2018 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN | DELRAY BEACH
COMMUNITY MEETING
Meeting Date: March 15, 2017
Old School Square Field House
Historic preservation is a conversation with our past about our future.
It provides us with opportunities to ask:
"What is important in our history?"
"What parts of our past can we preserve for the future?"
Historic preservation is an important way for us to transmit
our understanding of the past to future generations.
Our nation's history has many facets, and
historic preservation helps tell these stories.
Sometimes historic preservation involves celebrating events, people,
places, and ideas that we are proud of; other times it involves
recognizing moments in our history that can be painful or
uncomfortable to remember.

expected to look in the future. The City of Delray Beach
Comprehensive Plan addresses how we:
• Maintain our community – the built and natural environment
• Provide services such as transportation, housing, public safety
and utilities
• Grow – that impacts are managed on a local and regional level
Currently, the City of Delray Beach does not have a
Historic Preservation Element in its Comprehensive Plan.
Comprehensive Plan
A Historic Preservation Element can:
• Protect our current historic and cultural resources
• Provide guidance in the identification of new
resources
• Implement strategies to maintain an inventory of
our resources
• Tell the story of our community
