Letter

Kevin FowlerBoard President

Payne County came together for another successful United Way campaign, raising over $925,000 before the end of 2017.

That support has had an enormous impact and has been reinvested in the community, helping individuals and families achieve their full potential.

Your donations helped feed over 2,000 families. It helped over 500 children receive school supplies. It helped 431 residents visit a doctor when they would not have been able to afford it.

YOU are what makes United Way a driving force in our community. YOU are what makes our community UNITED.

Thank you for joining the fight against poverty, hunger, illiteracy and the problems our community faces by your generous donations, coordinating campaign events at your workplace, volunteering your time and advocating for a brighter future

UNITED we fight, UNITED we win.

Allocations

Approximately 13 UWPC board members spend more than 400

hours reviewing agency budgets, audits, financial reports, program outcomes, performance histories

and presentations. The allocations and accreditation committees

meet to discuss recommendations for each

United Way agency and determine that year’s goal.

UWPC board reviews the recommendations and

determines any changes.

UWPC and the community raise funds to be distributed to the

agencies in the upcoming year.

Beginning January of each year funds are distributed among

the partner agencies on a monthly basis.

United Way of Payne County (UWPC) ensures your contributions reach those in need through a

dedicated team and extensive review process. We are committed to responsible stewardship and

diligence in keeping our combined administrative and fundraising costs below the norm for

nonprofit organizations and other United Ways in country. UWPC is transparent and accountable

with your donations and ensures all donations impact the community where they are needed most.

UWPC established the Bennett Basore Award in 2002 to honor the late Bennett Basore. Basore was a former

board member whose leadership in establishing the local United Way accreditation procedure ensures

accountability to donors, proper utilization of funds and compliance with state, federal and United Way

regulations. Basore created the accreditation process which is used by United Ways nationwide.

The Mission of Hope was recognized as the 2017 Bennett Basore award winner for their outstanding work in the community. They received a plaque, stipend and will be featured in this year’s campaign video. The Mission of Hope is the only homeless shelter in Payne County, and the surrounding counties.

“The Mission of Hope is at capacity the majority of the year,” said Sheri Carter, UWPC director. “They provided more than 360 individuals with shelter last year.” The clients at the Mission of Hope are required to complete programs to educate them on better financial and life practices, and be actively seeking a job. The Mission also operates an emergency shelter when temperatures are extreme, which allows any person seeking shelter to stay. If you would like to learn more or to get involved, contact the Mission of Hope at 405-332-5521.
