterhazardtheplayermustcontinuewithit.If the original ball is found in the water hazard - as prescribed under rule 26.1 - the original ball may be played as it lies or the provisional ball may be used. If the original ball is not found within 5 minutes the provisional ball becomes the ball in play.

9. Distance measuring devices • Forallplayonthiscourseaplayermayobtaininformationbyusing adevicethatmeasuresdistanceonly.Ifduringastipulatedround,a players uses a measuring device that is designed to measure other conditionsthatmightaffecthisplay(e.g.gradient,windspeed, temperatureetc)theplayerisinbreachofrules14-3forwhichthe penaltyisdisqualification,regardlessofwhetheranysuchadditional functionisactuallyused.

10. Caddiesa. Caddiesareallowedonthecourseincompetitionssubjecttothe followingconditions • The caddy signs into the pro-shop before the commencement of the round declaring him/herself as a caddy. • Must adhere to the proper dress code • MustadheretotheRulesofGolfasitaffectscaddies • Mustadheretotherulesofetiquetteofgolf • Mustnotengageinanygameofgolfwhilstactingasacaddy

Penalty for not adhering to this rule is disqualification

11. Other Informationa. Distance markers – marker post or disc on edge of fairway indicate distances to the centre of the green • Red top 150 yards. • Blue top 250 yards.

b. Course Marshall TheinstructionsofthecourseMarshall(includinginstructionson etiquette)mustbefollowedatalltimes.Playersrefusingtofollow instructionsoftheMarshallmaybetoldtoleavethecourse.

c. Tee priority • Priority must be given to players on the 10th and 11th tees • Players on the 4th tee must give priority to players on the 6th tee

d. Etiquette 1. If there is a clear hole between your match and the group in front, the game behind should be allowed to play through. 2. Please observe dress code posted outside the pro-shop. 3. Please replace divots, repair pitch marks and rake bunkers. 4. Allow players in front to move out of range before playing your shot. 5. Please do not take trolleys or buggies closer to the greens than the lines marked in the front of each green, or onto edges of greens. Please use paths where provided.

12. Rules 18-2, 18.3, and 20.1 are modified as follows: - • Whenaplayer’sballliesontheputtinggreen,thereisnopenaltyifthe ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, or any of their caddies or equipment. • The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced as provided in rules 18-2.18-3 and20-1. • This local rule only applies when the player’s ball or ball-marker lies on theputtinggreenandanymovementisaccidental.

NOTEIfitisdeterminedthataplayer’sballontheputtinggreenwasmovedbecauseofwind,waterorsomeothernaturalcausesuchastheeffectsofgravity,the ball MUSTbeplayedasitliesfromitsnewlocation.Aball-markermovedinsuch circumstances is replaced.

Accidential DamageCoveruptoamaximumof£2,500inrespectofaccidentallossofordamagetothirdpartypropertyarisingwhilstyouareparticipatinginanyactivityatagolfcourseanywhereintheworldirrespectiveoflegalliability.Excludesdamagecausedbybuggieswhichiscoveredby a separate insurance.

Personal AccidentCoveruptoamaximum£10,000forDeath,lossoflimbsorsight,permanent total disablement, provided that: 1 Death or personal disability is solely and directly caused by an accidentarisingoutofactivitiesatOverstoneParkGolfCluband 2 Death or physical disability occurs within 24 months of the accident

Hole in OneAbenefitof£75intheeventofaHoleinOnebeingachievedinaqualifyingmedalorStablefordcompetition.This cover applies to all members and their guests provided they havepaidagreenfeetotheshopsowerespectfullyaskallmemberstoreport,anydamagetheycause,toamemberofstaffpromptly.
