The Sunshine Street Team is a dynamic program of volunteers trained to introduce and direct visitors to the city’s many entertainment,

dining, cultural and retail assets.

The goal is to create enhanced visitor experiences that result in longer stays, increased revenues and

positive public relations for our city and its establishments.

The program is designed to ensure that visitors and locals have the best experience possible when enjoying downtown St. Petersburg.

WHAT IS THE SUNSHINE STREET TEAM?

Trained volunteers deploy on foot on weekend days during peak season (early November thru mid-May) in core downtown areas, along Beach Drive, in the waterfront parks, along Central Avenue and beyond.

They seek out people in need of assistance with things like:

Directions to restaurants, shops, museums

Help with parking meters & garages

Information about downtown activities

Assistance navigating the downtown

Picture-taking!

Volunteers also have helped people reconnect with lost wallets, made change for meters and much, much more. They visit local establishments and share valuable information about those who frequent downtown.

Sunshine Street Team Volunteers

The Who, Where, What, Why?Volunteers report on who they encountered, where they were from, why they came and what they were looking for. In the 2016-17 season, 622 encounters were reported, with people from around the world. The information gathered from these encounters helps us to understand and improve the downtown experience.

Volunteers get to meet interesting people, learn more about our downtown, and enjoy a little exercise! Two-hour shifts are just the right amount of walking (or riding the Looper Trolley), and volunteers choose as few or as many shifts as their schedules allow. Several establishments offer volunteers a place to rest and cool off during their shifts.

Business Association of St. Petersburg and operates

with a part-time paid Executive Director and a

volunteer Advisory Board.
