What is a business processA collection of related events, activities and decisions, that involve a number of actors and resources, and that collectively lead to an outcome that is of value to an organization or its customers.

In the 80’s, Ford found inefficiencies in its “procurement process”:- The Accounts Payable office employed more than 500 people;- The Turnaround time for processing PO (purchasing order) and invoice was

very long (several weeks);- The Error rate was very high.

They wanted to make it cheaper, faster, better.

Possible solution: AUTOMATION ----à 20% IMPROVEMENT

But Ford decided not to do it….
